NINE MONTHS LATER
Luis' van still sits on top of the roof. A pair of youngsters move toward the vehicle.
"Are you sure about this Jorge?" asked the teenager as they walk toward it.
"Chill, Joe, this cars been up here probably since the snap, nobody's gonna care." said Jorge as he pulls out a tire iron. But they both stop when they notice the quantum tunnel resting a few feet behind the vehicle.
"What is that?" asked Joe reaching his hand toward the control panel on top of it.
"Don't touch it!" warned Jorge too late. As Joe hits the toggle switch. The Quantum tunnel shakes as it whirls to life and a golden light begin to emit from the thing.
"We gotta get out of here!" shouts Jorge grabbing his friend and race toward the roof exit.
Scott lang comes flying through the Quantum tunnel and lands on the hard cement roof. In his ant man suit, he removes his helmet breathing hard. His spine crying out in pain.
He gets up looking around for Hank, Hope or Janet but they were gone. It was night time and he was hungry and annoyed why did they leave him behind. Without a phone he had no way of contacting Luis or anyone.
"Oh crap, this was my night to take Cassie to the movies." Scott says out loud to himself. "Thanks Hank where ever you are!" Hank probably still didn't forgive him for the whole Civil War thing as Scott had thought but Hope he was sure they had patched things up.
With a shake of his head, Scott loaded the Quantum Tunnel into the back of the van and drove off. If Scott wasn't worried about getting home to Cassie he might have noticed that the San Francisco streets were more empty and quiet than normal.
Scott raced up the stairs to the front door and pounded on the door. "Its me, I know I'm late but I'm here now, and Hank pranked me or something left me on the roof and I'm really hungry if you guys had any leftovers would be."
Cassie rips the door open staring at her father in shock.
"Hey Cassie, sorry I'm - oh wow you gotten taller in a" Cassie jumps into her father wrapping her arms around him. "Dad!" Cassie cries. Scott wraps his daughter up in his arms, his voice soothing, "Cassie, honey whats wrong? I know I' late but - I won't be late again I promise."
"Cassie what's - oh my god, Scott!" Scott barely had time to look up to see his ex - wife before she joined in making it a group hug.
"okay - what - Not that I don't like this love but what is going on?"
They tell him everything about the Snap, how half the world disappeared which included Maggie's husband Paxton. The six months of Emergency broadcasts, military involved in assisting in policing the world, the months without access to power and water and worst of all the deaths, plane accidents, the car crashes. Scott took it all in devastated.
Scott told them about the Quantum tunnel, how about he was exploring the quantum realm when the snap happened.
"I'm just happy we have you back." Maggie said tapping Scott's leg before getting up to get the tea.
"Eight months in the Quantum realm, how was that?" Cassie asked curious, tears still brimming in her eye.
"Well thats the thing Cass, it wasn't eight months for me but like three minutes." Scott said after thinking about his experience in the surreal reality.
Then it came like thunder. "I need to talk to the Avengers."
Natasha Romanoff was listneing to Rhodey's report of his search for the missing Clint Barton.
" found a room full of bodies outside Juarez. Cartel guys. Guns still in their pants." Rhodey said.
Natasha felt a twinge in her heart. "It was bad Nat, almost as bad as the Punisher's crime scenes when he was still around."
"Could be a rival hit." Natasha tried to play off the distressing images that was being displayed on her screen of the crime scene.
Rhodey shook his head, "You know its him, Nat, Barton's been on the war path for the past five months. It was fine before but there was an undercover agent with those cartel men, the thing is the authorities don't know its him, they think its a new guy called the Ronin."
It took Natasha a moment to find her voice. "Find out where's he going next."
Rhodey nods, signing off. Natasha sits there, then crumples.
"I'd offer to cook you dinner but you seem sad enough already." Said Steve walking into the room still in his Captain America uniform covered in grime, oil, and blood.
"How was Seattle?" asked Nat wiping away her tears.
Steve removes his mask, and sits down before placing his shield on the desk. "The Serpent Society put up a fight but I was able to take them down and lock them up in the raft."
"Thats good one less terrorist group out there." Natasha tries to compartmentalize the Clint situation. Steve reaches a hand out to Nat and holds her hand.
"We'll find him and bring him home." Steve said.
Nat shook her head. "This, the Avengers was never a home for him, with what he lost..."
"He may not consider us family but we do." Steve said.
A ping goes off tearing Nat and Steve from their conversation. Natasha swipes on the screen to a CCTV displaying Scott Lang waving at the camera with Luis' van behind him.
"Hello? Is anyone home? This is, uh, Scott Lang? We met a few years ago. At the airport?" Scott shouts.
"I-I thought he was snapped." Steve said getting up from his chair.
"Where the fuck has he been these past few months." growled Nat happy and pissed to see a friend was okay. "Friday, open front gates."
The two heroes rush to the entrance where Scott Lang was running to. Nat pulls out her gun and points it at Scott.
"Whoa!" Scott said skidding to a stop. "I thought this was going to be a happy reunion."
"It is." Said Steve looking at Nat in shock before it dissolved into understanding, "but we have a lot of enemies who are good at taking and mimicking others identities. So we need to do a few tests." Scott nodded his head.
Scott lay uncomfortable in what looked like an iron lung as a dozen lights flashed and scanned him.
"Friday report." Asked Nat staring at Scott.
"All test conclusively reveal Scott Lang is not a Skrull, Space Phantom, a puppeted dead body."
"You thought I might be a dead body being puppeted by who?" Scott asked.
Steve shrugged before helping Scott out of the Bioreader.
Nat came forward and hugged Scott, "Where the hell have you been?"
Scott explains how Hope's mom was stuck in the quantum realm for decades , how they rescued her and how Hank sent Scott in to get more of the healing particles needed to help Ghost.
"Damn, It must've been a long nine months." Nat said.
Scott Lang turns to them excited, "Thats the thing, for me it was like nine minutes."
"Okay?" Steve said.
"Time works differently in the Quantum realm!" Scott cheers.
"And?" Nat asked.
"And, what if we could navigate the Quantum realms and exit at certain points of time."
"What?" Steve said.
"Time Travel." Scott said.
"Wait, so was Janet the same age as she was when she went in too?" Nat asked. Scott stopped, that was weird, it seemed like she was the appropriate age she would have been if she hadn't gone into the quantum realms. Maybe he was in a different area?
"Well no." Scott answered.
"So your time travel idea is totally bogus." Nat sighs leaning back.
"Not quite Nat," Steve interupts "I mean Kang, Eddie's daughter Natalie, both time traveled to our time so maybe we can use the tunnel to do the same."
"Hell yeah, we go back to when Thanos has the gems and beat the crap out of him."
Nat thinks it over. If someone told her nine years ago when she was going undercover as Stark's assistant she'd be time travelling she would punch them in the face and send them to the Ravencroft institute. Now not only did she know it was possible but it was finally her turn to do it.
"Alright but we need Stark."
