Macragge's Honor, transit through the Immaterium.

Fulgrim's PoV.

I had been on Macragge's honor for some time. I had managed to make a better sword, and my quarter's were much closer to my standards than when the trip started. I was also completely caught up on the information Guilliman had coerced Cawl into telling him about my loyalist sons. As it turns out, I had at least two chapters. The Sons of the Phoenix had somehow hid themselves as sons Rogal Dorn and the Death Eagles were hiding as sons of Corvus Corax (though doing far worse at it). There might be more, but there were enough chapters that no one could really now for certain.

After I had the information that I needed, I made my decision. We would gather the scattered Sons of the Phoenix first. My sons had scattered themselves across the galaxy, and I would meet the first group of this chapter on Kulth. Evidently they had gotten separated while on crusade, so the first challenge would be getting the two companies on Kulth on my side. Once I had those two, me and Guilliman decided that it would be easier to convince my sons at the Nachmund Gauntlet, and from there the rest of the chapter. It was a good plan, though I must admit that I was nervous. I didn't feel like I was up to the task, and I knew that Guilliman was concerned that I might turn traitor again. Afterall, he chose the one place that my sons weren't fighting the Great Enemy as my first test.

Kulth, Segmentum Obscurus

Fulgrim's PoV.

The second that I landed I could tell things would be more difficult than planned. My custodes guards stayed back to see how I'd handle the situation, and from the vantage point I had taken it wasn't looking good. I had landed just before a battle started. The left flank was in the process of collapsing, and the rest of the army hadn't noticed yet. Running down the hill, I grabbed the highest ranking marine on the left that I could find. From my research, the red helmet showed they were a lieutenant. "Fall back, and regroup at those hills," I ordered. The lieutenant didn't even question me, and quickly ordered what was left of the company to fall back to the hills. Luckily, they managed an orderly retreat. Unluckily, they had lost their captain and the other lieutenant in the surprise attack, along with most of their marines.

Things didn't get better from there. The other company didn't get the order to retreat, and their captain had just charged the largest Ork he could find. Running back down the hill, I was just barely able to save the captain from meeting the same fate as the other company's captain. Luckily, the Ork was nowhere near the level of a primarch, and I quickly dealt with them. I then told this captain to retreat, and he didn't resist. He even had the order carried along to the guardsmen on the right flank. Regrouping on the hills, the Orks went to fight the rebels and themselves, giving the guardsmen and marines time to regroup and start work on defensive positions. Of course, before we did anything, my son wanted some answers, and I was more than willing to provide them. While I had expected hostility, I will admit that the attack managed to catch me off guard.

Captain Boranez PoV.

It took me about two seconds to realize that the traitor had me beat. My attack was effortlessly blocked, and within seconds I was disarmed with a power sword held to my throat. "If I were a traitor, then why would I have saved you just then, and why would I not strike you down now?" He asked. Truth be told, I didn't have much of a response to that, but I managed to think one up quickly. "Who knows what goes on in the mind of a traitor?" I snapped back. "A good response, but I doubt that a traitor would do this." Shockingly enough, he lowered his blade and picked up mine. He then handed it back to me. "As I have said, I am your father. No, I am not Rogal Dorn. I understand that this must be disappointing for you, but I swear by my father. I shall not fall again, and you shall not fall like your brothers before you." I didn't have a counterargument. 'What kind of traitor would give me back my weapon?' I thought.

"Very well then. Suppose that I believe you. What do you suggest we do in this situation?" I asked. Looking around, it wasn't looking good. We had brought the 9th company so they could get some much needed experience in what should've been an easy battle, but clearly that had backfired. Most of them had fallen, and it looks like they had lost a lot of the heavy weapons they were supposed to use against the rebel defenses. "Have the guardsmen work on our defenses, and gather all of my sons. Let's start by taking stock of the situation." I quickly relayed the orders, and we found a place for the 9th and 2nd company.

It wasn't good. Most of the 9th company was dead, including Captain Poladas. Luckily, they still had a lieutenant who was quickly promoted. The new captain gathered up the sergeants, and under our fathers watchful eye, he set about reorganizing. Meanwhile, I took stock of my own company. We had lost a lieutenant and a few sergeants, but our command structure was fixed fairly easily. We had lost about 20 marines, which wasn't good, but nowhere near as bad as the 9th. That surprise attack had caught the still fairly new company off guard.

After a while, I had fixed up my company, and sent them to assist the guardsmen in setting up defenses. Walking over to the primarch, I decided to accept that he was probably telling the truth. At least for now. He had finished helping the 9th company, and was talking to their new captain while looking at the enemy forces. "Did you notice that?" He asked when I got to them. "Notice what?" I asked. "That" he responded, pointing. Looking over, it took me a second to see what he was talking about. The rebels had just managed to hold off the Orks, but the attack seems to have opened a weakness in their line.

Fulgrim's PoV.

My son needed some bladework to say the least, but that's something to worry about later. It seems he had decided to trust what I said for now, and that's what mattered. Right now, we had to reorganize for the next assault on the rebel positions. I had been told these rebels would be difficult to beat, and so far they were proving that right. While helping the 9th company put itself back together, I watched as they managed to beat the Orks. I was giving some advice to the 9th company's new captain when I noticed it. "Do you see that?" I asked him, pointing at a part of their line that seemed weaker than the rest. He nodded, and I showed the spot to Captain Boranez when he joined us. It was about time that we struck the rebels again.

I led the charge, of course. Captain Boranez and the 2nd company would charge the weak point in the rebel line, while the guardsmen would hit other points along the rebel line to find any other weak points. Meanwhile, the 9th company stood back, defending the rear and preparing to reinforce us if needed. We charged through the strangely disciplined lasgun fire, but the power of a company of space marines led by their primarch was enough to break the rebel line. As the guards cleaned up the stragglers, 9th company moved in to join us. Watching the retreating rebels, it was fairly easy to see that they had another defensive line prepared. And another one. And yet another one after that. We had won the fight, but it would seem as though the war wasn't over just yet.

Author's Note: That took way longer than it should have. Anyways, here's the next chapter. Hope you all enjoy.
