Chapter 11: More Suspicions
Kayla pulled up her computer and dialed up a number, the person she was looking to reach picking up the call after the second ring. "I had a feeling I'd be hearing from you, Kayla," the person said.
"Hey, Charles," she said. "How are things at the center?"
"Still fighting crime," he said. "You sure you don't want to come back into the spy business? You were one of the best. Still are."
She smiled. "Thanks for the compliment, Charles, but you know my heart lies with working on animatronics and working on computers and such," she said.
"Yeah, I know. That computer you gave me is amazing. I think some of the others are a bit jealous."
She chuckled. "Once things settle down, I'm looking to gift several of you computers like that," she said. "But don't tell anyone I said that."
"My lips are sealed," he said with a smile. "Anyway, what can I do for you?"
"Got some information I need you to look at," she said. "You recall Fazbear Corporation, right?"
"Yeah, they have that big pizzaplex with the animatronics," Charles said. "It's actually funny you should mention that. One of my buddies is one of the lawyers that has been negotiating the sale of the pizzaplex from Fazbear to new owners, but he said one of the buyers pulled him aside and asked him to find out some things in secret as the buyer has some suspicions, especially where the Fazbear people insisted on the sale happening within the time frame they gave."
"Some sales do go through right away, but Fazbear's is selling more than just their pizzaplex, right?" Kayla asked.
"Yeah," he said. "It sounds like they're throwing in everything, as if they want to just get rid of them."
"A sudden change in the sale proceedings, adding more than what was originally agreed upon," she said. "I can see where that would seem suspicious. Could the owners of Fazbear Corp. know we're onto them?"
"Or the rumors milling about are scaring them," Charles said. "Don't know if you're aware, but someone posted some things about Fazbear Corp. on the internet, things that don't paint them in a good light."
"What sorts of things?" Kayla asked.
"Like how children have died there and how Fazbear doesn't care about their employees and have made sure their employees don't speak about what goes on," he said.
She bit her lip. "We're not just talking hush money, are we?" She asked. "Fazbear Corp. is stingy with money, which we found out when they refused to fix Chica's beak."
"You hit the nail on the head," Charles said. "Either they offer a low amount of money for the employees to keep quiet, threaten their jobs, or...making sure those employees take the secrets to their grave."
He said the last part as if he had something very sour in his mouth. Kayla nodded. "Take a look at this," she said, plugging in the flashdrive and sending him the files that Misterioso had gathered for her. "An ally of ours gathered these and sent them to me. I'm guessing they hold documents that can stop the sale completely and expose whatever secrets Fazbear Corp. is so desperately trying to hide."
Charles took a look and he looked shocked a moment later. "Whoa, this is a gold mine," he said. "If the buyers saw this, they'd back out right away. There's phone messages and conversations on here that incriminate the owners of Fazbear and put them in a corner, with absolutely no way to exit."
She nodded again. "Do you want to share it with your lawyer friend?" She asked.
"Let me talk to the boss and see how to go about this," he said. "This is sensitive information. Wouldn't want my buddy to lose his license because he stopped a big sale."
"You're right," Kayla said. "That wouldn't be fair to him."
"Keep in touch, Kayla. I'll keep you updated on what goes on."
"Will do. Be careful, Charles."
"Same to you, partner."
She smiled. Though she was no longer a spy, Charles still called her that because they were good friends and they had worked together on many cases. Ending the call, she got up and went to find Vanessa, who smiled as she ended the call she had been on. "Good news?" Kayla asked.
"Yes. Uncle James agreed to help us. He's at Grandpa's farm now and he's been fixing it up over the years. It's ready for us to go underground if we need to," Vanessa said.
"Did you tell him why we need his rig?"
The blonde-haired woman nodded. "Get this, he used to deliver for Fazbear Corp. and the pizzaplex used to be on his delivery route, but after he told them off for not keeping the maintenance up on the animatronics, who he felt should be treated as if they were human since they have feelings, they fired him and then his boss, who he was good friends with, fired him, but before he left, his boss gave him an envelope and when Uncle James got home, he opened it and found a letter from his friend, telling him that Fazbear Corp. had threatened his family."
Kayla growled. "I'm beginning to dislike the owners of Fazbear Corp. more and more now," she said. "Maybe it's a good thing they didn't hire me."
"I agree," her sister said. "Uncle James helped his friend and his family to relocate to a new place that is heavily guarded by the same group that served with Uncle James in the army."
The teenager nodded. "Where do we meet Uncle James?" She asked.
"He's coming here right now," Vanessa said. "He should be here in two hours tops."
"Let's grab our stuff and get ready then."
The two told the animatronics the plan and everyone was soon ready to go and the safe location was locked up tight. The girls' uncle soon pulled up and he exited the rig, going up to the girls. "Jam," he said.
"Rhubarb," Vanessa and Kayla said instantly before hugging their uncle, who hugged them back.
"I'm so glad my cowgirls are okay," he said. "Come on, let's get everyone loaded up and get out of here. Some of my buddies said over the radio they thought they saw a white rabbit that looked like it had soot on it, but it moved too fast for them to get a clearer look at. The rabbit ears were the only thing seen."
Everyone froze at that. "Vanny," Kayla said.
Loid looked grim. "How far is the farmhouse from here?"
"Two days drive," James said. "I was on my way here when Vanessa called me."
Yor looked at the trailer and saw it was large enough for the animatronics and it was padded. "You came prepared," she said.
"Yup. Let's get the animatronics strapped in."
"Can I ride in the back with them?" Gregory asked.
"Sorry, kiddo. It's not a safe area to ride in," James said gently. "I do have a radio connected to the back there that is separate from my talking radio. You can talk to them through that, okay?"
The boy nodded and Freddy hugged him. "It'll be okay, Gregory," he said.
Anya hugged the animatronics too, who hugged the kids and adults before getting into the trailer. James, Vanessa, and Kayla quickly secured the animatronics, who were worried, but ready for the journey. "It should be a smooth journey," Kayla said.
"Let's hope so," Sun said.
Moments later, they were all on the road, leaving their enemies far behind them.
Next up: they get to the farmhouse and Fazbear Corp. starts to get more desperate.
