One day in class, Ashido called out to us "Check check! Check it out!" She stretched her arms out, and began to dance, turning from a leap into break dancing.
"Break it down, break it down!"
"Her hobby is dancing, isn't it?" Murmured Aoyama.
"So Ashido's impressive command over her body comes from dancing?" said Midoriya. "She throws her whole body into every action."
"I shall never forget how she burned my cape in our first training battle," said Aoyama.
"I wonder if I can do ti," continued Midoriya.
"Get her to teach you!" Piped up Kaminari.
"Yeah, boyeee!" Ashido tossed her hands in an odd way. "Let's dance!"
"Uh - um - sure, please show me how!" he stammered. She began to give both him and Aoyama lessons.
"Kinda like Sato with his sweets, right?" Kaminari continued. "It's great when your hobby comes in handy for hero stuff! How cool!"
Me and Yaomomo were together and watching it all. I couldn't help but mentally compare it all to my own hobby, watching Ashido teaching Midoriya how to dance, and everyone being all impressed with how good she was. not like -
"Speaking of hobbies," said Kaminari, suddenly rounding on me, "what about yours, Jirou?"
"Hey! Knock it off!" I told him. Please don't embarass me, dummy.
"Your room was like a musical instrument store," he reminisced. "I'd even say it's way more than just a hobby for you!"
"Sheesh! Let's forget about the whole "King of the rooms" thing!" I felt my face going red as he kept going on and on.
"Nope! Yours is a pro's room, for sure! I mean seriously -"
I sent my headphone flying into his face.
"I said stop!"
"What'd I do?" He asked as I headed to my seat. Leave me alone.
The bell rang, and class began. Sensei inched into the classroom in his sleeping bag and sat up.
"It's school festival time."
"ANOTHER SLE!" Our class jumped up.
"What about visiting Sri today, Sensei?" Asui asked.
"Ah. We'll talk about that later."
"School festival! The best SLE ever! Gotta pick what we're gonna do!"
"For real?" Said Kirishima, standing up. "We're doing this despite what's going on in the world?"
"Kirishima, you've changed!" Said Kaminari.
"Wait, he's right! Even though all these villains are out there rampaging?"
"A prudent viewpoint," said Sensei. "But remember that UA consists of more than just the hero course. The Sports Festival is where the hero course has its chance to shine. So the school festival highlights everyone else. This doesn't get the same level of attention, but it's meant to be a fun event for the rest of the school. Not to mention the new dorm system that started with the hero course is a source of stress for many."
"When you put it like that," said Kirishima. "Yeah, it wouldn't be fair to them."
"This won't be like in the past," said Sensei. "In that the festival will be open only to students, staff, and a small group of outsiders. We aren't competing for the spotlight this time around, but each class will still have an exhibition of some kind. Today you'll be deciding what that is."
Iida and Yaomomo stepped up to the front of the classroom. "I, Tenya Iida, President of Class A, will be leading this discussion. Let's work together to make this process as smooth as possible! First suggestions! Those with ideas, please raise your hands -"
"ME! ME! ME! ME!" Everyone jumped up.
"Guh - what explosive enthusiasm! We must do this in an orderly fashion!" Said Iida.
Kaminari jumped up first. "Kaminari!"
"Let's do a maid cafe!"
Pervy dumbass. Unfortunately, Iida didn't get it.
"Maids, providing a service! Not bad!"
Uraraka jumped up as Asui strung up Mineta to stop his suggestion.
"Uraraka!"
"A mochi stand!"
"Arm wrestling contest," suggested Kirishima.
"Intense!"
"Haunted house!" Said Hagakure.
"Not sure, but that could be interesting!"
"A crepe stall! Said Sato.
"People could eat as they walk around!"
"A dance!" Said Ashido.
"Flashy!"
"Petting zoo," said Koa.
"Petting zoo…"
"A banquet for disciples of darkness," said Tokoyami.
"Ho ho!"
"My very own sparkling show," said Aoyama.
"Huh!?"
"Open mic comedy?" I suggested.
"Not bad. I suggest a Presentation on Hometown History!"
"Deathmatch!" Snarled Bakugou.
"Takoyaki stall," said Shoji.
"Asian Cafe!" Said Hero.
"Martial arts Demo," said Ojiro.
"A study party," suggested Yaoyorozu.
"Hero Quiz show!" Said Midoriya.
"Handmade soba noodle stall?" Todoroki volunteered.
"Frog choir," said Asui.
