Title: Just Want to Save You

Summary: While in China, Kim overhears Kai's plan to attack Jack before it happens. She confronts Kai and tries to save Jack, while putting herself in danger. Jack just wants to save Kim, but Kim wants to save Jack.

Author's note: So expanding on the summary, they are both stubborn and want to save each other. Apparently I can't get over the China episode because I keep writing one-shots revolving around that episode. Anyways... I also realized sometimes I stray a little from Kim's canon personality, so I tried to bring that back with this one. She's fiesty and stubborn and doesn't back down from a fight. Also I wrote this whole thing today probably because 1 it was a good idea but 2, I keep trying to write super long one-shots and sometimes I forget they can be just a quick little scene. lol. silly me.

"You're going to do great, Jack," Kim said, trying to hype Jack up.

After he saw Kai, Jack had been shaking with nerves. He was always cool and confident, too confident sometimes in Kim's opinion. He was good at keeping cool on the outside, but Kim always saw through him. He was always suppressing a smirk after sizing up his opponents.

Except with Kai. He was genuinely nervous and Kim wished she could bring back the cocky Jack.

"Kim…"

"I don't care if your grandpa trained him and I don't care what happened between the two of you all those years ago. You came here to do your best and I'll be darned if you don't go out there and show Kai your best. You a great martial artist, way better than me," Kim said earnestly. "I can see that, now you need to let Kai see that."

"Better than you?" Jack teased, catching that little bit of her speech and flashing her a smile that almost reached his eyes.

"Shut up. Go clean yourself up, you stink," Kim said, pushing Jack toward the locker room while waving a hand in front of her nose.

She hoped she got through Jack's thick head. She watched Kai and she knew he was good. But so was Jack. And Jack had improved a lot since he joined the dojo–not that he wasn't good when he started. Kim believed in Jack. He had the honor and drive needed to pull out a win, she knew that and she just needed Jack to know it too.

"So break it before or after you walk in?"

Kim heard the voices echo as they got closer to where she was standing and she pressed herself behind a column, having a feeling whoever was talking wasn't expecting any eavesdroppers.

"Doesn't matter, as long as you do it," that was a voice Kim recognized but couldn't quite place. She peeked her head around just enough and saw Kai, along with a few of his friends dressed in all black, wearing masks pulled up to their foreheads. They were walking towards the locker room where Jack had just gone.

"Just remember, we have to make it seem like I'm there to help him. You'll go in, attack him, I'll come in, save the day. My stupid cousin will be unable to compete, I'll be the hero and winner, and Jack will be none the wiser. Got it?"

Kim's jaw dropped as she realized what Kai was saying. She peeked around the corner again just as Kai's friends pulled their masks down, concealing their faces. Kai gave them a curt nod and they stormed into the locker room.

Kai waited for a minute before following them in.

When the door was opened, Kim heard Jack's cries and grunts of struggling and she was moving before she could stop herself.

She didn't care if it was the boy's locker room, Kai was there to hurt Jack and she couldn't let her best friend get hurt.

Kim ran into the locker room, seeing Jack laying on the ground with Kai's friends all around him and Kai standing right there in front of Jack, 'saving him' after his friends had just struck his wrist with a bo staff.

"Get away from him!" Kim yelled, drawing the attention of all 5 boys. She had her hands balled in fists and she was shouting with more rage than expected from the sweet girl dressed in a light floral dress and pink cardigan.

"Kim?" Jack said, confused by both her anger and presence.

Kai and his friends looked between each other, not expecting this interruption. They weren't sure what to do.

"Kim, what are you doing here?" Jack asked, sitting up.

"Kai planned this," she spat, sending a look of fury toward Kai. "Step away from him," Kim repeated, taking a threatening step closer.

Kai let out a scoff, not intimidated by Kim. "You just couldn't stay out of it, could you princess?"

"Kai?" Jack said, voice cracking. "What does she mean?"

"He planned this," Kim said, when Kai didn't immediately answer. "He got his friends here to come in and attack you so you'd have to drop out and forfeit. And then he came in to save you so you wouldn't think that he was behind the attack!"

"Kai? Is that true? Why-"

"You weren't supposed to know," Kai growled, furious at Kim. "It didn't have to be like this."

