AN: Okay, maybe it would be a good idea just to post the story in parts. So here it is.
Diokophobia: The fear of being chased by someone or something.
(RWBY X EVOLVE)
TIME: AFTERNOON
DATE: UNKNOWN
PLANET: UNKNOWN
Do you ever go somewhere new or see an image of a new place, and for some reason, it feels... familiar as if you've been there before in your life even though you haven't?
Well, this is what our Monster friend Goliath feels right now.
Goliath has been on this planet for hours, and it—or he—is free to do whatever he wants. Free from being ordered by the Alphas to do their dirty work, forcing him and his brothers and sisters (although the Monsters are genderless), and killing half of them in the process.
When they have finished the jobs, the Alphas let them hunt the wildfires and the colony to gain energy to evolve to the next stage and grow stronger and bigger, but not him. He was different from the others. He didn't want to evolve. He wanted a fair fight between wildlife and humans. If he did evolve, the fight would be over in seconds, although the other Monsters would question why he didn't evolve, telling him that he is strange Including that annoying Kraken.
Goliath didn't care what the others said about how evolving to the next stage felt good and made them stronger. Even if the Alphas tried to order him or threatened him. He won't do it.
But there was one monster who was interested in him. That monster was in stage three and he even cared for him. You could say he was a...
We're going off-topic here. Goliath had been on this planet for hours and had never felt excited in his entire life. Exploring this place.
Although he noticed something strange about this planet. One of these black creatures, there are a lot of black creatures, AND I MEAN LOTS OF THEM. Goliath once saw a horde of the black creatures, hundreds of them, but half were different species, some small, others bigger, with the same colour, bone plating around their bodies, and monstrous looks.
Goliath may be strong, but he is not dumb enough to attack them. Some of the black creatures are bigger than him.
But what is confusing about the black creatures is that they won't attack each other, even if they look different, and they don't even eat. Goliath had been watching a pack of black creatures similar to the one he had fought before, but in their pack were bears bigger than the werewolf, and not once did he see them eat or hunt any wildlife, even when they stumbled upon a herd of deer.
The black creatures just did nothing to the herd of deer. They didn't even show any hostility towards the deer, and the herd didn't seem afraid of the black creatures when they started to leave. The black creatures let them go, which confused Goliath. Maybe the black creatures are friendly to wildlife.
Before the pack of black creatures comes across a regular pack of wolves and... massacres them. Okay, that was instantly thrown out the window.
But what is more strange is that the pack he was watching saw him. He initially assumed they would attack him in the same manner as when he first arrived on this planet, and for a brief moment, they and he locked gazes. Then they did something unexpected.
They simply left, which shocked him. Why did they leave like that? Did they not notice that he was a foreign creature, or did they not care?
Whatever that was, maybe they are friendly to some of the wildlife and hostile to others. But speaking of wildlife.
There isn't much fauna on this planet other than Shear. In Shear, there are animals everywhere you look, from the smallest to the largest, but on this planet, the animals are...quite pathetic, not gonna lie.
There was this one time a bear (the normal one) tried to attack Goliath because he was in its territory, but Goliath was disappointed at its intimidation because he killed it easily. The black creature's version of the bear is stronger and scarier, but that didn't scare him.
But while he was exploring around, he discover something else... There may be intelligent life on this planet.
Goliath had found a sign on a road with left and right turns. Goliath saw the words on the sign, and he was surprised to recognise the language as English, which confused him about how there was a human language here on this planet he was familiar with. He would read the words, but... he can't read.
But he can make out that it is only a few miles away, although the name of the road on the right is crossed out for some reason, and it appears that someone has crossed off the name.
And right now, Goliath is going to the town by going through the forest to not get caught by any of the black creatures, even if they don't attack him.
But he was not gonna... what was the Human saying again? 'Not gonna tried his luck'
Although he is on his way to town, he has one question on his mind: why is he going to town?
