Cheyanne Talor, 17

District 3 Female

Chey awoke to the sound of rumbling. The stones beneath them were shaking, and the air felt warm. Her vision felt hazy. Sleepily, she sat up and looked around. Black smoke was spewing into the air high above them, and her eyes widened. Chey reached out, grabbing Gigi to shake her awake.

"Something is happening," she cried. Gigi took one look at the smoky sky and grabbed her bag.

"Eruption," she said. "We need to go."

Fear pulsed in Chey's throat as she grabbed her backpack and her spear and followed Gigi down the steep mountainside. There was no path, so they had to scramble to find the most secure route down. With the mountainside shaking, it was even more difficult. She fell a few feet, scraping her hands on the volcanic rock as she tried to catch herself. She felt Gigi's hand on her back to stabilize her, and shot her ally a grateful smile.

The shaking intensified and Gigi suddenly cried out. Chey whipped around to see the rocks crumbling beneath her friend. She lunged forward to grab her, but it just loosened the rocks further, and the ground beneath Gigi gave out. She screamed as she fell, and a scream wrenched itself from Chey's throat as well. All she could do was watch in horror as Gigi's body smashed against the stones. Her cannon fired.

Chey didn't even have time to mourn. She had to keep moving if she was going to escape the eruption. She began the frantic scramble again, ignoring the scrape of the stone and the burning pain in her bloodied hands. She had to get to the jungle.

Kjole Schmeichel, 16

District 8 Female

A loud thump woke Kjole from her sleep. She rolled over and sat up, blinking blearily, only to see a huge red-hot rock lying a few yards away from the entrance to their cave. She could practically feel the heat radiating off of it. Gasping, she grabbed her sword and crawled out of the cave. There were large rocks littering the beach, and as she watched, another came crashing down, spraying sand everywhere.

"Taroh!" she called, then screamed as a rock hit the mountainside above the cave.

Leaping backwards, Kjole narrowly avoided being crushed by a volcanic rock. But it was blocking the entrance to the cave, and Taroh was still inside!

"Taroh!" Kjole shouted again, scrambling forward on her hands and knees. She placed a palm on the rock and then hissed in pain as it burned her hand.

"Kjole? Taroh cried. "What's happening?"

"Hold on," Kjole said. "Don't panic. We'll get you out of there."

She began to frantically dig in the sand, hoping to create a small hole for Taroh to crawl through. Soon he began to join in, scraping and clawing at the sand. But the rock shifted dangerously and Kjole gasped. She heard Taroh let out a sob.

"It's not going to work," he said.

"No! Don't think like that," Kjole scolded. Then the ground began to shake and she looked up. More rocks were tumbling down the mountain, and she could see glowing red lava beginning to spill out of the top of the mountain.

She began to dig more frantically, but Taroh stuck his hand through the hole they'd make and grabbed her hand.

"Go," he said, giving her hand a squeeze. "Win."

Tears trickled down Kjole's cheeks as she returned the squeeze.

"I will." Then she grabbed her sword and ran.

Soleil Kingston, 17

District 11 Female

Soleil had spent the last few days curled up beneath the fruit tree. Somehow, the Gamemakers had left her alone; alone with her thoughts. It was arguably worse than facing the Careers, or some sort of jungle mutt. She was able to just lie there and think about how she'd completely abandoned her allies. And now all of them, except for Porsche, were dead.

It was easy to conclude that they died taking out the Careers, and that made Soleil feel worse. They were brave until the very end, and she was a coward who let her friend die. Who let her dad die. Why did she deserve to go home?

She was disturbed from her thoughts by a rumbling beneath her. At first she thought it was an earthquake, an event she'd heard about in school. But then little flakes began to fill the air and a sense of dread washed over her. This was much worse. And sure enough, as she climbed the fruit tree to get a better view, there was black smoke billowing from the top of the mountain. The volcano was erupting.

Soleil half-climbed, half-fell from the tree before grabbing her spear and running for the beach. Surely the water would be safe, right? She hurtled over a fallen log, and had the beach in her sight when someone slammed into her from the side.

Soleil crashed to the ground, barely managing to avoid impaling herself on her spear. Looking up, she saw Porsche standing over her, holding a quarterstaff.

"Porsche!" Soleil gasped "Wait! We can talk!"

But she had no idea what to say. What could she say? She left Porsche and Omar to die. Tears welled in her eyes and she brushed them away furiously.

"Just do it," she whispered.

"What?" Porsche asked, confused

"Just do it!" Soleil shouted. "I don't deserve to live."

"Soleil-" Porsche began, but then she stiffened as an arrow appeared in the side of her neck. Her body slumped to the ground and her cannon fired. Soleil tried to scramble to her feet, but a heavy foot was placed on her chest. Nailah stood over her with a sad look on her face. Then she drove an arrow into her chest.

Oberon Murdoch, 17

District 9 Male

The ground was shaking so badly that ripe fruits were beginning to fall from the trees around Oberon. He clutched his new knife tightly, desperately trying to plan. He'd received a sponsor gift last night, shortly before the anthem, consisting of several ready-made meals, a metal bottle of fresh water, and a good-sized hunting knife. It made him think the Games would be continuing on for a while. But now he wasn't so sure. Something was happening.