"I believe everyone's given a suggestion," said Yaomomo at last. "Let's eliminate the unreasonable, unfeasible, or nonspecific ones."
"AH!" Said Aoyama.
"Merciless," said Tokoyami."
"You were never gonna go with mine!" Said Bakugou.
"Get rid of the hometown presentation, too boring!"
"That's for sure."
"That's fine, the other ideas seem fun."
"Yeah."
"Majority rules!" Sighed Iida.
"And we're always having study parties!"
Yaomomo looked away, blushing. "I was only trying to be helpful"
"Couldn't we combine all the food options into one?"
"Soba and crepes don't exactly go together."
"Like I'm saying, crepes just don't mix with Asian food!"
"Better just do the haunted house, then!"
"Silence, silence!" Yelled Iida.
"So much for maintaining order," sighed Yaomomo.
And the bell rang.
"Hoo boy, what a sloppy meeting," said Aizawa. "Better decide by tomorrow morning though. Because otherwise, we're doing a regular class open house."
That evening, Midoriya, Kirishima, Uraraka and Asui were in remedial lessons, while Bakugou stomped off to sleep. Iida was hunched over the computer, "Coming up with nothing.
"Where's the work study gang, and Bakugou?"
"Extra lessons. Since they can't be here to discuss the options, they said we're fine with whatever we pick. Oh, and Bakugo's sleeping."
"Now that I've calmed down and thought about it," said Iida, "Sense mentioned how the other classes are stressed out. Whatever we plan ought to help diffuse that stress in some way."
"I agree," said Yaomomo. "IF we ever hope to become heroes, we can't very well ignore a problem we had a hand in causing."
"On that note, honestly since our fellow students are used to Lunch Rush's culinary creations, I doubt we could satisfy their palates."
"Oh. So no food stalls!?"
"Personally, I like the idea of providing others with a service."
"That makes sense," said Shoji. "We can't be the only ones having fun with this."
"In that case," began Hagakure, and Yaomomo finished her sentence. "Some kind of interactive experience along those lines?"
"Maid cafe, petting zoo, or haunted house?"
"A petting zoo would have to adhere to string hygiene standards, right? So that's no good…."
"How about open mic comedy?" I pushed.
"Putting amateurs on the spot? Sounds stressful."
"We could all just dance, that'd begun," protested Ashido.
"Why not dancing, then?" said Todoroki suddenly.
"Talk about unexpected help!" Said Ashido.
"Can See this?" he asked Iida, getting up and taking his computer. "I'm looking for this one thing, forgot what it's called…" He searched. "People going crazy onstage. Yeah, here it is."
"I didn't expect this from you, Todoroki!"
"When'd you go and turn into a party animal?" Cried Mineta.
"I didn't. I just think Iida is right. We should put together an event that everyone can enjoy. It made me think of our last hero license course assignment."
"What do they have you doing over there?" Cried Sato.
"I see," said Iida.
"Again," said Sero. "We're basically asking amateurs to perform. Won't that be stressful1?"
"I can teach em!" Said Ashido, pointing to Aoyama. "The weirdest amateur here mastered those steps in less than a day! AShido's a bona fide teacher!" Added Kaminari.
"Wait, you bunch amateurs!" Said Mineta. "Dance means rhythm! Rhythm means sound! Club goers always want the frhestest beats!"
"And when it comes to music," said Hagakure. And everyone turned to look at me.
"Uh - what?" I felt myself going red again. No way!
"A live performance with your instruments, Jiro!" Hagakure jumped towards me.
"Hang on a sec -"
"Why not? You're amazing at teaching people how to play, Jiro! And you've always got a smile on your face when it comes to music!"
I looked away. I can't. I can't. I felt myself fiddling around with my headphone jacks. "But, like, Ashido and the rest of you, all your hobbies are somehow rooted in your hero abilities. But mine's seriously just a hobby. It's not really something I can be proud of."
Kaminari came up to me, and got in my face. "So that's what that was earlier? But it's so fricking cool how musical you are!"
I felt myself going even redder, flushing all over as his big, smiling face was inches from mine. Big golden eyes all full of cheerful optimism, all that kind of hope that I never know how to have...
Koda ran up to me too. "Jiro! Your talent can make people smile! That's definitely tied to being a hero in my book."
Yaomomo stepped in front of me. "I understand what the two of you are saying, but we have to let Jiro decide for herself."
I ran my hands through my hair, rubbing the base of my neck, feeling embarassed. But hell...
"Turning down all these requests wouldn't make me much of a rock star," I sighed.
"So Class A's project is a dance club with live music!"