Why does he want to see them? He and his kind have been killing human life for several years, devouring and destroying planets, so why does he want to find any intelligent life? Is he looking to return to his old self by killing them?
He remembered that when he sees or thinks about them, he feels rage and wants to kill them, destroying their planets and devouring the people they loved, but now... he doesn't feel that way anymore toward them.
But he's not going to stop killing them. he will kill them like before in Shear, although he wonders what changes.
Goliath came to a halt when he smelled something in the forest ahead of him. To his surprise, he sniffs the air again, and he starts to see a black-and-white outline of a familiar shape.
Humans. Surprised, he sniffed again, and one of them smelled strange.
Goliath quickly went all four to sneak up on the humans and then stopped behind a bush to see four humans sitting on the ground surrounding a campfire. On top of it was a pot cooking food, but Goliath noticed one of the humans had a wolf's tail, and all four had strange weapons next to them, which confused him.
Huh, strange. Did humans evolve to have animal parts? Goliath thought as he was surprised at the animal's person. Did half of humanity evolve to survive the black creatures? Or maybe there are animal people because humans started to... mate with wildlife.
Goliath shudders at the thought, hoping that is not the reason why there are animal people. Then he heard one of them speak.
"Um, what are we doing here?" A man wearing goggles asks the other, who is leaning against a tree with his arms crossed.
"Waiting for the attack on the town, of course," another man said, laying on a mat with his eyes closed.
"I know that. I want to know why we're here." Concerning his safety, Goggles gestured his arms around the forest.
"If you worry 'bout your safety, kid, the scout already checked for any Grimm nearby, and if there are any here, we'll protect you." A woman with a wolf's tail stood next to the goggled man, teasing him and lightly punching him on the shoulder, making him pout.
Grimm? Do they mean the black creature? Goliath discovers the name of the black creature and wonders how humanity (and the animal's people) survived.
"Don't call me a kid. I'm like in my twenties," He said, then added. "But I have to ask, what kind of town is Ebenten?" He asked, and a man next to the pot started explaining to him and the other as he stirred the soup inside.
Ebenten was first built with others like it around the world during a war called The Great War. Ebenten was a military base where soldiers were trained and weapons were manufactured for the war, but it was also a safe haven for humans and Faunus to stay and help while the Grimm was on the rampage due to the negative emotions everywhere. The base was always attacked by the Grimm; fortunately, they survived and made it until the end of the war.
After the war was over, The King of Vale ordered the remaining military base in Vale to become a town for all people and a place for the new Huntsman and Huntresses to resupply and stay a bit.
"And that is the history of Ebenten." He finished as he gave four bowls to him and the other three while looking at his surprise.
Then Sleeper jokingly asked. "What are you, a history teacher?" After he said that, Cooker looked at him deadpan and spoke in an annoying voice.
"I read... do you?" He raised an eyebrow and smirked at him. Sleeper was about to retort to him when he realised he couldn't read. He turned away and muttered something angry.
Everyone except him laughed for a few seconds before the wolf lady asked the cook a question.
"How are we going to raid Ebenten with their defences along with the Huntsman and soldiers we have to fight, plus we may need to fight the Grimm as well because of the negative emotions going around in that town." The Wolf Woman spoke, and the other two agreed with her.
"Ah, but you see, we are not going to fight them because there is someone inside the town who is going to shut down their defences and cause destruction, which will bring the Grimm, and the Huntsman will have to deal with the Grimm, then we will wait until one of them dies. When one of them dies, we come in, kill any survivors or make them slaves, take their equipment, and then we celebrate and have fun with the slave if you get what I mean." The Cook finished speaking as he scooped the soup and poured it into four bowls, then handed the soup to the three, who thanked him before taking a sip.
Ah, so that's what they are. They are bandits. Goliath realised what they were. This is the first time he saw bandits. Back in Shear, the only humans he fought were the colonists and soldiers.
