She looked so peaceful, her eyes firmly shut as if they would never open again, he prayed they would. Joining her in unconsciousness seemed so inviting but he knew he should keep his eyes open but they had other ideas. Against his better judgement he joined her in the vast darkness but not before taking a final look at her beautiful form slumped elegantly against the door.

Two hours, two of the longest hours they had ever experienced. That was what it felt like for the five people standing in the office. All but two of all the available CSIs sent to process the explosion site had arrived back at CSI just over two hours ago after spending eleven long hours sifting through ash and dirt. The two CSIs in question had literally ran to their vehicle when they had been told they could leave for the night after what had turned out to be a forty-two hour shift for them.

Detective Taylor stood in front of Stella, Flack, Hawkes and Hammerbeck. All four of them had witnessed Danny and Lindsay get into the car and drive off into the night and were still at the lab waiting for their friends and colleagues safe return.

"I had some officers go round to their apartments, there isn't any sign of them." Flack told Mac grimly.

"So they haven't been back here and they haven't been home, they could be anywhere."

"Adam's tracking Danny's car as we speak." Stella told the group trying to remain positive.

"There must be something wrong, they would have told us if they had got side-tracked." Hawkes voiced his concerns to the group.

"Not necessarily, I have Lindsay's phone and I'm sure I heard Danny muttering something about his battery dying before." Hammerbeck said placing Lindsay's silver flip phone on the table.

"They've just worked one hell of a long shift with hardly any break time, should Danny have been driving in that state?" Stella questioned interrupting everyone else's thoughts as to why Sid would have Lindsay's phone.

"No, all of us had only been on our twelfth hour, one of us should have driven both of them home." Mac admitted.

"I offered them a ride but Danny had to take his own car to the scene because of the two CSI vehicles in the garage and he wanted to drive it back, Lindsay seemed to want to go with him." Flack informed them.

"Luckily that means they don't have any evidence with them." Mac told no one in particular.

"Do you think they got in an accident?" Stella asked what everyone else was thinking.

"I haven't heard anything on the scanner." Flack told her, not managing to stop her or anyone else in the office from worrying.

A knock on the door pulled them away from imagining different but equally horrific situations that Danny and Lindsay could be in.

"I've got a location on Danny's car." Adam told them not leaving the doorway.

The group followed Adam to where he had been working.

"The car is stopped just over a mile away from the explosion site." He told them.

"They were heading in the wrong direction, they should have been following the road north." Mac told them, pointing to the screen.

--- Flashback ---

The road ahead was getting harder to concentrate on and it wasn't just because he was more than a bit tired.

Next to him Lindsay was sleeping, her hair covering her face, Danny couldn't wish for more than to have the country girl sleeping next to him, even if it wasn't in his own bed. He couldn't help but take his eyes off the endless road in front of him and glance at her sleeping form every so often; it was the only thing keeping him awake

Soon even the thoughts of her weren't keeping his tiredness at bay and the road ahead soon seemed very distant, he was barely aware of his hands on the wheel.

The next thing he was aware of was the beeping of a horn, the screeching of tyres and the blinding glare from headlights.
