To celebrate my story's milestones, this will be a collection of special One-shot duels! Most recent Special: Mayoi Miyabino from Yugioh Arc-VRAINS vs Hotaru from Yugioh Arc-VOC in a mirror match of the HorReaper archetype

12. Mayoi vs Hotaru

POV Mayoi

„Where am I? I thought Valia said that I wouldn't remember the duel against the Monarch, HAT and Kaiju user? Or the against Morningstar, Mammon and Thunder Hunter. Or that one against Leiko, Curran and Nazo. Wait, for the one against Morningstar, Mammon and Thunder Hunter, she wasn't even present. But I remember my mother mentioning something about dueling against members of Hope's Peak Academy. And against some people named Yasuhiro Kirifufa, Shota Hanamura and Ibuki Ichiyanagi and-", I mutter to myself.

„Let's be honest here, you mentioning as many contestants from previous specials isn't really gonna interest anyone.", Hotaru says.

„And also the Dragons mentioned Nico Bessho, who was dragged- wait, why do I even know your name? And why are we breaking the fourth wall?", I ask and the first bit about Nico is definetly out of spite.

„And even then, you neglected to mention that your mommy fought alongside Roget, you fought alongside Chihiro, and then you fought alongside Eline Kinnie. And it's not like you know my last name.", Hotaru argues, going against his own point from literally the only other sentence he has said so far in this special.

„So, you last name is? And you didn't answer about the fourth wall breaking.", I ask.

„Because ThePLOThand is garbage at coming up with scenarios for these one-shots, he thought he might as well be open about the fact that this is an excuse for an outside the norm dueling scenario and he just wanted to have fun with the fourth-wall breaking, like its YGOTAS!"

„So, your HorReapers are going to be renamed into HomelyHarvesters and your chocolate is going to be replaced by some healthy food? Also, you didn't answer about your last name.", I say.

„Well, I guess I should answer that detail before this preamble stretches for longer than the ones where Plotty bothered coming up with an excuse. First Question: No on both accounts, though I'm out of chololate anyways, so there's nothing to be replaced with carrots in my pockets anyway.
And my last name would either be Reid, like Elliots, or one of the following randomized japanese/british surnames: Wakaizumi, Katabuchi, Houghton or- seriously, he got Elliott as a random result? Oh, but the page on fantasynamegenerator dot com that Plotty used to come up with these also lists Griffiths, which fits better."

„Uhm, are you really sure?", I ask.

„I doubt Berserk readers are gonna see this. And I certainly won't pick 3-15-24, if you know what I mean.", as we are proofreading this, neither I or ThePLOThand remember the joke behind 3-15-24, they don't add up to something silly like 69,„Leiko would never let me hear the end of it, even if this match isn't canon at all. And ThePLOThand actually had to go to worldometers dot com, because his braincells were only sufficient to figure out which one was the third letter of the alphabet."

Oh right, ThePLOThand should have just read the full sentence, so 3 would be C and... oh... was the other one also on the results of fantasynamegenerator dot com?

„But then should we be worried about being here or not?", I wonder.

„The duels script isn't horseshi- I am the token evil one and LEIKO has the role of foulmouth, should I finish this curse? I mean, I can't be a literal ladykiller here, because your plot armour as a main character extends into non-canon.", Hotaru ruminates, „Even if you do lose terribly as of late."

„You were only missing one letter from the complete swearword.", I sweatdrop, „And maybe we should just start the duel as you were about to suggest with said swearword. The author will come up with better banter once we've begun with this chapter's real purpose."

„You're right, it's time to duel!"

Mayoi (8000lp) vs Hotaru (8000lp)

„Wait, why is Crossover not working? Did he say this wasn't gonna be an Action Duel during the last special?", I wonder.

„Too late, because PlotHand only corrects cringy lines, 5% of spelling errors and PlotHoles he wrote 2 years ago and he only proofreads chapters exactly ones and won't go over prolonged correcting sprees for non-canonical stuff.", Hotaru says, „I start by using Horrible Fusion to fuse MadMade and PirAnchor into BerserKatana. (ATK: 1900) Since Mace died without destruction, he grants BerserKatana the ability to deal piercing damage. I set two cards and end my turn."

Since he summoned an attacker in the first turn, he must be going easy on me. He definetly didn't just make a mistake. Although, If I win this match, holding back would turn out to be a mistake.

