Living up to Family
A Surprise, A Revelation, and Not So Surprised? – Ch 10
Harry
It had been nearly a week since Harry had filed for acceptance with the MACUSA. He received an Owl just this morning from the magical congress, granting him approval and their support to his relationship. According to his representatives in the congress, path was slowly being set for the wizarding world to be revealed. It wont be anytime soon but as more and more wizards venture out of the safety of their hidden world, the higher the chances of being found out. Harry knew he would most likely see it in his lifetime and he would be front and center, ready to help the transition if need be. He had grown out his fear of the fame, now as an adult he knew that to do good, he could wield his fame and his fortune to make waves of change instead of ripples. His Potter-Black protocols were just a small example of what he could do with fame. Reports were still rolling in on how fast the lives of children were being saved all across ER's in the States. But in the end, that's just not enough for him. His family made waves back in Britain and he aimed to do that here in the States. His thoughts were suddenly broken up as Dr. Karev rushed over to him. "Dr. Potter-Black! Your wife is looking for you!"
"My wife? I'm not married Dr. Karev. Surely you are mistaken?" he questioned. Though something in the pit of stomach said otherwise.
"Yea. Flaming red hair, kinda athletic looking, can scream like a banshee?"
"That sounds like my ex-girlfriend. What is she doing here?"
"She's in the ER. She got hit by sedan crossing a road. Driver claims she just appeared out of nowhere. Scan shows she has an internal brain bleed."
Harry thought for a moment. "Okay, page Dr. Sheppard for a consult. Get Dr. Torres on standby for any bone breaks. I will be there shortly."
Alex quickly nodded and booked it down the hallway. Harry went to a supply closet and quickly sent out his silvery stag Patronus. "Ron. I need you here at the hospital right away. You can apparate directly to my office, it's warded and has a mild notice-me-not charm on it. Ginny's here and she was in accident." He quickly flicked his wand and exited the supply closet. He quickly stepped out of the closet with a long sign but only to catch Meredith waiting for him. "I heard she's here."
He quickly closed the gap and pulled her into a tight hug. "You are the one I want to be with Meredith Ellis Grey. Not her, never again. I have to go, its my ER after all," he grinned as he rushed off to his ER.
Meredith
Harry's hug was warm. His tone was sincere and with a tinge of the love that they were both starting to feel. He had just used her full name and it felt like a hopeful promise of a future to come. She watched as he skipped-jogged briefly before composing himself. She held her giggle in as she watched his antics. He didn't notice a piece of parchment fly out of his doctor's coat. Meredith quickly ran to catch up to hand it back to him, but he didn't notice her. She was going to just pocket it and hand back to him later, but she noticed that it wasn't a normal sheet of paper. It felt coarser and made of a different material. Her interest had piqued, and she started to read its contents:
To Lord Harry James Potter-Black,
We at the Magical Congress of the United States, hereby approve and sanction your relationship with a Meredith Ellis Grey. You have permission to reveal the world of magic to her and any associates you deem necessary to the success of your relationship. We would also like to remind you that, that you be careful on who you deem necessary, any major violations will be subject to massive fines, imprisonment, and/or oblivation. Though it seems it may not be necessary the Statue of Secrecy is not yet ready to be torn down and we again advise caution. However, with that being said we wish you luck in your relationship with Meredith Ellis Grey.
Yours,
Representative Steven D. Korbin,
MACUSA Representative of Washington State
"Magic?" she said quietly to herself. She had to find Harry. This was weird but something in the back of her mind echoed to the flowers that Harry had given her. It's been a week and those flowers didn't wilt. She no green thumb either and had almost forgot to put water in them a few times. She could have sworn that they also smelled just a fresh as the day that he given them. Meredith wanted to run to Cristina but the serious of the warnings of the letter made it clear that she had to Harry first. Somewhere deep in her, she knew was she going to be in for a wild ride.
