POV 1 Effect Veiler

Ok, the World Legacy in Shadow has been founded recenty, but it is close enough to Curran's village, we go to the Searchlightman Station. It is guarded by Bayerock Dragon and Zalamander Catalyzer.

„What are you looking for?", Zalamander demands.

„We have found that Divine Grave Northwemko, does not live up to her epithet.", I state.

„And?", Bayerock asks.

„Anyway to take her out?", Hitodenchak asks, „Not literally, but at least take one kid from her? But it's probably not only the mommy that's bad, it's the daddy too. Uhm, we mean that she is really mean to her kids."

„So that's your goal.", Zalamander says.

„Well, duh, we're at Searchlightman Station, you are some sort of police. Or should we hire someone like Yaguramaru the Armored Ninja?", Robolady asks.

„Weren't you the one with money problems?", Pinecono asks, „You probably shouldn't even joke about an option this expensive."

„Also, The city with the overly gloomy name of „A world Shrouded in Darkness" is very far away, we'd need to ride on Tilted Entrainment.", Acorno adds.

„Well, we can help you, but the one who has all the dirt that we need to take action is the Scandall Snapper.", says Zalamander.

„And you're this certain he has it?", I ask.

„Yes.", Bayerock answers.

„And we can duel him for it?", Hitodenchaks asks.

„Yup.", Zalamander answers.

„You needed to ask that one?", Bayerock wonders.

„Okay, but what can they do if we have everything?", Pinecono questions.

„Put Northwemko behind bars or at least make sure that Curran gets to be away from her permanently.", I say, „If you need more detail, we need to be sure that you are the one that we tell all the dirty details to."

But Scandal Snapper just having that info and putting it behind a dueling outcome is troubling in its own right. But we have to take that risk now. Curran is the reason we're together and we're gonna stick together and get her back.

„Now, where do we find the Snapper.", Hitodenchak asks, „Please. We might be in a hurry."

„Just a few buildings to the left.", Bayerock responds.

„That is suprisingly simple, but I bet we somehow need to have a boss fight against her parents.", Roboyarou says.

„There's also the „Boss fight" against Scandal Snapper himself.", I point out.

So, we move those simple buildings to the left and see Doomblaze Fiend Overlord Despairacion and Blaze Fiend Overlords Beelucitaroth sitting there as guardians.

Maybe it actually won't be very easy at all.

„Don't worry about them.", Acorno says, „I heard they are one of those monsters that look big and strong, but usually avoid showing their card selves."

„Oh, you two have no ideas where we Maximums even come from, do you?", Beeluciraroth asks with your typical supervillains laugh. Let's hope this is just some distraction tactic and worry abotu it later.

„I feel like that would be a very different can of worms and a whole other adventure.", Pinecono says, „Let's not agitate them further."

„So, you are guarding Scandal Snapper?", I ask.

„Yeah, we have some little side gig here.", Despairacion says, „I'll play Blue Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon and he plays Neo Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Too bad there's no Neo Blue-Eyes White Dragon."

„Was that supposed to be a joke?", Pinecono asks.

„They're probably going to use an excuse like „we traded joking skills for dueling skills" or something else.", Acorno guesses.

„Let's get to the point without much delay.", I insist, „Do we have to duel you first, or just Snapper? Are you as sketchy as you look or aren't you?"

Belluci (I assume this would be Curran's nickname for the first one) whispers into his partner's ear„I told you, that while this look would be intimidating it will make us very untrustworthy."

„We're in THIS city. People will learn to not judge by looks, since it can be quite separate from threat and betray level nowadays.", Despairson whispers back.

„Anyway, yes. Only one victory is required, but you'll have to converse a little with Snapper first.", Guitaroth says.

Then they let us enter without further trouble. But I knock to make sure.

„And add one „Last Hope Numbers" into this deck-, oh, right, you WERE knocking. Alright, what do you need to know."

„We are suspecting that Divine Grace Northwemko isn't what her name promises.", I say, „not to her child Ebon Magician Curran at least."