„I activate Greater Polymerization, I fuse my own Anchor, Mace and ScareClaw into CrusaDoom. (ATK: 3000) This spell needs 3 materials for its summon, but would grant Doom piercing damage even without Mace as material AND renders him indestructible by battle."

„Obligatory reference to the Scareclaw archetype.", Hotaru says lazily, „I hope ThePLOThand isn't gonna edit references to recently released archetypes like this in every past chapter, while turning them into present tense. Would be weirdly ironic if he did that, wouldn't it?"

I DO wonder a little if the silly joke that Dunkelsieg made actually foreshadowed the next set of Hanoi goon decks. But if it's the AIs facing ScareClaw, Dreadscythe Harvester and Guardian Dreadscythe (Did ThePLOThand even use HorReaper DreadScyhte in any duel?) we might face something different like Gold Pride, Buerillabaisse and Trancendrakes.

„With CrusaDoom, I attack Katana!"

„I absorb the damage into my Horrible Box. To those not reading VOC or Arc-VRAINS, I'll point out the rest of this CONTINOUS TRAPs effect when it matters. But it does have a limit of 3000."

„BeserKatana will still be destroyed! Or, it won't, because CrusaDoom's effect allows me to banish something from the GY to save it and take control of your monster, but I can't attack with it just yet. I banish Anchor, which allows me to draw a card."

„It wouldn't matter anyway, because I use a card from one of the mangas! Cold Fusion! Well, a retconned Version. It destroys BerserKatana and revives its materials on my field. Also, something about Ice Counters, but let's be real: They won't matter in this duel."

„I set two cards and end my turn.", I say, „Wait, our turns have been weirdly similar."

„Guess I better break that pattern before it gets older than even the younglings from Star Wars Episode III-yeah, Leiko definetly has infected my brain. We weren't even THAT fused. Well, but at least it's about cruel slaughter."

„Will you feel better if you think of it as stealing Leikos deal?", I ask, „Like, stealing a trophy from a defeated enemy?"

„Maybe, a litt- hey, the only one that gets to „comfort" me is Haruka! I start my turn by using Magic Planter to sacrifice the horrible box to draw 2 cards, which means the rest of its effect didn't matter! I normal summon my own ScareClaw and banish Horrible Fusion from my GY to fuse all monsters on my field into HorReaper CronuScythe! I banish its three materials to destroy everything on your field, except for the Invincible CrusaDoom of course!
And instead of doing the obvious thing and boosting CronuScythe beyond 2200 ATK, I will use Creature Swap to trade those two monsters. Now I attack and destroy your/my Scythe."

„I sadly cannot steal back my Scythe back since I have no other HorReapers in my GY, so I just set one card and my turn. Now, show me something more than imperfectly symmetrical violence!"

„I use Pot of Desires! I normal summon HorReaper SpecTome and use its power to revive the banished MadMace and use those two monsters to summon HorReaper DestrucTalon! (ATK: 1332)"

„Ah, something with a multiple of the devil's number for its attack. ThePLOThand's additions to my deck can at least be somewhat decent. Although its effect is nothing special."

„Why are you naming my author, but not yours?", I wonder.

„Because yours is writing this one-shot. I have to get on his good sides a litte at least.", Hotaru says.

„I doubt he can be bribed that easily. I proceed with Katastrofusion to banish SpecTome and ScareClaw from my GY to summon WidoWire to DestrucTalons marker."

„Yeah, nope. I use Cthonian Polymer to tribute the stolen CrusaDoom and take your WidoWire.", Hotaru counters, „But I'll make sure to weaken your link monster before we'll have to deal with ugly numbers in this duel. And since you summoned him in ATK mode, you cannot abuse the ability to pierce that MadMace would have granted to DestrucTalon upon being used as material."

„I thought you liked the multiples of 666 thing.", I try to argue, „Think about it while I end my turn."

Yeah, that is a very silly argument and not even that funny.

„See if you get the chance to use another of them. I draw and banish my CronuScythe to weaken DestrucTalon and normal summon HorReaper GravediGloves.", Hotaru says.

„You know, I just now realized that the name is a pun on Gravedigger.", I note.

„Really, did you also realise that Reload is a gun and that Allure of Darkness shows a deck? The description in chapter 54 clearly makes it look like a gravedigger.", Hotaru says sarcastically, „ThePLOThand should really be less lazy with his reading of descriptions. I bet he didn't even make you narrate what our monsters looked like."

