Ch. 6: The First Outing as A Couple, A Friend, and A Brother

written 3/7/23

Red woke up the next morning at about nine feeling bright and cheery, more so than usual. Then, he knew why. "That's right!" he cried happily. "It's because I have girlfriend

now, and with exception of Chuck and Bomb, I had no friends much less a girlfriend till now!" Red skipped down the stairs to the kitchen and made himself some bacon and

eggs for breakfast. As he was sitting down at the table Red looked around at the three other empty seats. "Well I've had Chuck and Bomb over for dinner on numerous

occasions." he thought. "Maybe I should invite Silver over one of these days and make a meal for her." He started eating his breakfast while he wondered what the day would

hold. "Maybe I'll go pay Silver a visit once I'm done with breakfast and we can do something together as a couple for the first time." he said again to himself. Once he had

finished breakfast, he went to his bedroom and looked himself over in the mirror. "I guess I look good enough." he said to himself and with that he left the house.

Silver had just woke up from a very peaceful sleep and jumped out of bed enthusiastically. She skipped on out from her bedroom and into the kitchen to make her breakfast.

"I'm in such a good mood from the knowledge that I'm now in a romantic relationship!" she exclaimed. She went about making herself some french toast for breakfast. Then

she looked around her kitchen table and it was empty save the few extra chairs. "Well, if I have Red over sometime for a meal, I could use those chairs and his cute

company." she thought and chuckled to herself at the phrase "cute company". "Maybe I'll spring that on him." she said. Just then she heard a knock at the front door. "Who is

it?" she called out at the door. "It's Red." replied the voice. "Oh, hold on a second." she said as she got up to unlock the front door. "Good morning Red." she said smiling

sweetly. "Good morning Silver." he said. "Come on in sweetheart." said Silver. "Thank you babe." he replied as entered his girlfriend's humble abode. Silver closed the door.

"Do you want to sit down on the couch with me?" she asked. "Sure." Red answered. The two of them sat down on the couch together. "So what are you up to?" Silver asked.

"Well, I woke up and was feeling so cheerful over the fact that you are my girlfriend." he replied. "So I first decided to have breakfast, the most important meal of the day,

and then pay you, my girlfriend, the first visit of the day." "Well then I guess I got to have a very similar scenario." she said. Suddenly Silver pulled Red closer and started

making out with him. Then he reciprocated the affectionate gesture. Once they parted they looked into each other's eyes and felt a brief, yet blissful silence taking place.

Silver batted her eyelashes and then broke the silence. "I love you Red." she stated. "I love you too Silver." he said. They were about to give each other another kiss, when

suddenly they heard another knock at the door. "Hold on babe." Silver whispered as she put the tip of her wing on his beak. "Who is it?" she inquired. "It's your brother and

Bomb." answered the voice. "Can we come in, we're looking for Red because I want to hang out both you two and Bomb." The two lovebird gasped. "Uh-oh." they whispered

in unison. Silver looked at Red. "Just stay on the couch." she said. "He already knows about us." "Yea, I guess you're right." he said in agreement.

By the time that Red and Silver got up Chuck had already got up and finished breakfast. "Hmm, maybe Red, Silver, and Bomb would like to hang out?" he asked himself. With

that he did a quick overview of himself in his mirror and zipped on out the door over to Bomb's place. Once he arrived he knocked on the door. "Who is it?" asked Bomb. "It's

Chuck." answered Chuck. "Okay hold on." said Bomb as he got up to open the door. "Hey Chuck, what's going on?" "Well, not much at the moment, but do you wanna hang

out with Red, Silver, and myself?" inquired Chuck. "Sure why not?" answered Bomb and with that the two of them walked out the front door. "Yo Chuck, where's Red and

Silver. "We're going to get Red next and then we'll get Silver." replied Chuck. "After that we can all do something fun together." "Alright, let's go." said Bomb. The two friends

walked over to Red's house. Chuck arrived slightly earlier than Bomb. He knocked on the door and there was no answer. Bomb had just arrived as Chuck rang the bell, and

there was still no answer. "Well maybe Silver knows where he is." suggested Bomb. Then, Chuck had a vision of Red and his sister making out. With that in mind he looked at

Bomb. "What is it?" inquired Bomb. "I have a feeling that Red is at my sister's place already." replied Chuck. The two of them looked at each other, nodded, and headed over

to Silver's house. Upon arrival, Chuck knocked on the door and heard his sister's voice. "Just a minute." she said.