„Hm. How would you even start to suspect that?", Snapper asks, „Are you randomly accusing monsters that don't look evil of being evil, just so that you can make a huge story?"

„We would never.", Hitodenchak says.

„Absolutely not.", Roboyarou adds.

„As for the actual story, she saved me from an ambush of Raviel's ex-minions. They really lost all of their strength after his defeat, but she couldn't have known. Well, to be exactly, the duel was me and Roboyarou and Curran, against Gil Garth, Byser Shocker and another one that I forgot, ah, Newdoria was the third one. Anyway, we have decided to form a small adventurers group, but then we saw her being tracked down by a Sandgambler who did use cruel methods to get her back to her parents, but we initially didn't believe that they could be bad people, so we made her go back to Northwemko."

„To be exact, we assumed they didn't check who searched for Curran because they were worried, but maybe they didn't check because they only cared on a superficial level.", Hitodenchak says.

„And the mean thing that Sandgambler did was trying to shoot her.", Pinecono helpfully adds.

„Hm. Not checking who looks for your lost child is sadly common.", Snapper says, „Oh, I remember that one story about Dark Prophet..."

„I almost wish he would've called out our stupidity in still trusting Northwemko.", Acorno mutters.

„I can help you get some form of justice. With no pay, after you defeat me.", Snapper says, „But just against two of you. Otherwise I would get Voidvelgr Apocalypse and Love Magus -Ciela and you want a quick finish, don't you?"

„Yes we do.", I say, „The two plants and the starfish dueled against Northwemko, so it's me and Robo against you."

„With doubled hand size for me.", Snapper says.

Scandal Snapper (4000lp) vs Effect Veiler (4000lp) and Robolady (4000lp)

Snapper drawing looks like cards being printed out by an invisible camera inside of the ground.

„I start with Ready Fusion, for only 1000lp (Snapper LP: 4000-3000) to summon the level 6 non-effect Fusion of Punished Eagle. Then I normal summon Gagaga Magician and uses its effect to give himself a level of 6. Then I overlay both of them for Number 25 Force Focus. I activate Ritual Foregone to pay 1000 Life Points (Snapper LP: 3000-2000) and summon Evigishki Mind Augus."

„Thank Obelisk that he escaped the forbidden realm AND only gains the effect to shuffle into the GY when Ritual Summoned.", Pinecono sighs of relief.

„But monsters only get to escape the forbidden realm if other strong monsters evade it.", Acorno points out.

„Yeah, if it wasn't just cool fodder in this scene, I would've been really pissed about wasting time to learn forbidden arts.", Snapper says, „And now I use Instant Fusion paying a third 1000lp (Snapper LP: 2000-1000) and Fusion Summon Tearalaments Kitkalos. That's also just fancy fodder. I equip this one with Synchro Boost, so that its level increases from 5 to 6 and overlay it with Mind Augus to summon another Force Focus."

„Wait, let me guess. Number 25 now has a similar amount of upgrades to Utopia, doesn't it?", I ask.

„You're quite smart. How did you not recognize that Raviels former minions have lost their strength?", Snapper asks.

„Those kind of are two different topics.", Acorno says.

„Both are about estimating something about threats.", Snapper says, „Also, you will probably have to do a little bit of fighting beyond me, or you'll fall into a Traptrix Holetaea."

Curran would've said, „So you're saying we would be ending as a bad joke?", with a few swearwords tossed in.

„Anyways, one of them will become Full Force Focus S via Argent Chaos Force and the other one will become Full Force Focus S via Chaos Xyz Change, which allows me to add Argent Chaos Force back to my hand. Then I set three cards and end my turn."

„I'm gonna take a Wild Guess and say that Argent Chaos Force still is in his hand.", says Roboyarou.

„Oh, who informed you, Gold Pride – Leon? That one was far too obvious and even being right won't help you that much."

„Is he a drill instructor or something? I though we had to duel him for info?", Pinecono wonders, „and not as a training exercise."