Harry
Harry was in the ER. There he saw his ex-girlfriend lying on the gurney. She was strapped down to prevent her from thrashing about. Her right leg was broken in at least 2 spots, left wrist looked completely dislocated. It seems like her magic had shieled her from the worst of the injuries. However, he knew magic had its limits.
"Harry, my love. I've been looking for you! Come back home with me!" she yelled out.
"Ginny. You got hit by a car. You have very serious injuries that we must look at. I need you stay still while we examine you," he said evenly.
"Harry, I always knew you were my knight, my hero and the love of my life!" she squealed.
"Umm Dr. Potter-Black do you know her?" asked Dr. Bailey.
"Harry and I are married!" said Ginny, ignoring the fact that Dr. Bailey had asked Harry.
"She's my ex-fiancé from back in the UK…," he explained to Miranda.
"Okay, personal history. I don't care anymore. You can keep that to yourself," sassed Miranda.
"We never broke up Harry. I still love you after you cheated on me with all those women," Ginny said.
"Ginny, I never slept with anyone besides you. Are you okay?" he said.
Harry took a deeper dive on his examination. He examined her pupils, and they didn't respond to the external stimuli. She looked to be experiencing some sort of pseudo-hallucination.
"Dr. Bailey! Get her into the OR. I think she's got a hemorrhage in her brain. She's hallucinating. No responses to external stimuli, CT shows blood pooling on the hippocampus. Her memories are all jumbled up. Dr. Karev, scrub in! Someone page Dr. Sheppard!"
Ron
Ron quickly left his office and made the jump to Harry's office. He quickly looked around to make sure the coast we clear before exiting. He quickly cast a mild not me not charm and made way to the lobby to the receptionist and canceled the charm windlessly. "Hi, I'm Ron Weasley, I heard my sister was in an accident. Is she okay?"
The nurse quickly pulled up information on the computer. "Dr. Potter-Black and Dr. Sheppard are heading into the OR now. I can have some come out quicky for a run down if you need it."
Ron nodded. He waited briefly before he saw Harry run down to him. "Harry! What's going on? What happened to Ginny?" he panicked.
"She apparated in front of a car while making her way here. She's not thinking at all. CT showed a brain bleed on her hippocampus. Dr. Sheppard and I are scrubbing in to drain the fluid and to relieve the pressure on the brain. She will need to be transferred to Los Angeles eventually for magical care. But she isn't stable enough for that."
"Harry. Take care of her. Please."
"Always Ron. Always."
Ron watched as Harry booked it back to the OR. He was in for a long wait.
Harry
Harry and Derek worked quickly to drain the blood from Ginny's brain. But some complications had arisen while in surgery, the brain swelling was almost too much to get back under control and Ginny had to be resuscitated once. Thankfully some quick thinking from Dr. Sheppard saved her life. Nearly 5 hours later, he returned to Ron with good news. Ron looked worse for wear, thankfully it was Harry who was in the OR. Magical healers couldn't handle brain bleeds and it was always a 100% fatal cause of death on the healer's table. Harry told Ron to go home and to get into contact with his parents they would want to be out here as soon as possible. Thankfully they had the galleons to get an international portkey out here in the next 24 hours. After a few moments to collect himself, he clamped down on his occlumency shields. He had to check in on Ginny and his emotions couldn't get in the way. Dr. Karev had informed Harry that she had awoken sooner than anyone expected. Harry knew it was the magic working on her body. He made way to her room, a cold, unfazed expression on his face. Something he had learned from Daphne Greengrass while she and her father, Marcus Greengrass, had showed him how to truly accomplish his mental shields.
As he walked in Ginny was wide awake. But as soon as she saw him she flushed bright red and looked away from him.
"Ginny?" he tentatively said. He hadn't seen her flush that red since her 2nd year. He got no response. "Ginny it's me Harry," he tested again.
"I know its your Harry. But why are you wearing a white coat? Why does it say that Dr. Harry Potter-Black? Where are we? This isn't the hospital wing," she rambled.