„I mean, he did have a brief period in the battle of VRAINS arc, where he was a bit more descriptive with what the monsters did. And it was even during one of my big duels."

„Anyway, his ATK is 1400, since the author forgot to put up a bolded bracket, so I attack your DestrucTalon with Gloves since Wire can't kill in battle. (Mayoi LP: 7200-5800) But Wire can thankfully attack directly. (Mayoi LP: 5800-4200) That was it for my turn."

„I fuse again by banishing Katastrofusion from the GY alongside CrusaDoom and DestrucTalon as material for BerserKatana! I attack your Gloves (Hotaru LP: 8000-7500) and- I'm not gonna banish the MadMace in my GY, since the stolen WidoWire would survive. I set one monster and end my turn."

„I bet that's Morphing Jar. And I think in the you vs Spectre vs Windy, that the author is writing right now, it would help you right now. I wonder which of your losses will be released first."

„You know that's jinxing it.", I argue.

Though for which of the 2 duels?

„And you re-jinxed it. My turn, draw. I attack your face-down Morphing Jar with Stolenwire."

„You were absolutely right. You discard what you drew this turn and we both draw five cards.", I say.

„I bet the inventors of Rush Duels looked at this card and said „why not every turn?", only for Sevens and GO Rush to not feature that many cool combos that require constant drawing.", Hotaru says, „But while in Master Dueling, I can do THIS: I summon a GravediGloves who this time, gets to use his effect and discards my ScareClaw to bring out two tokens. And since it would be unfair if only Leiko had the monster supporting every H-E-A-L boy's archetype, I'll open the circuit to Gehenna! Arrowheadshots confrmed! The summoning requirement are two monsters from our collective archetypes, but I only use HorReapers! I use the tokens, the one that made them and the stolen WidoWire! LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Yavix the Rising Knight! (ATK: 2700 Markers: Every Diagonal) Since I didn't use a monster that's stronger than him, he won't get boosted further, but unlike Leiko I don't need it. I use Instant Fusion (Hotaru LP: 7500-6500) to summon CrimiNail to Yavix' marker. Rising Knight can now summon another Level 4 HorReaper from my main deck. I summon PitchFreak, who now gets to mill one. I mill VooDoll. I banish VooDoll for CrimiNail's effect of dealing 800 points of damage. (Mayoi LP: 4200-3400) Since VooDollwas banished, I add a Fusioning card from my deck to my hand. I add Terrible Fusion, this is specifically for fusing my HorReapers into a Yavix, but with the addition that Yavix can absorb a second monster from your field, or if that's not possible, one from your GY. Hideous deformed souls, become the form that pierces all nightmares! Brings forth all insanities! And weaves all fear in the minds of mortals! Let your screech pierce the heavens and blacken the clear skies as your hellish form descends!
I summon the original Yavix, the Disgraced Nightmare! (ATK: 2700) And I absorb the BerserKatana. Too bad your GY is either emptied or has monsters with GY effects, so I „only" go up to 4600 ATK with Yavix. I set 3 cards and end my turn."

Kind of ironic, that in this spells only appearance, he is not able to use it to absorb two monsters.
The same happened to a Phantom Knights card that Yuya used against Elliot once, that would have allowed him to draw, had he used it on such a monster. And one of Sholt Giro's Mymimic Link monsters once had an effect that would summon a token upon leaving the field.

Wait, even if mentioning trivia about OPFan37 could work as bribery here, I should be using more flatterying facts... um, ThePLOThand thought that the named Yavix was based on Ironman's Jarvis?

„I draw and activate the Field Spell Fusion Recycling Plant. I discard my own PitchFreak to get a normal Polymerization. I normal summon SpecTome and revive the discarded PitchFreak."

„I send the equipped Katana to the GY to negate that.", Hotaru counters.

„I still have other stuff to fuse with. I use Polymerization and use two copies of PhanTorch in my hand to summon my very own Yavix and steal your Link Yavix with with, bringing the ATK to 5400. I attack your Fusion Yavix. (Hotaru LP: 6500-3800) I set one card and at the end of my turn, the Recycling Plant recovers one of my PhanTorches from the GY back to my hand.", I say.

„It's been fun, but I'm gonna have to make this a brief one. I use Horrible Deliverance-"

„I'll halve my Yavix' ATK by detaching your equipped one to negate this one!", I counter.