„I start my turn with Bento Synchro, which does the same as Instant Fusion, but for Synchro, just like the name says. (Effect Veiler LP: 4000-3000)"

„Full Force Focus can detach one overlay unit to negate the effects of any card on the field, provided I have at least as few LP as I have now.", Snapper counters.

„I normal summon Double Veiler and-"

„Nope. I negate again. There is not even a soft once per turn on this one.", Snapper says smugly.

„Too bad I don't have Billowing Veiler right now. I use an Upstart Goblin, will you really use the last negate of-"

„Yes. You lose a card from me negating it.", he says.

„I'm fine stumbling a little if my partner gets to walk, but you're gonna have to try even har-"

„Oh, and I use the trap overlay connection to restore another unit to Full Force Focus. And if you increase my Life Points somehow, I may pay a thousand of them to recover this card."

„Then negate my Raigeki!", I yell.

„Will do that.", he says.

„I activate Microwave Xyz, which is Bento Synchro, but only for Rank 3, but it at least attached itself as overlay unit. I summon Trick Veiler." (Effect Veiler LP: 3000-2000)

„Oh, why would you do that?", Snapper wonders. „It can only detach Veilers to use their effects as her own."

„Well, I doubt it's just so that you can't negate it with your other two face-down cards.", Hitodenchak says, „Frankie has got this!"

„Yes, I use Rank-Up Magic Veil of Force! I turn Trick Veiler into the Rank 10 Knowledge and also attach this Magic as overlay unit! Now I use Knowledge Veilers effect to draw one card for every overlay unit and then detach one! Oh, and one card I drew was this, the Ritual Spell Time to Unveil!"

„Of course she would have all summoning methods.", Hit mutters.

„Yes, she might even master Maximum and Link Summoning sometime.", Snapper says, „Sadly I have no other response to this."

„I tribute my Level 6 Scar Veiler for the equally leveled Bride Veiler! (DEF: 2500)"

„...you weren't on a messy wedding, were you?", Snapper asks, but I choose to ignore this *ucking bad joke.

„Bride Veiler makes it so that you can use monster abilities, traps and spells only once per turn.", I say.

„Which only takes hold after you've summoned her, so the four times I used the effect of Number C25 do not matter.", Snapper says, „As well as the one trap card."

„But I can still attack your number with my 3300 ATK Knowledge Veiler!", I declare.

„I detach an overlay unit from Full Force Focus S to take your Knowledge Veiler."

„I use another effect of Bride Veiler, I negate and destroy a card that tries to steal mine.", I counter.

„No elopement here!", Ace says.

„I now am able to use my face-down Numeron Truth to turn Numcer C25 Full Force Focus S into Full Force Focus Spektrum! Just like how S works similar to Number 7 Big Eye, Spektrum works similar to Dyson Sphere, meaning that any attack on this one are pointless."

„At least he acknowledges that he and the Utopia line had some effects similar to previous numbers in their so-called upgrade.", Hit says.

„I still can attack the Camera without an S! Hehe...", I say.

„That's all I need for this turn."

„Will mimicking her immature quirks help you here?", Snapper wonders.

„We only know if we try.", Pipsqueak says, „And wait, you know Curran?"

„Vanquish Soul – VS Razen mentioned her to me once.", Snapper says.

„And now it's my *ucking turn!", Robotto shouts, „Since you control a monster and I don't, I special Summon Toon Cyber Dragon. Kinda *hitty that I couldn't thin my deck with Toon Table of Contents, but it's enough to this *anker. I tribute it to summon King Roboyarou (ATK: 2400) since you have monsters, he gets to summon two Roboladies from my deck, I choose the regular one and her tuner form Frequency Robolady!"

„You see, we don't just have one specialist of multiple summon methods!", Pipsqueak says.

„Uhm, Robotto was only about to Synchro Summon. Regular tribute monsters aren't as significant.", Hitodenchak says, „and some of us have several summon types, but they are more similar to random assortments than archetypes."

