A day later…
"TOORU SENSEI!"
Maki had to know.
She found Yua wondering about outside once more, getting fresh air. Yet the moment their eyes met, she knew that Yua knew something was on her mind. She said not a word but nodded to her. Maki came to her side as they walked but kept silent. She waited until they were out of high density areas of the village before she dared to speak.
"Tooru sensei…"
"Yua, I wasn't really a teacher to you, Yua is just fine," she said.
Maki sighed. "Yua… I've been bothered by something… what you told me a while ago… how when you returned, you altered the course of various things. I mean… I know deep down that they happened, I KNOW they happened, and yet, it still feels like a bad dream to me… but…"
"You are questioning what's really happened and what has yet to or should have, right?"
Maki froze.
"How…"
"Trust me, when I was dead I had a LOT to think about. My soul didn't rest since it was still needed, Itadori's grandfather of all people made certain that I was there to help Yuuji when he first obtained Ryujin…" she explained. "But I know what you want to ask, the problem is I can't answer it."
"Can't or won't?" Maki asked in a slightly venomous tone.
"Can't," Yua said honestly. "In truth, what happened, not even I fully understand. That was Ryujin's call to do… at the same time, he hid the history of my family that I shared with Sukuna… why he did that? I don't know. At the same time, I need to respect his choice on the matter. Ryujin had just enough power to turn back time to favor us. Which meant rewriting what has happened and letting it occur later."
She fell silent.
"What if some of us were suppose to have died in the pervious past? Does that mean we are still to do so in this time?" she asked seriously.
Yua sighed once more. "I don't know," she said gently. "I can't explain it. Since I was suppose to be dead myself. I was at peace knowing that the moment Ryujin left me, I would decay and die slowly… My death was certain." She explained. "And yet, I stand before you, carrying my second child… how do you think I feel about this?" she asked.
Maki, never considered the notion. She always assumed Yua knew what she was doing, understood what she was capable of and yet, stands before her unable to answer what is asked. "I'm sorry…"
"Don't be. Had I been in your position, I would want to know too. But also how painful for you too, to lose your sister twice, remembering both times, but they were both nearly identical."
Maki… paused oddly. "How do you…"
"With Ryujin, I was able to see what had happened before hand, I saw it all. Gojo only told me about what happened to Mai after a while, since I knew you were a twin and wondered if perhaps she was able to slip through the time alteration and be spared. Some are, but not everyone."
She could only nod her head at this point. "Thank you, for being honest with me,"
Yua nodded. "Lying doesn't favor anyone, not even the one speaking it."
Maki then smirked oddly. "Did you know, that the Zen'in clan has records of your family?"
This took Yua by surprise.
"Really?"
"Mainly it was a playbook. They wrote down and drew out the Tooru women they tried to make their wives. Funny thing is, they all failed!" she snickered.
"My family were no push overs. Especially the women. That happened more often than you think and it wasn't just the Zen'ins either… Gojo… I didn't realize at the time, when my family was killed, he archived everything in my old house. I found it recently and learned that his family was the last to make contact with my clan. There were other letters of introduction from the Kamo and the Zen'in clan as well. Believe it or not, your clan was offering Naoya as a suitor to me!"
"EW!" she shouted.
"Well, according to what my mother wrote, that was her reaction too. The Kamo had asked to reserve a meeting should a proper heir be born… Toshi is a little too young for me." She joked.
Maki smirked to that.
"Do you find it odd that you ended up with Sensei?" she asked.
Yua paused oddly. "As a matter of fact, yes," she said in a serious tone. "In fact, this felt like it was the most farthest possibility of such an event happening!"
"Then, why did you?"
Yua smiled. "Sometimes, what you feel isn't right, doesn't mean it wasn't suppose to happen. Satoru, despite how he is… he's protective of me. He hasn't waivered in being at my side nor looked at another woman, but it does feel strange, perhaps this was one of the events that altered from Ryujin. Had I not died, I don't know who I would have ended up with."