"It's okay sweetheart." said Silver quietly when she saw her boyfriend so nervous. "He's not going to hurt you." She gave him a quick kiss and got up to answer the door.

Once she opened the door for Chuck and Bomb, Chuck rushed in and gave his sister a quick hug. "Hey sis, do you know where Red is?" he asked as they parted from each

other while Bomb shut the door. "Oh he's been hanging out here with me." Silver replied. Chuck looked past his sister to see Red sitting on the couch. Red gave Chuck a

friendly smile and a brief wave. "Hey Chuck what's up?" he asked. Chuck on the other hand gave him a very brief smile and directed his attention back to his sister. "How long

has he been here with you?" he inquired. "Since the time I finished my breakfast." she answered. "Why do you ask?" "Well Bomb and I went to Red's place because we were

going to pick him up first." he explained while attempting to cover up the real reason which was his uneasiness about Red and his sister being alone together. "There was no

answer so we came directly here originally to ask if you'd seen him." "Alright." said Silver accepting her brother's explanation. "So now that you've found him what do you

want?" Bomb who sensed that more tension was building stepped in. "Chuck and I just thought that it would fun if we could all hangout together for the day." he replied. "Oh

alright." said Silver. She turned her attention back to Red. "Would you be down for that, my love?" she asked. "Sure." Red answered as he got up off the couch. He walked up

next to her and held her wing. "Okay let's go." said Bomb. With that they four friends made their way out of Silver's house and headed for the village.

Once they reached the village the four friends looked at the various venues to visit. Then Bomb saw one that seemed to stand out. "Look guys, how about that?" he said

pointing towards it. Once they followed his wing, they saw it. "The Liquid Breakfast?" inquired Chuck reading the name out loud. "Yes." replied Bomb. "Looks interesting." said

Red who then turned to Silver. "What do you think, babe?" "Sounds promising." answered Silver turning back to him. "Alright then, let's go!" cried Bomb enthusiastically. Once

they reached the front desk a host bird approached them. "We need a table for four please." stated Red. "Under the name Red." "Alright." said the host bird who then began

looking down the wait list. "The wait is five minutes." "Okay, I understand." replied Red and he turned to the group. "So what do you guys want to do for five minutes?" "How

about we just sit down for a bit." Chuck suggested. "Alright." said Silver as she sat down next to her brother. She looked at Red and patted the area on the other side of her.

Red took a seat next to her and Bomb decided to sit next to Red. There was an awkward silence for a few minutes between the four birds. Bomb was just about to speak

when they were suddenly called. "Red party of four?" asked the host bird. "Yes, that's us." answered Red. "Right this way please." The four friends followed the host bird to an

outdoor wooden table overlooking the water from the beach. This view gave off the mellow serenity of a tropical atmosphere which was complimented by the sunny weather.

Bomb and Chuck were the first to sit down next to each other. Red pulled Silver's chair for her to sit next her brother. "Why, thank you Red." she said. "You're such a

gentlebird." "No problem." Red replied with a wink and made his way to his chair. He sat down next to Bomb and Silver across from Chuck. (To make it easy for you guys it

wasn't like a booth, but it was Red next to Silver next to Chuck next to Bomb who was next to Red). "Here are your menus." said the host bird passing out one to each bird at

the table. "Your waiter will be along shortly." After the host bird took his leave the four friends looked over the menu. Although they were each given their individual menus,

Red declined his and chose to share one with Silver. Chuck and Bomb, on the other wing, each chose to keep their individual menus. Red leaned over to Silver. "Hey Silver, do

you want to share one item on the menu between the two of us?" he asked in a flirty, teasing manner. Silver blushed and chuckled. "Sure." she replied. Then out of her

peripheral vision towards her brother she noticed him wearing his annoyed facial expression, at which point she turned back to her boyfriend. "Actually Red, as much as I

would like to do that, I want us to stay true to the promise we made to my brother, and not do things like that that romantic couples would do together." Red looked across at

Chuck and he did look irritated. Then he looked back to his girlfriend. "Well, I guess you're right, as usual." replied Red with a sigh of defeat. "Cheer up sweetheart." said

