No one was listed as Mackenzie's next of kin, so the doctors had no one to call.

Sam had been trying to get a hold of Mackenzie for several hours and she wasn't answering the phone. He was getting very worried. He looked up the number for Mackenzie's local police department. They advised him to call the area hospitals. If that turned up nothing they advised him to file a missing persons report. Sam had just called the third hospital.

"Napa Memorial Hospital." The woman who picked up the phone said. "How may I direct your call?"

"I was wondering if you had a patient there by the name of Mackenzie Connor."

"Please hold." Sam was on hold for about two minutes. "Are you a relative sir?"

"I'm the father of her child."

"What's your name?"

"Sam Ratsch."

"Please hold, I'll transfer you."

Sam was on hold for the next five minutes.

"Hello Mr. Ratsch, I'm doctor Mont." "I understand your calling about Mackenzie Connor?"

"Yes."

"Can you please come in?" "I would rather not discuss this over the phone."

"I can but I'm in Connecticut." "I won't be able to be there for at least six hours."

Sam was finally able to get to the hospital at a little after midnight. He was horrified when he was told he needed to go to the ICU. When he got there the doctor saw him.

"Mr. Ratsch?" She asked.

"Yes."

"I'm doctor Mont."

"What's going on?"

"Mackenzie was brought in unconscious and bleeding." "We were able to stop the bleeding but, while she was bleeding her water broke." "We had to perform a C-Section to save the baby."

"Is she alive?"

"Yes." "However she's in the NICU." "She's in an incubator, only one pound, seven ounces." "Her lungs aren't fully developed."

"Will she be ok?"

"We'll have to wait and see." "It's touch and go at this point."

"What about Mackenzie?"

"The sudden loss of blood has caused her to fall into a coma."

"Will she be alright?"

"That's also touch and go at this point." "Do you have a name picked out for your daughter?"

"Riley Ann Ratsch."

"If you would like to see her the NICU is down the hall to your left."

Sam went to go see the baby. He couldn't get over how tiny and fragile she looked.

"Daddy's here Riley Ann." Sam said. "I love you." She turned her head and opened her eyes. "You have my eyes." He said with tears in his eyes. "You're so beautiful." "Mommy's going to be fine and so will you." "You'll both be home soon."

Sam went to Mackenzie's room.

"I'm here Mackenzie." He said taking her hand. "I'm here." "We have a beautiful baby girl." "She's in an incubator but I know she'll be fine." "You have to wake up so you can see her." "We're a family now and we need you." A few tears fell as he began to cry. "Come back to us, come back to me." "Please." "I love you."
