Chapter 12: The Farm

Two days passed swiftly, much to everyone's relief, and they were soon pulling up to the farm. Kayla gasped happily as she saw the apple trees and peach trees that were laden with what looked like ripe fruit. "Wait, are the apples and peaches ready for harvesting?!" She asked, looking as excited as a kid on Christmas.

"Weeelll," James drawled out before laughing heartily at seeing Kayla's expression. "Yes, kiddo, they're ready."

"Yay!"

The teen's cheer was heard by the animatronics, who couldn't help chuckling at her enthusiasm. Even Vanessa laughed, but she had to agree with Kayla. "Grandpa's apple trees and peach trees have the best fruits," she said. "Remember how Grandma always made those yummy peach pies?"

"And the dried cinnamon apple rings?" Kayla said, recalling the memory before giggling. "Oh, man. Remember that time I tried to help Grandma with making those and the whole kitchen ended up covered in cinnamon?"

James laughed in amusement. "Oh, I remember that one," he said. "You were just a little tyke then, Kayla. No more than five years old and ready to tackle the kitchen."

Vanessa laughed. "Oh, my goodness, I remember that," she said. "How many bottles of shampoo did Mom go through trying to get all that cinnamon out of your hair? I swear it nearly turned your hair a different color."

"I think it was at least two bottles of shampoo," Kayla replied. "And having to constantly comb my hair to try and get the cinnamon out of it. Didn't I end up having red streaks in my hair for a few days?"

"I think so, yeah," her sister said. "At least they weren't noticeable and your teacher got a good laugh when you told her you had gotten cinnamon all over you when you brought her a cinnamon apple pie at school."

"It was a good thing she liked the smell of cinnamon, as did my classmates," the teen said. "Believe it or not, we had had a boy in class who liked to leave stink bombs around the room and he had been moved to another school, but the smell of the stink bombs lingered, so my coming in smelling like cinnamon actually helped to get rid of that stinky smell."

Sun and Moon were both laughing. "Oh, we know stink bomb pranks all too well," the latter said. "We had to deal with a few of those at the Daycare."

"Oh, goodness. I swear I could still smell those horrible smells for weeks!" His counterpart said.

James pulled the rig to a stop and they all got out, glad to stretch and be out of the truck, though it had been a comfortable ride. Anya smelled the fresh air and saw a path and her eyes lit up. "Mommy. Daddy, can I go exploring?" She asked.

"Would that be okay with you, James?" Yor asked.

"That's fine," he said. "We've got miles of land and it's well fenced in. The kids are more than safe."

He turned to the three kids. "Go on and run around," he said. "Maybe Kayla can give you a tour."

"Sure," the teen said with a smile.

"Alright, off you kids go then," James said. "Come back when you hear the bell."

"Yay!" Anya said.

"Come on, let's race!" Gregory said, already taking off with Anya behind him.

Kayla grinned and took off after them, jumping high and managing to snag a ripe peach from one of the trees before snagging two more and running after Gregory and Anya. Vanessa went to another tree and picked a few of the fruits, bringing them over for the others to try. The animatronics declined politely, but commented on the sweet smell of the fruit.

"Dad put some kind of special fertilizer in the soil that made the fruit trees grow big and strong and whatever he used also makes the fruit taste sweeter than what you get in the grocery store," James said.

"Nothing beats a home-grown fruit," Vanessa said, fond memories coming back to her as she bit into the sweet fruit.

Yor was surprised. "Oh, my goodness, these are amazing!" She said.

"I agree with my wife," Loid said, enjoying the fruit.

"Looks like we arrived just in time to harvest them," James said. "It'll get our minds off of the whole situation with that Fazbear Corp and give Kayla's friend some time to share that evidence with those that need to see it."

"I hope he'll be able to stop the sale Kayla mentioned in its tracks," Vanessa said.

Freddy was quiet, which the others noticed. "Freddy?" Chica asked softly.

He looked at them. "What will happen to us then?" He asked. "All of us, save for Sonar, belong to Fazbear Corp."

"Oh, don't you worry your head about that," James said. "Kayla's got something cooking up to help you guys out. She hasn't told me much beyond that, but let me tell you, when that girl puts her mind to helping someone, she goes the whole hog to make sure things work out."

"Goes the whole hog?" Sun repeated, cocking his head to the side curiously.

"In other words, she makes sure all her bases are covered," Vanessa said. "She's looked into everything to make sure her plan will work."

"From what we've seen, she's determined," Moon said. "I wonder what her plan involving us is."

"Knowing her, she's probably going to see about buying us from Fazbear Corp.," DJ Music Man said.

"Do you think she can?" Roxy asked curiously.

"The company won't give us up that easily," Chica said.

"Oh, don't worry," Sonar said. "Kayla's got a plan to have them meet her demands, but she's been hush-hush about it with me."

"Probably wants to make sure it's foolproof before she shares it with us," Misterioso said. "She's quite clever. I certainly wouldn't mind if she was my owner, because I know she'd be kind to us and treat us right."

"I'm inclined to agree with him," Monty said. "Kid's been treating us like we matter. It's kind of nice, to be honest."

"Kayla certainly is a good person," Freddy said.

"Alright, enough seriousness right now," James said. "You guys need to lighten up. Take some time to stroll the farm and forget your worries for a bit. We're going to be harvesting apples and peaches tomorrow, so if you want, you can go around and see which fruits are ready and scope out the fruit that isn't quite ready yet."

DJ Music Man looked around. "It's nice to have such an open space," he said as he walked away.

"James, do you by chance have farm animals here?" Chica asked curiously.

"Sure do," he said. "Vanessa, you want to show them?"

"Sure, Uncle James," the blonde-haired woman said. "Come on, guys. Let me show you the animals here."

As they headed out, James got a call from a buddy. "It's ready," his friend said.

"Alright," he said. "Now we just got to wait for Kayla to send word to Fazbear Corp. I think she's going to do that within the next few days."

"The sellers have pulled out of the sale?"

"Not yet, but I have a feeling they will soon."

With that, he said goodbye and hung up the phone. "I just hope this all works," he said to himself.

Hmm. Could Uncle James be up to something? We shall see. :)