Silver as she gave Red a loving pat on his back. "There will always be time for romance later." Just then the waiter bird approached the four friends. "Hello, I'm Allen and I'll

be your waiter this morning." said Allen. "What can I start you all off with?" All four friends scanned the menu. Silver was the first to respond. "I'll have the Smooth Sun." she

said. "I love a smoothie blend of pineapple, banana, orange, strawberry, and yogurt." "Alright." said Allen scribbling down the order. "Make that two." added Red. "I'll have the

one with the orange, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and mint." said Chuck. "The Fruity Eagle, nice choice." said Allen. "How about you?" he inquired looking at Bomb. "I'll

have the one with orange flesh honeydew, pineapple, mango, strawberries, blueberries, papaya, lemon juice, and lime juice." "Alright, one Tropical Island." said Allen as

finished taking the final order. "I'll put your orders in right away." With that Allen took his leave. There was once again a few moments of silence at the table between the four

friends. Then Bomb was once more the one to break it. "So what has everyone been up to these days?" he inquired. Everyone looked at him with neutral facial expressions.

"What?" Silver took the difficult, yet necessary task to respond. "Umm, do you really wanna ask all of us that question?" she replied sarcastically. Bomb looked around the

table and saw now somewhat annoyed looks from everyone. "Sure, why not?" he inquired innocently. "It's just a simple question." "Very well, we'll give you a simple answer."

replied Chuck with a hint of annoyance in his voice. "We're all very tense about recent new and evolving relationships." Bomb was rather taken aback by his friend's tone, and

then around at the rest of the group who nodded in agreement. At that moment Allen arrived with their orders. "Alright, I've got two Smooth Suns." he said looking around at

the group. "Right here." said Red and Silver nicely in unison raising one wing each. Allen set the two drinks down in front of them. "Thank you." said the pair. "You're

welcome." answered Allen cheerfully. The two looked at each other and let loose a brief chuckle. Chuck saw this and got slightly more annoyed. "One Fruity Eagle." said Allen

looking arounnd the table. Chuck raised his wing and Allen set the beverage down in front of him. "Thanks Allen." said Chuck with a neutral tone of voice. "You got it." Allen

replied. "And finally one Tropical Island." Bomb raised his wing and Allen set the drink in front of him. Bomb immediately took a sip. "Thank you so much Allen." he stated. "It

tastes delicious." "I'm glad you like it." replied Allen and then he looked at the whole group. "Well, you all enjoy." he stated and with that he took his leave. Aside from the

uneasy silence and awkward feeling atmosphere everyone was enjoying their smoothies. After ten minutes of this, Silver leaned over and whispered to Red. "What do you say

we take the rest of our smoothies to go?" she suggested. "Sounds like a great idea." Red whispered back in agreement. So they called for Allen once he was on his way to

check on them. "Is everything okay here?" he inquired with concern. "Everything is delicious." answered Silver. "Unfortunately, we've got to be going." "Alright, shall I bring

you some to go cups so you can take your drinks with you?" asked Allen. Silver looked over to Red who then nodded. "That would be lovely." she replied looking back to Allen.

Allen looked at the other two birds. "How about you two." he inquired. "Yes please." answered Bomb. Then he looked at Chuck. "How about you?" Chuck simply gave him a

silent thumbs up." "Very well." said Allen and with that he left to get them their to go cups. Once Allen was out of earshot Silver looked at her brother. "Well, thanks a lot

Chuck." she said. "What the hell did I do?" Chuck inquired stunned at his sister's sarcastic tone. "Well, let me break it down for you." she answered. "You made everyone

including our waiter so uncomfortable with your negativity that we can't happily enjoy our drinks in public." "I'm with your sister on this one." Red added. "I'm going to walk

her home, we may even hang out for a bit, and you and Bomb can each do your own thing. He looked to Silver, who nodded in agreement. "Well that's just fine with me!"

yelled Chuck drawing attention from everyone in the entire restaurant. Red, Silver, and Bomb were all appalled by this outburst. "That's it, you've embarrassed us enough for

the day!" Silver cried out at her brother and then she looked at Red who got up immediately with her, and held her wing. "Come on babe, let's go!" "You got it sweetheart." he

replied and with that the two lovebirds took their leave. Chuck stared after them for a while then looked at Bomb. "Well, do you want to do something together." he muttered.