Harry stopped in his tracks. She doesn't remember anything it seemed. He had to test it out. He closed the door behind him and pulled up the stool.
"Ginny what do you recall?"
"I remember my dad and Lord Malfoy getting into a fight in the alley? And then maybe some anger, and a diary I was writing in. I also remember a bird on fire? Though I think that's got to be a hallucination or something."
"Ginny do you not remember the war?"
"What war? Harry why do you look so old?"
"Ginny its 2005. You were in an accident, and you had a brain bleed. Your magic is healing you quickly, but you seem to be suffering from memory loss."
"WHAT! Where are my parents?"
"They will be here in 24 hrs. They are most likely taking an international port key in the morning and will be here shortly after."
"Harry?"
"Yes Ginny?"
"What all happened?"
"I think its best if your parents explain everything to you. But I would like to check something Ginny. I am a master Legilimens and I want to examine your mind for any damages. Do I have your permission to do so?"
"I suppose? That's mind reading right?"
"Of a sort. It's more of a deep dive into the memories and emotions that one experiences."
"I guess that's okay."
Harry took his wand, and firstly flicked the shades and locked the doors magically. Wishing no one to see what was happening. He then dived deep into her mind and found a small room. In the room there were 3 doors. However, 2 of those doors had been blown apart and the rooms it led to were completely erased. Stretching out his senses further he sensed a familiar darkness in those doors. It was Voldemort's magic. He pushed further, to clarify the room in case this was false brainscape, but he found nothing else. Harry quickly pulled out her mind. He looked at her with sadness. "Ginny. I'll need to speak with your parents when they get here. They can explain what happened."
"Harry? What's going on? What did you see?"
"I'm sorry Ginny…. truly. He waved his wand quickly and put her to sleep.
Harry turned and exited the room. With his Potter luck, he walked out to see Meredith standing in front of him once again. Holding a piece of parchment, he knew was now missing from his coat.
"Hi Meredith…. We need to talk," he said.
Meredith
She pulled Harry into a nearby on call room. She watched as he pulled out a stick and she heard him whisper Colloportus. A series of what seemed like latin words came out of his mouth, she could swear she heard the word muffle in there somewhere as well. There was a long pause before he spoke up. "Did you read the whole letter?"
"I did."
"I guess you want to know everything regarding the letter?"
"I do."
Harry went on to talk about magic and how it was hidden from the non-magical world. Citing the witch trials and some of the crusades as reasons why magic was hidden from them. He went on to talk about his finding out about magic at age 11 and the magical boarding school he went to.
"Why are you telling me about this now? It seems like something you tell further into a relationship Harry. I don't feel like we are there now, are we?" she said.
"Well, it was going to be a 'down the road' kind of conversation but my main fear is sitting across the hall in room 315 right now. I was afraid Ginny was going to hurt you. I wanted to tell you on my terms, but I guess I dropped the paper on my way to the ER this morning."
"Harry, I still find this hard to believe. Magic isn't real, is it? All I saw a moment ago was just you say some Latin sounding phrases."
Harry took the paper from Meredith's hand and whispered "Avifors." She watched as the seemingly normal piece of paper turn into a white dove. The dove flew to her hand and with a finite icantartem spoken by Harry it returned to the piece of parchment paper it was originally.
"Ok, but that could be a dove you have hidden your sleeve," she said not totally believing him or herself at this point. She was also kind of interested if he had showstopper.
"Ahh so the lady wishes for a much better demonstration huh?"
"Maybe?"
"As you wish," he winked. He stood up and she watched as he morphed his body into a majestic stag. He quite literally took up most of the room in the On-Call room. Thankfully they were in one of the larger rooms as his antlers took up a lot of space.
Meredith let out a quick shriek of surprise. But quickly calmed down as the stag nuzzled her hand. "Awwwwwwwww."
