Chapter 2
Katie's Diagnosis
Rubble sat there as Katie shone a small light in his eye as Katie examined it.
"Yep, he has a concussion all right," she announced, before turning to Ryder and asking to speak to him in another room.
As soon as they were in another room, Ryder asked, "What is it," asked Ryder.
"I'm sure he's going to be all right, but I would just like to have him seen in hospital just to be safe," expressed the worried vet.
Meanwhile, back in the examination room, Rubble sat on the table nervously, wondering what his owner and vet were talking about.
"Anyway, I will have to take a few measurements and the like for the hospital staff so they can prepare the proper cocktail for him."
"Anything else?" asked Ryder
"Obviously, we need to decide which animal hospital we're making the arrangements with," answered Katie.
"Where is the nearest one?"
"Adventure City," answered the pup pup pediatrician.
"I'm not sure," began Ryder. "I mean, the show and the movie have a different continuity, and having those two episodes with Liberty created a bit of a continuity error, and since this series seems to fall into a third continuity entirely, wouldn't the Adventure City route just create more inconsistencies?" explained Ryder. "For example, the back story given to Chase back in Vulnerable is totally different from the back story given to him in the movie."
"The next two closest are in Gear Box Grove and Big Swirl Island in Yoknockoffpatawpha county," explained Katie.
"Adventure City it is then, anything else?"
"It is not safe for him to be on the job in his current state," she explained.
"Done," answered Ryder. "So, I'll go get him, inform him on what's going on, and I will make the calls to Mayor Goodway, and Liberty." Katie nodded back, and the two headed back into the examination room where Rubble was waiting for them.
Rubble looked up as the two walked into the room. "Well Rubble, you're going to the hospital," informed Ryder.
"To-today?" asked the bulldog nervously.
"No, tomorrow or the day after, "explained his owner. "In any case, I will need to give you a break from missions for the time being. Remember Rubble, this is not a punishment, this is so you don't get hurt. Think of it like being sick."
Rubble nodded in understanding.
"Now, I need to make a few calls. Now stay here and wait patiently for me."
Ryder then returned to the other room and dialed Mayor Goodway.
"Hello Ryder," greeted the mayor.
"Hello Mayor," Ryder greeted back, "anyway, Rubble will be unavailable for active duty for the next several days. There has been a workplace accident, and it is simply unsafe for him to be on active duty until he is better recovered."
"Poor Rubble, I wish him a speedy recovery," sympathized the mayor.
"Furthermore, I will be unavailable tomorrow or the day after."
The mayor nodded in understanding. "Wait," she thought, "what if the PAW Patrol is needed?"
"Then Chase will fill in for me, and if need be, Rocky will fill in for Rubble," explained the boy, who groaned at the knowledge that Rocky would be less than thrilled to work with non-recycled materials. After hanging up with the mayor, he immediately called Liberty and informed her of the situation. "Anyway, could you help us get to the animal hospital?" he asked
Liberty eagerly nodded. "I know the city like the back of my paw: uptown, downtown, crosstown. I'll get you where you need to go," pledged the dachshund.
Ryder thanked her, and then hung up. The two then proceeded back to the examination room where Rubble was waiting for them. Upon arriving, Katie took his vitals along with several measurements, recording each detail carefully. Afterward, Katie went to contact the hospital whilst Ryder took Rubble back to the Lookout.