"It doesn't have to," Jack said, ever-so-noble. "Look, we'll just-"

"No," Kai spat. "Hold him down," Kai instructed his friends, nodding at Jack.

"What-" Jack was cut off when hands grabbed at him and lifted him to his feet, holding him tightly as Kai approached him.

"No!" Kim yelled, seeing the menacing looking on Kai's face. He was going to hurt Jack bad.

"Kim," Jack called, realizing this wasn't going to end pretty. "Get out of here!"

"No!" Kim immediately yelled, already advancing.

"Kim," Jack begged as Kai chuckled to himself, cracking his neck. "Go." Jack was outnumbered by some of the best martial artists in the world. He wasn't exactly favored, not to mention his throbbing wrist. He didn't want Kim to watch and he definitely didn't want Kim to get caught up in it and get hurt.

"You know," Kai realized, turning to look at Kim. "She's got an appeal." Kai switched his focus on Kim, turning his body to her and away from Jack.

"Let him go," Kim growled, eyeing Jack.

"Such strong words from such a little mouth," Kai laughed. "Maybe we'll have some fun with her. What do you say, Jack?"

Jack struggled against the hands restraining him. This was his worst nightmare come to life.

"Nobody is having any kind of fun," Kim spat, still feisty as ever, despite the slight shake that had rattled her body. Kai was a lot bigger than her. He could hurt her if he really tried. She and Jack needed to get out, but she couldn't leave without him.

"Kim!" Jack yelled, pleading. "Leave!"

Kim's eyes flickered to Jack and she saw the pain in them, the raw emotion. He was terrified for her sake. Before she could contemplate maybe listening, or regret ever storming in to confront Kai without a plan, he was stepping toward her.

"Get away from her!" Jack shouted.

Kai ignored Jack as he walked closer, forcing Kim back.

"Don't come any closer," Kim threatened, holding her fists in front of herself. She might not be as strong as Jack, but she was still a pretty darn good martial artist and she wasn't afraid to stand up to bullies.

"You know," Kai leered, "you almost convinced me. But I can hear the shake in your voice," Kai whispered, leaning closer. Kim's heart was beating rapidly, so hard she could hear it as her ears burned red. But she ignored the fear.

Kim grunted as she swung her fist. Kai caught it before she could hit him and he was too quick, grabbing her other fist and slamming her against the rough brick wall. The sharp edged cut into Kim's back as she wiggled and tried to free herself. Kim let out a whimper as she tried to twist free, only hurting herself more in the process.

"Don't touch her!" Jack screamed. "Leave her alone!"

"Shut up!" Kai snapped, whipping around to glare at Jack. One of his friend's caught his gaze and kicked Jack in the gut, causing him to fold at the waist. "So kind of you to wear such a pretty little dress," Kai taunted, eying Kim's squirming body.

The second he reached for the cardigan on her shoulders, Kim lifted her leg and kicked Kai hard between the legs.

Kai swore, bending down and letting go of Kim. Kim took the split second to kick him again, but Kai caught her foot at the ankle. He just held it for a second, reveling in the power he held over her, before he used it to flip Kim. She landed with a hard thud that reverberated throughout her entire body.

Kim groaned as she rolled from her shoulder and side where she landed, to her back. She was breathing heavily, staring up at the ceiling trying to blink the stars away.

Her dress had ridden up and Kai's friends were laughing at the new view of Kim's legs.

Seeing Kai still trying to recover from Kim's well-placed kick, Jack knew he had a chance to get both him and Kim out of there.

He sagged slightly and the hands holding him loosened enough for him to jump up and kick them all back and away.

He ran forward, grabbing Kim's arm from the floor. "Come on, Kim, get up," he groaned, trying to haul her to her feet.

Kim, still in pain, pushed herself up and with Jack helping her, she stumbled to her feet and the pair rushed out of the locker room.

They didn't stop running until they were far away, far enough that Kai and his friends wouldn't be able to attack without someone else seeing.

When they did slow down, and they both were sure they were safe, Jack slumped against the wall with a hiss.

"Jack!" Kim cried, grabbing him around the shoulders and trying to slowly ease him down. "Let me see your arm," Kim insisted, reaching for it.