"If you had the chance… who would you have wanted to be with?"
Yua shrugged. "Honestly, I am very content with Gojo, the man child. But I wonder, had Suguru not fallen on the path that he did…"
"Geto?! Really? You and him?" Maki asked and snickered.
Yua did as well. "I know, strange isn't it?"
They paused once more as Maki sighed. "I do feel better speaking to you about this, I just hope that… whatever may come, we are ready and we don't lose anyone else."
"I agree, the elders won't let us live in peace, at the same time… I do wonder what will happen if they knew Sukuna was alive and well?"
"Shit their pants?"
"It's in the cards, I do hope for that to be honest with you, those old hag should be sitting in shit for all that they have done!" Yua decreed. "Honestly, it would be one of the few times I would let Sukuna go back to his dark ways. Just as long as he channels that anger at them and not on innocent lives."
Maki was stunned, however, she nodded in understanding.
"To think… he was raised by your family and nearly became part of it…" she said offhandedly.
Yua was oddly silent on the matter.
"Sorry…"
"No, I'm just as surprised as you are. But, I keep getting messages from my ancestors… don't ask," she said. "Mother Tooru is telling me to help him, since he will in return help me. He has, twice. Think about it, if he wasn't there… I don't think Shin would have survived. The new abilities I have, that was because of him too, he knew things about the clan that I had NO idea about. And yet…"
"It's not enough is it?"
"It's not just that. But, how did he fall in love with my ancestor?" she asked. "We don't know the FULL story of him, Lady Tiamat said that what we saw was a very watered down version of what really happened. Which means… something far more serious has occurred in his past that none of us, not even Sukuna is fully aware of."
"Is that why you are helping him as much as you can?"
She nodded.
"I can guide him, but I cannot be the one to make sense of it. That's on him. Despite everything… I do believe he is trying."
Maki sighed to the fact. "I hate to admit it, but he has a LOT to make up for. Mainly to Itadori… Yuuji."
"Speaking of Itadori…"
Maki smirked. "Well, it was a few days but I know Yuko went into labor…" Her phone went off. Maki checked and smiled. "Looks like he had twins as well. See…"
It was a photo of him, Yuko and the twins passed out at the hospital. Dr. Shoko must have taken the picture of them together. "Great, if I don't follow the tread I am out of it!" Yua snickered.
"Do you think you are having twins? Aren't they a curse to sorcerers?" she asked.
"Not in my family apparently." Yua explained that Sukuna told her that there was no family technique among the Toorus, twins had their own curse energy and technique. It wasn't shared between them. "It's strange considering all other clans have difficulties… at the same time, despite it, some great sorcerers can come from twins, like you."
Maki… froze oddly.
"What do you mean…"
"You are a fantastic sorcerer, and I acknowledge you as such. Since I had many family members like you as well. I can understand and appreciate what they go through to get to where they are. You are remarkable, Maki."
It was odd.
She even dared to think that a tear escaped from her eye after hearing Yua say something like that.
"Thanks…" she said offhandedly.
Yua merely smiled to her. "So… tell me about Yuuta."
She froze, how did…
Maki peered at Yua who smiled warmly. "I know who he is, Gojo speaks of him all the time, since after all, they are distant blood relations between them. As such, I think I need to ensure that his side of the family is looked after as well, right? So, tell me about him if you don't mind."
Her face felt warm, she didn't want to tell her… let alone ask… but…
"Tanso already told me about him too, from what he learned from you."
"That blabber mouth!"
Yua snickered to her outburst, granted, Tanso doesn't talk the least bit!
"Relax, he wanted to know what to do if he found him. I asked Tanso if he could let me know and keep an eye on Yuuta. We will do the same thing with Toshi and bring him here, no question." She said gently. "Don't be afraid to ask for help either, Maki. You are a very strong women, but strong women also need help from time to time. Trust me, I know."
She forced a smile. "Thank you Yua."
"Now, tell me about him, he sounds cute…"