Harry quickly jumped back in to his human shape. "That's called an Animagus. Only a few wizards can transform into animals. Like my father before me, I can turn into a Red Deer, found commonly in most of Europe. Also… don't aww me, I can turn into of the noblest of creatures. Something to be wowed by."
"I can't help it Harry! You were just so cute!"
"Mer?"
"Harry?"
"Are you not freaked out about this?"
"You would think that but, strangely kind of okay with it? I don't know. I keep wanting to freak out but then I remember you. The kind and caring doctor that still cares about his ex. The handsome man that took me on a most wondrous date. It feels natural you know. Every day we've been seeing each other, I feel less and less dark and twisty inside."
"I get that. I do. I was preparing myself for the worst to be honest."
"Harry, if you had told me later in our relationship, I think it would have been worse. This is a HUGE secret based on this letter that we read. Your hand was forced, I get that."
"Meredith, I don't know what I did to deserve you in my life."
"Harry can I just say one thing. I know your ex is here and I'm afraid that you will leave me for her. She's pretty and she's a witch like you."
"She's a witch, I'm a wizard," Harry corrected. "Err sorry, shouldn't have done that."
"If I have to fight for you, I will Harry. I like the way you talk to me, they way you have this weird obsession with doing the right thing, even if sometimes I will hate you for it. You are the guy who I am willing to let eat the last piece of cheesecake. Pick me, chose me, love me!"
Harry only smiled at Meredith.
"Well? Aren't you going to like say something? You do have this annoying habit of saying or doing the right thing at the right time as well. I kind of hate that I like that about you," she snipped.
Harry closed the gap between them and pressed his lips to her. He held on to her, never wanting to let go. Their tongues fought a battle for dominance. Harry felt himself getting aroused so he pulled back suddnely.
"I already chose you silly. That's why I got the magical government's permission to fully embrace our relationship. Meredith Ellis Grey, be mine one and only?
"Duh, you silly man," as she went for another round with Harry.
Eventually he pulled back again. "Harry, you have to stop teasing a woman like that," she teased.
"Want to know something great about magic? Hold my hand tight and whatever you do don't let go. You may feel queasy, but it will pass quickly."
"Umm, okay?" as she grabbed his hand tightly.
Next thing she knew she felt like she was getting squeezed thru a tube of toothpaste. However as fast as that feeling came it was gone. She was now standing the bedroom of Harry's manor. "Our shifts just ended, and we have a full 12 hours before we need to head back."
"I love magic," she said breathlessly.
"Hey! That's my thing!" he joked.
A/N – Yea I can't write smut to save my life. But I will keep this as M rated just in case, I get brave enough to write anything dirtier. So I've been playing with idea in my head for time regarding Ginny's case. I would like to think that this version of Ginny has been suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Some reading indicates that this could happen, and multiple personalities could occur in response to severe trauma. So Ginny has 3 personalities that I may or may not explore. Again its not something I am too comfortable writing but it's a different take on Ginny as a character instead of the regular Ginny bashing that a lot of these other fics present her as. Her first Personality is the "Seductress", created after the Chamber. It kinda of plays off on her wanting to hide her fear and pain from Riddle by looking towards the most base of desire to cover it up. It also explains why she was rumored to have been seeing Dean Thomas and Michael Corner in such a short time frame in the books. Her 2nd Identity is the "Huntress" a person created during the Death Eater Occupation of Hogwarts. I'd like to think it was created when she was exposed to Crucio by the Carrows, and the "Huntress" is the persona she develops for her need of revenge and to channel her anger/rage. Her 3rd and final identity is the one we see in book cannon, she normal and true to self-Identity. This base identity gets easily pushed around though and the reason why she and Harry broke off their engagement in the first place is because both created faces of herself wanted to take control. (Like Marvel's Moon Knight). Though no one at the time knew she was suffering from this disorder and no normal healer could see that. (Mind Healers are not a thing in my head cannon). I will go further in detail in the next chapter. I don't know if I will upload soon. I usually need some time to put together a scene I want to happen. But next one is Weasley based. No bashing either.