"No," Jack fought, hiding it from Kim.

Kim glared at him. "Jackson, you're hurt."

"I'm fine."

Kim huffed and folded her arms, leaning back away from Jack. He was being so stupid right now she couldn't even talk to him.

"I told you to leave," Jack finally snapped. "Kai's my cousin, I know what he's capable of. Why didn't you leave when I told you to?"

"You're yelling at me?" Kim scoffed incredulously. "How dare you! I was trying to save your sorry butt!"

"Yeah? And how did that turn out?"

"You tell me!" Kim said, gesturing to where they were.

"You should have listened to me," Jack repeated, clenching his jaw and not meeting Kim's eyes.

"I'm my own person," Kim argued. "I wasn't going to leave you there for Kai and his goons to hurt you."

Jack was clearly struggling with something as he shook his head. "Kim, you put yourself in danger. Kai went after you, not me. He's stronger than you, Kim. We're lucky we got out when we did because nothing is too low for him."

"He wouldn't have hurt me-"

"He would have hurt you," Jack snapped, stopping himself from making the argument that Kai already did hurt her. "He would have, I know it. And he would have made it bad and he would have made me watch and- Kim, I can't watch you be hurt," Jack said, voice cracking with the emotion he had been holding in and masking with anger and annoyance all this time.

"Jack," Kim frowned. She understood now where he was coming from and she realized then that the same fear she had that Jack would be hurt, he had for her. Neither wanted to watch the other one get hurt and they were both stupidly stubborn.

"I'll kill him if he ever tries to touch you again," Jack said, shaking his head. "It's bad enough that he has this stupid competition with me, but dragging you into it is uncalled for."

"I'm sure my yelling at him didn't help," Kim admitted. She had egged Kai on, even if she hadn't meant to.

Jack shook his head. "It's not your fault," he said. "It's not your fault at all."

"How's your hand?" Kim asked, remembering the injury that Jack had tried to hide from her.

"It's f-"

"If you say it's fine I'll break it myself," Kim interrupted with finality.

The corner of Jack's mouth quirked up. "I was going to say it's finally hurting."

Kim raised an eyebrow as she narrowed her eyes at Jack. "Finally hurting? That doesn't even make sense."

Jack just shrugged, a stupid grin on his face as he passed his wrist to Kim for inspection. Kim took it carefully in her hands, barely even touching him for fear of making it worse. It was red and only getting darker and swelling. He would definitely need to see a doctor and he definitely was not going to compete against Kai. Not that Kim had any doubt in her mind that Kai would be disqualified. He attacked his opponent, it was clearly a violation of the tournament rules that would get him kicked out. She would make sure of it. Jack was the rightful winner and Kai's cowardice in attacking him just proved it. Kai was scared to fight Jack because he knew Jack could beat him. As far as Kim was concerned, Jack was a winner.

"We should go find Rudy," Kim said when was satisfied with checking Jack over. "He can get a doctor and find some tournament officials to talk to about Kai."

Jack wasn't all that eager to move, Kim was fussing over him in a secluded little corner where they were sitting close to each other. Sure, his wrist was throbbing, but he didn't mind it if he could just sit here with Kim.

When Jack didn't move, Kim looked over him with concern. "Oh no, are you okay?" she worried, searching his face.

Jack bowed his head as he shook it, grimacing. Kim leaned closer to see how she could help but once she got close enough, Jack used his good hand to grab Kim and pull her down. She lost her balance and toppled against Jack, leaning against him. She tried to scurry off him when Jack just tightened his arm around her shoulders. "Mhm," he hummed happily with his eyes closed. "Now I'm okay."

Kim sat up enough to twist her head and look at Jack, with that look on his face. She reached up and punched his shoulder, rolling her eyes at him.

"Idiot," she mumbled, as she snuggled into his side none-the-less.

Aww, isn't that just so cute. Like both of them would totally fight to save each other and neither of them would give up until they had saved the other one. If you leave a nice little review I might just write another one-shot that takes place after this (but isn't necessarily a part two, just like another separate story that happens after this, if that even makes sense. Just trust me, I have an idea).