Then Goliath frowned, perplexed as to what hunters and huntresses were. Are they like the Hunters from Shear? Do they fight the Grimm as the cook said? Many thoughts popped around in his head as he felt curious about the Huntsman and Huntresses.
Maybe the Huntsman and Huntresses are strong. Goliath thought as he smiled, imagining himself fighting these Huntsman and Huntresses but then his imagination stopped as he heard the Goggled ask the cook.
"Wait, how did you know the plan of the attack? Did you guess the plan or ask the leader?" Goggled said as he looked at the cook. The Cook just laughed, shaking his head, then replied to him.
"Nah, I just talked to the leader of the attack about the plan, and he told me everything," He said as he sat on a log. "And he even knows the person's insides, and, I quote, 'A scorpion Faunus who simps a lot.' I don't know what kind of friend he has, but I'm not going to ask."
"Wait, one more question," Goggles asked again. "Who is the leader of the attack? I never met the guy and still don't know who he is." After he said that, all three of the bandits looked surprised at him.
"Wait, you don't know? Everyone in the criminal underworldknows about the guy since he is a well-known bandit leader." The Sleeper said, "The bandit leader's name is Hawk." Then the Wolf Woman joins the conversation.
"And I heard that the guy was a Branwen, and he was the strongest in the tribe, even at the same level as the old leader, but then a bandit got back from somewhere and duelled the leader for the throne of the tribe, which the guy accepted, but... the guy lost and died." She paused as she saw Goggles was surprised that the previous leader had been lost to a bandit who had gotten back from somewhere.
Hm, how did the leader lose even though he was strong? Goliath pondered, wishing he could fight the previous leader but feeling ashamed that he didn't.
"What happened after?"
"Well," she continued, scratching her head. "After the bandit became the leader of the tribe, a few weeks later, Hawk and his followers tried to assassinate the leader, but somehow the new leader was able to defeat them and banish them from the tribe, but not before giving Hawk a nasty scar on his face." She said this as she brought her finger close to her face and lowered it.
"And after he was kicked out, some of the bandits joined him, leaving the tribe and forming their tribe in Vale, raiding villages and killing Huntsman, and they became the most dangerous tribe in Vale, known as Burning Wing." She finishes as the other threeabsorb the information.
Goliath has been listening to them for a while and thinking about the information he got from the bandits. Goliath is excited and worried at the same time. If he still wants to go to the town, even if it is about to be raided soon, he won't get a chance to fight Hawk and the other bandits, but if he does go to fight them, everyone will see him and panic, attacking him and calling him these 'Huntsman', and he didn't want to be discovered yet.
He was thinking about this so much that it made him growl.
Wait...
"Did you hear that!" Goggled said as he and the others shot up, grabbing their weapons, as they heard him growling behind the bushes.
"Is that a Grimm?" Sleeper said, pointing at his weapon, but what is strange is that the gun looks like a sword and a shotgun.
"If that was a Grimm, then why didn't it attack us immediately?" Cooker said, lifting his war hammer, then adding, "And why is it alone, though?"
"Maybe a new type of Grimm?" Wolf Lady guesses as she brings up her weapon, which looks like brass knuckles with a claw on them.
Goliath mentally curses himself as he accidentally exposes himself. He should have kept his emotions in check.
Ah, too bad. I was going to leave them alive. He admittedly thought this as he slowly rose behind the bushes, growling and moving towards them.
"What the hell is that..." Goggled gasped in horror as he and the others backed away, their weapons shaking in their hands in fear.
As Goliath was coming closer to them. Sleeper then shot his weapon at Goliath's head, to their shock. All the pellets bounced off Goliath's head and landed softly on the ground. Both Goliath and the bandits looked at the bullets on the ground, then back at each other.
"Oh, shit..." Sleeper mutters as they watch in horror as Goliath growls at them and then pounces towards them, and they all scream as they try to fight back, but it is to no avail as they are killed one by one.
And they were not the only ones who died in that forest.
AN: Now, wait for the next one in a year lol.