„Like my first card was irreplaceable. I have anothter path. I set the Pendulum Scale with HorReaper HanDragon Scale 1 and HorReaper Clawolf Scale 7. I pendulum Summon HorReaper SerVial, who banishes Deliverance and CrimiNail to essentially repeat Deliverance's effect to add a banished card of my archetype to my hand. I choose VooDoll, which I normal summon and fuse it with SerVial by its own effect. I summon HorReaper ManiAxe (ATK: 2100) I banish VooDoll from my GY to boost ManiAxe by 200 and to immunize him to your cards. Since VooDoll was banished, I add a Fusion Card to my hand. I choose Dark Fusion, but first, I activate Re-Fusion (Hotaru LP: 3800-3000) and revive-"

„Before you do anything, I use Waboku to prevent all battle damage you plan to deal this turn.", I counter, „And you could have revived this HorReaper before using ManiAxe's effect since it only boosts and immunizes the HorReapers effect currently on the field."

„Well, I just kind of knew that only the effect of VooDoll was going to matter.", Hotaru says nonchalantly, „And you could have waited to use Waboku before I revive my monster as now, I will revive on specialized in dealing effect damage. Come back, CrimiNail. I banish GravediGloves for the 800 salvo. (Mayoi LP: 2800-2000) and then I will use the Dark Fusion, since this can't just be used for Evil Heroes, but also for just about any Fiend and it immunizes the summoned one to targeting!
Not that this one needs it. Deranged eyecrawling wraiths, merge into the creature that gores through all ill omen! Unleash every Abberation! Entwine all terror in our limited cognition! His wails defile paradise and scorch the earth as he arrives! Fusion Summon! Level 12, Yavix the Renegade HorReaper! (ATK: 3800)"

This one doesn't have one eye on each insectoid wings, it had an army of facette eyes on each, they were attached to a pitch-black gigantic armor, the veins on its body are spreading across the body and are painfully knotted, some of them already burst, yeah, in short it is everything the Disgraced NIghtmare is, but a whole of creepier in every aspect

„Yeah, that one is a little creepier.", I gulp, „And I did describe its appearance this time. A litte bit."

„And for needing two dark fusions as opposed to just two darks, he can absorb cards like Trishula the Dragon of the Ice Barrier banishes them! Since he can defeat the regular Yavix just fine, I'll leave him be and take away your Field Spell instead, as well as the Waboku you used against me from your GY. Now, what is in your hand?"

„A PhanTorch.", I say and then take a closer look at its effect, „However, it only negates the effects of the equipped card's type that it sends to the GY. That, but with a little better phrasing. And it only gets boosted from equipped monsters. (ATK: 3800-5100) So it's more of a situational advantage."

„ThePlotHand isn't a competitive guy, so who's to say that he actually is right in this assessment? Also, he already made an absurd amount of upgrades and alternates for DN, so to not give me a repeat this might have been the last chance. And besides, just hit me with 2 good spells, 2 good monster effects or 2 good trap cards and show me how harmful this is. Or something with a good passive, since my backrow is clogged up from my pendulum cards, also, there's still their effects. (Mayoi LP: 2000-1400) And your Yavix gets destroyed. My turn is over. Draw your last pathetic card so that I can end this duel."

„My deck has no pathetic cards, but it does-"

suddenly my duel disk glows and the Action Card platforms reappear.

„I hope this is like in the 1v2v3 with Roget, where the BS is not enough to make you win, but if making an intentionally and obviously fake and cringy friendship speech is the requirement to beat said BS, you're not gonna get that. Would be weird in a 1v1 with no watchers and which is not even canon anyway."

I pick up an Action Card that happens to be on a platform right in front of me.

„I use Zero Penalty to drop Yavix' ATK to zero!", I shout, „Also, it was intended to be obviously faked and has been referenced as such in every Arc-VRAINS chapter that mentioned it."

„I take out the stolen Field Spell to negate it. Are you gonna get a second one?", Hotaru scoffs.

„Yes, it's this one, I use Magical Spring!"

„Oh, Plothand used that in Sudden Adventure in the 3 vs Reiji duel, in which 3 horibble -pun unintended, I'm not Leiko- decks somehow defeated Reiji. One barely improved Lightsworn Structure deck and 2 schoolyard mashup decks to be precise. And I remember what it does, you discard one card for your one singular backrow card, that is Magical Spring itself, while drawing for from my pendulum cards and the Waboku and PhanTorch that became equip spells. Action Fields are somehow never taken into consideration for field counting effects."