„Ah, *crew suprise! Let's intimidate him with our awesomeness!", Ace says.

„Yeah, and I will tune those to, so that I can summon Hyper Robolady! Since you have monsters, my tuners to nothing, but I don't need to right now. My Hyper Robolady can attack you directly, completely bypassing your Dyson Sphere ripoff!"

„I use Rank-Up Magic Devotion Force to power up Spektrum even more! And this time, instead of every attack you try being negated, Devotion Force, well, FORCES you to attack the summoned monster! I rank-up into Number 25 Infinite Force Focus! (ATK: 3300) This one either reflects or doubles the damage. What is your response here?"

„Nothing. (Robotto LP: 4000-2800) But after taking the damage I have a total of four cards to set. And at the start of the turn I use Pulse Mines to put all of your monsters into the defensive."

„And I trade Bride Veiler's Lockdown. Instead of limiting you to one trap card per turn, I limit you to summoning one monster per turn."

„Here's the deal: Pule Mines does not prevent me from putting the monsters back into attack position immediately, which is what I will do. Then I equip it with ZW Hydra Heads from my hand. I attack Knowledge Veiler."

„Oh? I have just the card for this situation! You triggered Really Eternal Rest! Infinite Force Focus is destroyed since it is equipped with something.", Robotto counters.

„Meaningless. Hydra Heads effect activates. On the field it is a spell card, so it bypasess Bride Veilers restriction. Before the equipped monster is destroyed, I can perform a rank-down in two different directions, one monster receives Hydra Head and the other gets the equipped xyz monster as material. I summon Number 25 Force Focus Chip and Number F0 Past Focus."

„And since this is summoning two monsters it also circumvents Bride Veiler's new lockdown. *hoot.", Pipsqueak curses and yes, I do think that Curran would have censored Shoot into hoot with her sense of humor.

„I cannot circumvent the lockdown on monster effects a second time, so it is your turn now."

„In my turn, I trade the lockdown on spell cards against one that only enables you to damage us a single time per turn. I use Knowledge Veiler's effect a second time, only drawing 2 cards here. I use Preparation of Rites, adding the level 4 Truth Veiler to my hand and recovering Time to Unveil from my GY. I activate it, tributing two Extra Veiler for this Ritual Summoning."

„I use the effect of Force Focus Chip. I detach an overlay unit to negate a monsters effect and gain 600 ATK per level. Your Brider Veiler's effect is gone and Chips ATK rises to 4200.", Snapper interrupts, „Now I can use more effects against you."

„I use Truth Veilers effect to tribute her and summon Veilers of equal level from my deck."

„Like Ninjitsu Art of Duplication.", Snapper points out, „not an effect I would expect to be plagiarized. Even less obvious than Elemental Hero Mariner or Exploder Dragonwing. Though those two are a story for another day."

„Only it's much more useful in my deck than in the original. And I we'll go go the simple route of summoning the level 6 Scar Veiler. This allows me to reverse battle outcomes against your Chip."

„Then you better take a look at the effect of Past Focus, If I negated an effect of my enemy, I can fill my field with reflection tokens that have 2400 DEF and reflect all battle damage. Two reflections cancel each other out.", Snapper says.

„If we could turn them into attack positions, the cancelling each other out would be on our side.", Hit mutters.

„Truth Veiler is a tuner herself, so I'm just gonna synchro summon a little. I summon the level 10 Holy Veiler. (ATK: 1450) This monster has half the stats of ally of justice Field Marshal, but allows each Veiler monster on my field to double its battle damage, amount of attacks and ATK. If I choose to double battle damage, they also gain piercing. But it also does something simple, and much more direct. I give my Holy Veiler the ability to bypass your monsters and attack you directly."

„It was short, but you managed to make it feel like a long and arduous duel.", Robotto says.

„And he crammed in a suprising amount of Force Focus upgrades. That's what Curran will comment once we have her back!", Pipsqueak says.