Suddenly, to his surprise, a girl came crashing out of the undergrowth. Her face was red and she was panting hard. He recognized her as Cheyanne, the girl from 3. She looked back over her shoulder, as if something was following her, and then kept running. Once she was gone, Oberon glanced in the same direction. And suddenly, the ashy air and shaking ground all made sense.

Thick smoke was coming from the top of the mountain, which was clearly a volcano. As he watched, a spurt of lava blew from the top, shooting into the air and then beginning to trickle down the mountainside. Collecting his things, Oberon ran after Cheyanne.

He arrived at the edge of the jungle just in time to see a fight break out. Kjole was fighting Nailah, sword against spear, while Mazie and Cheyanne wrestled in the sand. Oberon carefully set his supplies down and unsheathed his knife. It was time.

He watched Cheyanne wrap her hands around Mazie's neck and ran forward. He grabbed her hair and slit her throat before Cheyanne had time to react. Her body slumped onto Mazie, who appeared to be unconscious. Someone screamed, and Oberon turned to see Kjole pull her sword out of Nailah's chest.

Kjole turned to face Oberon, breathing hard. She had a large gash in her upper right arm, and was holding her sword in her other hand. Her grip was awkward, and Oberon figured it was her off hand. Hopefully that would make the fight easier. Because Kjole would be a difficult opponent.

She lunged first, slashing her sword at Oberon's face. He stepped back, but nearly tripped over Mazie's unconscious body. An urge to protect his district partner came over him and he moved towards Kjole, stabbing her in the shoulder. He felt his blade push through muscle and strike bone, making Kjole whimper in pain.

She brought her sword up and slashed across his face, cutting into his eye. Oberon cried out, feeling the blood drip down his face. It stung horribly, and he felt dizzy. But Kjole seemed just as out of it. Gritting his teeth, Oberon jumped forward and stabbed Kjole again, this time in the chest. He twisted the knife in as deep as he could before shoving her back. Her body collapsed onto the sand and her cannon fired.

Holding a hand over his eye, Oberon turned back to Mazie. She was still out. He staggered over to Nailah's body and picked up her spear. Then he went to stand beside Mazie.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. "But I have to get home to Regan." And he thrust his spear downwards.

Panem, I give you the victor of the 55th Hunger Games: Oberon Murdoch!

Hey everyone! Here it is! The Chaos Reigns finale. Congratulations to our victor, Oberon. He wasn't my original victor, but I made a last-minute change and I don't regret it! I'm sorry to Anthony; you were awesome and I did want you to win. But in the end, Oberon stood out more.

EULOGIES

9th: Ingrid "Gigi" Sampson (fell to her death)
I really liked writing Gigi and I wish I could have featured her more. But I just wasn't able to turn this into a fully flesh out SYOT (and, yes I know I sound like a broken record saying this). Gigi was also on my victor list, but I knew she had success in other stories and I wanted to give someone else a chance. RIP.

8th: Taroh Akagi (burned alive by lava)
Taroh was such a sweetheart, and it pained me to kill him. He, like Mazie, didn't deserve the Games, but he was brave and made the best out of a horrible situation. He and Kjole were a great duo, and he will be missed. RIP.

7th: Porsche Romeo (killed by Nailah)
PORSCHE! AAAAHHH! I was absolutely obsessed with you, and you were definitely the hardest to kill. I cycled through so many death ideas for you, and unfortunately, this one feels a little lackluster. Originally, you were burned alive in an effort to save Soleil. Alas, this is what I went with. I'm sorry. RIP.

6th: Soleil Kingston (killed by Nailah)
Soleil was an interesting tribute for me. I liked her a lot, but lost momentum with her over time. I feel like I finally got back into her head in her final POV, but it was too late. She was originally a bloodbath though, so she did good. She'll be missed. RIP.

5th: Cheyanne Talor (killed by Oberon)
Cheyanne never stood out to me the way the other tributes did, but she was really easy for me to write. Sounds counterintuitive, but still, that's how it was. So I kept her around, and I'm glad I did. She had to go though, and she will be missed. RIP.

4th: Nailah Nebit (killed by Kjole)
Nailah was a very interesting Career and I knew I wanted to keep her around until the finale. She was understanding and kind in a way the others weren't, and like I said in Dionysus's eulogy, I wish I could have shown their friendship more. RIP.

3rd: Kjole Schmeichel (killed by Oberon)
I'll be honest; I ADORED Kjole. I didn't see her as a victor but I knew she'd be a strong contender and would definitely make her mark in the arena. She and Taroh were a blast to write together, and she took out a Career! But in the end, she had to go. RIP.

2nd: Mazie Rye (killed by Oberon)
Mazie was a fun tribute, and I really liked her. She was a victor contender in the beginning, but a few others outshone her. I loved her alliance with Martin, and how she got him in a way others didn't. She was a pure soul who didn't deserve the Hunger Games. RIP.

Victor: Oberon Murdoch
I struggled a bit with Oberon at first, but he really grew on me. I loved his relationship with his sister, and I felt like I could explore his backstory in a very interesting way as a victor. And I also loved the idea of District 9 having back-to-back victors (check out Hopeless, my victor exchange with AmericanPi). Congratulations to Sparky She-Demon!

Have a nice day, be kind to each other, and never stop reading!