„Yes, and it also bars me from destroying your backrow, so the discarded KnighTrap is very dead weight. But I can use Horrible Ill Fusion-"

„I hope ThePlotHand does not forget again, that this card shuffles the summoned thing into the deck during the End Phase."

„No, he didn't forget the LP cost that Different Dimension Fusion had (Mayoi LP: 1400-700), or that it can shuffle up to five monsters into the deck, which are, CrusaDoom, DestrucTalon, SpecTome, ScareClaw and PirAnchor. And now I summon the monster that you used to circumvent the drawback during its one and only appearance! Come forth, HorReaper SicKing. (ATK: 3500) Even if he forgets, it won't matter, since that is how both of these card debuted in Arc-VOC!"

„Ah, the one you failed to summon against Numen and Dunkelsieg.", Hotaru teases.

„And this time, it will make a difference! I set a card and end my turn. Due to his own effect it cannot leave the field from another one, so the King stays."

„Well, that was Anticlimactic. You also need me to use an effect, so that you can use its effect to negate and destroy my whole field.", Hotaru points out.

„That's what my face-down is for.", I argue.

„But it would be a trap. I still have the PhanTorch and all that would happen is you surviving with 400 Life Points left, since you put him in ATK mode. Oh, you're hoping for a little bit more luck in Action Cards. You might get a damage reversal or something crazier. Then I guess it's time for me to use your Deus ex Machina against you! We both race in opposite directions, with me ordering SicKing to levitate upwards, meaning that it comes down to our own abilities at running basically. But I manage to get one before it hits.

„Oh, uhm, before I forget, Magic Cylinder!"

„Negated by your Waboku!", Hotaru counters.

„I negate your everything by banishing the PitchFreak left in my GY!", I counter.

„Negated by your PhanTorch!", Hotaru counters.

„I still have a ShaMask in my hand to negate the damage!", I say, looking at my copy of Acceleration.

Dammit, usually crazy mindgames like these work better... He briefly thought about what this could mean, but he wasn't the least bit confused.

„In Main Phase 2, I use HorReaper Midnight Fusion. With a completed pendulum scale, this one fuses from the deck! I turn two PirAnchors and one more SerVial into a VirgIron! She banishes both Anchors to deal 500 for each, so that's 1000 points of damage! And no matter how useful your Action Card is, I get two more draws! And also my pendulum gives you another salvo of 600!"

„I activate Acceleration! I block VirgIron! (Mayoi LP: 700-100) If you used- oh, you couldn't use Midnight Fusion in Main Phase 1, since your backrow is full."

„Now, how do I go for silly or style points? I could use Mass Driver or steal ScareClaw with the IRL version of Lullaby of Obedience, which doom do you choose? Because I use my Action Card, Crush Action, to destroy all other Action Cards you might gather this turn."

„Show off. You really could've used that one earlier.", I pout.

„Mass Driver, but with my weaker monster as tribute it is. (Mayoi LP: 100-400=0) So even if you hadn't done your mindgame, I could have just tributed my Renegade HorReaper to finish you off."

Winner: Hotaru

„Let's hope the semi mirror match with Cross-VRAINS' version of Earth goes better for us.", I mutter, „which is the one with a male Ibuki Ichiyanagi"

„But Anzel will definetly defeat Zwijo, Manabu Sogetsu and Rovian Kirishima.", Hotaru says, „I wonder if GO Rush has dub names by that point."

„But he has two characters from PlotHand as allies.", I note.

„But Elliot is definetly going to overthrow you, the Yu-boys and Yusaku!", Hotaru counters.

„Yukimoto Kabuto, Malik, Q, Muiko and Omega will need it.", I say.

„They aren't OPFan37's or Plot's OCs, so I don't care for their powerlevel.", Hotaru says, „however, Yoruno and Ruri are going to defeat your mother and Yuto."

„They aren't OPFan37s OCs either!", I call him out.

„Anyway, too bad there won't be a mirror rematch. At least at the rate that ThePLOThand is putting our chapters now. Copying Togashis writing speed won't make his story as good as Hunter x Hunter. Or maybe he is just missing the back pain. But enough corniness. Farewell, let's see who's better next time. And make sure to maybe add each chapter of the Darkus Duelist and the other stories into the waybackmachine, so that he won't need to cancel the finale."

„Yeah, farewell. For now.", I say.