Bomb just stared at him with a stern expression. "As much as it pains me to say it, I'm with Red and your sister." said Bomb. "You have embarrassed me as well so I too am

leaving." Chuck was beside himself and couldn't bring himself to stand up. Just then Allen came by with the to go cups for everyone's smoothies. "Here you go." he said

putting the cups down in front of the troubled Chuck who couldn't even bother to notice him. "Have a great day." Chuck couldn't bother to speak. He left the venue with

everyone mumbling about him and his radical outburst. Only then did he realize how his behavior caused himself to be alienated from his sister and his friends. "I guess I let

my jealousy get the better of me." he said to himself. "Next time I see them I will give each of them a sincere apology and hope they will accept it, but for now I might as well

go home." So he walked home slowly with shame. When he arrived home he lingered in a depressed state for the rest of the day and cried himself to sleep in the night.

Meanwhile, Red and Silver had just arrived at Silver's humble abode. "I'm so sorry about my brother." said Silver as she closed the door and still shocked by Chuck's behavior.

"What he did to the two of us and Bomb was unacceptable." "I agree." said Red. "I will expect a formal apology from him, and I'm sure that you and Bomb will as well." "Babe

it's like you can read my mind." said Silver with a slight smile. The two birds gave each other a kiss and looked at each other. "So what should we do for the rest of the day?"

asked Red. "Well, I think we should have lunch here." suggested Silver. "I'll make some grilled salmon." "That sounds like a wonderful idea." answered Red. "While you do

that, I'll set the table." "Thank you." replied Silver. Thirty minutes had past and Red already had the table set when he heard his girlfriend's call. "Hey babe lunch is ready."

she said. "Great." he replied as proceeded to bring both plates over. "Oh thank you for bringing my plate over as well." said Silver as Red gave her the first plate. "No worries,

and as I know ladies first." said Red. "Thank you." replied Silver as she accepted the plate, grabbed a one piece of grilled salmon, and sat down at the table. Red then

proceeded to do the same. "Alright, let's dig in." said Silver. Red ate the first piece of his salmon. "Silver, this is absolutely delicious." Red said complimenting his girlfriend's

cooking. "Thank you." she replied. "I think it is pretty yummy myself." The rest of the day after that was spent cuddling together on the couch and having crab for dinner.

Then just as dinner was ending he heard his girlfriend's voice. "Hey Red, can you do me a favor?" Silver asked with somewhat of a plea in her voice. "Sure, sweetheart

anything." Red answered. "Under the circumstances, can you sleep over tonight?" Silver requested as she embraced him. "I don't want to be alone." Red gave the idea a brief

amount of contemplation, but then after observing the sad expression on his girlfriend's face he knew at that point he couldn't disappoint her. "Of course, my love." Suddenly

another slighty more uncomfortable question came to his mind. "Silver, where should I sleep?" he inquired. Luckily, his girlfriend could read him like a book. "Well, we could

sleep together in my bed." she replied knowing that he wouldn't take advantage of her hospitality. "I'm not going to make you sleep on the couch when you're doing me this

favor out of the goodness of your heart." "Alright." Red said in a sweet voice. "Thank you for agreeing to stay over to keep me company." said Silver giving Red a hug. Red

returned the gesture. "No problem, thanks for not making me sleep on the couch." Red replied. Silver looked at Red directly in his chocolate brown eyes and Red looked right

back at Silver directly in her teal blue eyes. Then they shared a beak to beak kiss. Once they parted from the kiss Silver spoke up. "Come on." she said as she pulled Red by

the wing. "Let's go to bed." "Alright." replied Red as he nodded in agreement. "Lead the way." With that he followed her to the bedroom and the two of them went off into a

peaceful sleep.

Bomb was nearly home. "Jesus, why did Chuck have to go and ruin the outing with his jealousy induced outburst?" he wondered as he opened and closed the door. "That's the

behavior of a child." Suddenly he had second thoughts about his play in the activity. "On the other wing though, why did I have go on and ask such a stupid question that was

possibly the igniter for his behavior." Then, he gave himself a thought that everyone at his age should know about. "What the hell am I thinking, it was a just a question." he

told himself. "Chuck could've just told me that he'd rather not discuss it, and then I would've said okay I understand." With that he entered his home, spent the rest of day at

his house and went to bed sticking to his conclusion.

Once again writer's block, but happy belated to my sister and myself!