„Curran would also point out, that he didn't bring a counterpart for Utopia Double.", Ace says, „though what would the respective card be? Overlay Regen? Empty Fishing?"

„I have left out quite a bit of the prefixless counterparts, but it would be silly to name them. Some of my other interns, like Executie Flame, Voidvelgr Protostar, Red Riser, Transamu Raiker, Vanquish Soul – VS Panthera and Voidalfar Heavenstar keep telling me that.", Scandal Snapper says.

„Now, spill the dirt on Curran's parents or just about anything that could help us bring her back!", I insist! (Curran might capitalize the full stop at the end of a dialogue marker. We wouldn't be able to know)

„I wouldn't break my end of the bargain, just because the smalltalk following the duel gets long. The truth is, she did a few um, extra forbidden things to learn the forbidden arts she has now. Deals with Criminals like Gold Pride- Star Leon, Prectclimb of the Deadly Dirge and Rogue of Archfiend to obtain the secret book of forbidden realms and make it a little easier. You can get the Searchligtmen and Spacetime police to act if you have the document and go to the places written on there.", he says and hands one to us.

„Well, we are trying to stop child abuse, so I guess this is fine, too.", I say.

„You better take what you can get, mate.", Snapper says, „Take it to the aforementioned place, if you haven't been there already. But you won't get to the final battle in an instant. You're gonna have to dig a little bit deeper into the places seedy underbelly and maybe act like you just want to meet her again, because you miss her and not because you want them to be punished for something. Maybe get another mini-duel out of them. Even then the punishment will be difficult."

„*sigh*, well, it certainly wasn't an easy duel against Northwemko and this probably wasn't even her at full power.", Hit says.

„So our tip is just: Do what you did previously, but better and go take a look at people that definetly know her crimes.", Robo says, „Well, and the father's crimes too."

„Yes. „Simple" as that.", Snapper says.

„Maybe we should take a look first at what this document says.", Pipsqueak says, „It will probably have the exact details written on it."

„Do we have to read it in here?", I ask.

„You can take it outside with you, but it's not only heroes that would want to know about her wrongdoings, so I'd strongly advise it.", Snapper says.

I open the document.

Go to Space Time Police and Searchlightman, after hearing the truth from the following people: Crystron Rosenix, Dark Scorpion Meanae the Thorn, Tri-Horned Dragon, Card Trader, Sand Gambler and Genex Blastfan.

„So, if we duel them into submission, they will all talk more?", Hit wonders.

„You know, why aren't you looking more into this thing yourself?", I ask, I thought Searchlightman was a bit more legitimat, he could also be doing it."

„Well, STP is the legitimate one. We just dirty our hands -without lying of course- if they need to make a moral sacrifice.", Snapper says, „But sending people to the shadow realm is rarely efficient!"

„But we have to fight Sangambler.", Pinecono looks worried.

„And travel all the way back to the card store.", Acorno moans.

„Should be the least of our worries when it comes to saving our friend.", Robolady says, „But I'd rather not meet that weird Tri-Horned Dragon again."

„You know him too?", Hit asks.

„Before you tell me just how weird he exactly was, should we meet him with someone who knows him?", I ask.

„Maybe you should plan travel routes first.", Snapper says, „Though I know a Gold Pride Lady who could move you around."

„Yeah, I'd rather not use an ominous tourguide again.", Hit says.

„And I'd say nobody should meet Tri-Horned Dragon twice, we'll set Effect Veiler on it.", Robolady says.

„Then maybe I for Blastfan.", Pinecono volunteers.

„Since he guns down Kids, I'd go to Sandgambler.", Robolady suggests.

„Then it's me for Rosenix or Meanae. But one will have to go double.", Hit suggests, „Don't know whether they are in the same town and stuff. Can your Gold Pride Lady find those guys too?"

„Oh, for those fights, I may help out, as I had my dalliances with Meanae the Thorn. But probably not much more.", Snapper answers, „And I can send you their ways."

„Well, then let's go asap and save Curran!", I declare.
