Chapter 8: New Lives
"Hey, it's Bella here with the last part of my story. In the previous part, Ed wanted to treat me to a drink, and he personally apologized to me for cheating on me, and even said that he didn't deserve me. Then he talked with Jim, and managed to get him to forgive him. It seemed like things were really looking up."
My next doctor's appointment would be my last in the city, as the project was almost done. Dr. Landon said everything was looking good, and that we were going to have a little boy. Jim and I were delighted to know that we'd have a son.
"Can you believe it, Jim?" I asked, as he helped me get off the examination bed.
"No, do you think we could call him Jim Junior?"
I smiled at him, why did every man want to name their son after themselves. As we were leaving, we ran into Ed and Ellie.
"Ed, Ellie, you guys had an appointment today too?" I asked.
Ellie then said,
"Yes, I'm due any day now, so I'm having my appointments more frequently."
"That's nice. We just found out we're gonna have a little boy."
"Congratulations." Ed told us.
Then we went out separate ways.
Before going home, Jim and I went to lunch. I was feeling really hungry, and ordered a double cheeseburger, large fry, and a soda.
"Gee, I never realized how hungry I was."
Jim just smiled, and replied, that I was eating for two. After we finished eating, I felt really full but it wasn't a bad full, more like a comfortable full. At home, Jim and I decided to spend the rest of the evening together.
We cuddled on the couch and watched a movie. When the baby started kicking, I put Jim's hand on my belly so he could feel.
"He's so strong." he breathed.
"I know. He'll probably be like his dad."
I then told him, that the doula said that the baby could hear him. Then Jim did the most adorable thing. He began whispering and baby talking to my belly. It was so cute and sweet.
The next day at work, we finally finished the project. To celebrate Ed gathered everyone in a break room, where a small party was set up. There was music, cake, pizza, and soda, and even some lights.
Jim got us some drinks, and we mingled among the other workers. As we were having fun, Ed came up to us. He told us he had really, enjoyed working with us, and glad we were together. I told him that working on the project was fun, and I was grateful for what he and Ellie had done for us.
Suddenly, Ed's phone rang. He answered it, suddenly his expression turned into shock. When he hung up, Jim asked,
"What's wrong?"
"It's Ellie, she's going into labor." he told us.
That stunned us, Ellie was having her baby now? Ed quickly told everyone that he had to leave, and left.
At the house, Jim and I were just packing up our things. I was thinking about Ed and Ellie, and hoping things were okay. Jim then came into the room.
"Are you all packed? The flight leaves in the morning."
I told him I was, and that I was looking forward to going home. Just then I got a message on my phone. When I looked at it, I saw that it was a picture of Ed and Ellie. Ellie was in a hospital bed wearing a gown, with Ed beside her.
In her arms was a little baby. Under the picture was a message that read,
"Welcome our new baby girl, Taylor".
So Ed and Ellie had a little girl? How was cute. I showed it to Jim, and he smiled a little. I then told him that before leaving for the airport, we should stop by the hospital and give the house keys back to Ed and Ellie.
Jim agreed to that.
The next morning, on our way to the airport, we stopped at the hospital. A nurse took us to Ellie's hospital room, and we entered to find the three of them cuddling together. They looked happy to see us, and invited us in.
"Hi, we just came to return the keys." I told them.
I handed the keys to Ed, and he took them. I then looked at baby Taylor, who was looking around in Ellie's arm.
"She's beautiful."
"Thank you, it was hard, but worth it." Ellie told us, cuddling the baby.
"I hate to interrupt this, but we have to get going." Jim told.
We said goodbye, wished them luck and congratulations, and left.
Jim and I are back home now, and I'm currently in my last month of pregnancy. And I couldn't wait to see my little boy. We had finished the nursery, bought baby boy clothes, and all the other necessities for him.
Then one night, as Jim and I were sleeping I suddenly left something wet on my bed. It was then I realized that my water had broken, and I quickly shook Jim awake. We drove to the hospital at light speed, and quickly got checked in.
Up in my hospital room, I was pacing around with Jim behind me comforting me. Part of me was really excited that I was finally having my baby, but the other part of me was terrified. I'd never been in so much physical pain, and I was worried what if something went wrong?
As I felt another contraction come on, I breathed through the pain, while squeezing Jim's hand.
Soon I was in a delivery room, having my baby. Through the pain, sweat, and tears, the baby finally arrived. He was the most beautiful baby boy I'd ever seen. When they brought him back from getting cleaned up and checked, I carefully cradled him in my arms.
Jim put his arm around me, and kissed my cheek.
"I'm so proud of you, Bella."
I smiled at him, and replied,
"Thank you."
After a while, my parents came, and we got a call from John who congratulated us. We decided to name our son, Mark. And I knew that this was a new life for me and Jim.
The End
