The Better Sister
Wanda came home from the SAV Wand pharmacy one afternoon. Cosmo wasn't home that afternoon and both of her sons were at school. They were living in Fairy World right now as they had been for some years. The two had decided to settle down for a while to raise their kids.
She went upstairs and got the pregnancy test out of the bag. Her heart was pounding as she waited for results. For a while now she'd been having the symptoms which she knew all too well now after having two sons. But she wanted to make sure this wasn't really a false alarm.
Just before the results came the doorbell rang. She sighed and flew downstairs. Blonda was at the door. She flounced in without being invited. "What's that smell?"
Wanda raised her eyebrows. "Hi Blonda. Nice to see you too. Sure, you can come in."
Blonda narrowed her eyes at her. "Is your only flavor sarcasm?"
"It is when you're around. Did you come here to insult me?"
"No, I wanted you to come shopping with me. Since you're too poor to shop in Fairy Wood maybe you can tell me which outfits look good on me."
"I'm in the middle of something," Wanda said flying back upstairs eager to see the pregnancy test results.
Blonda followed her into her and Cosmo's bathroom. "What are you doing?"
"I might be pregnant," Wanda replied.
Blonda rolled her eyes. "Again? Geez Wanda, you wonder why you're so fat. You keep having all these babies."
Wanda ignored that. She picked up the pregnancy test and gasped when she saw that it was positive. "Oh my god, I'm pregnant!" she exclaimed happily.
Blonda leaned against the wall. "You and Cosmo need to stop screwing. I don't know how you can even stomach being with him."
Wanda flew past her. "Oh stop." She was so happy, even Blonda couldn't bring down her mood. She sat down on their bed and contemplated calling him but she wanted to see his face. Besides, if he was doing something important, there was no doubt he'd probably pass out on the spot.
Blonda however was digging through Wanda's lingerie drawers. "Ew, where do you shop?"
"Would you get out of my stuff?!" Wanda exclaimed. She leaned back and put her hand to her stomach with a content smile on her face. This would be their last baby. Since Poof was born Jorgen was forced to revoke the law that fairies couldn't have babies since other couples got jealous and started a riot. However the new law said that a couple could have no more than 3 babies to prevent over population since fairies had eternal life.
Suddenly the door opened and she knew it was Cosmo downstairs. She flew down as fast as she could and tackled him in a big hug.
He hugged her back. "Hey love. Why do you look so happy?"
She was so happy she could hardly get the words out. "I'm pregnant."
Shock crossed his face but it soon morphed into that big goofy smile of his. "For real? Like, you're really…?" She nodded. Then he covered her mouth in a deep kiss. They laughed happily.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Blonda left and later that afternoon Poof and Kei were home. They were very excited when Wanda told them she was pregnant again. That night Wanda was laying across their bed while Cosmo was putting on his pajamas.
"Can you believe we're about to have another baby?" Wanda asked still bursting with happiness.
"I still can't believe we already have 2," Cosmo said.
"How do you feel about this party Poof wants to go to?"
Cosmo shrugged. "He'll be okay. He's smart enough not to get into any trouble." Poof took after Wanda a lot and for that Cosmo was glad. He was smart like her and popular in school. However, he had a tendency to get into a lot of trouble and sometimes they thought it was from hanging around Timmy so much since he also got into a lot of trouble when he was Poof's age.
He flew over to their bed and sat next to Wanda. "Come here."
She sat up and they kissed. "You don't know how happy you make me Cosmo."
He brushed his fingers across her cheek and she leaned into his hand. "You make me happy too Wanda. I couldn't ask for any woman better than you." They kissed passionately again. He rested his forehead on hers. "Can we celebrate this?"
Wanda smiled. "What do you have in mind?" Even though she already knew.
"Want me to show you?"
"Please."
He kissed her again deeper and dipped her down onto her back to love her hard for the rest of the night.
A few days later Wanda and Cosmo went for a doctors appointment while Poof and Kei were at school and found out that at this point she was nearly a month pregnant. That afternoon they decided to go out for dinner so they all went to Taco Bell.
"Mommy, I learned long division in school today," Kei said.
"Really? How did you do?" Wanda asked.
"I got it right."
"Good job."
"Wait until you get to high school," Poof said. "Math was easy until they decided to throw in letters and pi and shapes."
Wanda laughed at the way he said that. "It's not that hard."
"Well you were a genius in math mom. Do you even use any of this stuff?"
Wanda shrugged. "It depends on what you do. If you become a fairy god parent like me and your dad the only time you'll ever use it is if a god child asks for help on their homework." She smirked. "If you asked me to do any of that stuff now I wouldn't know what to do."
"It's really that hard?" Kei asked worriedly.
"Well don't ask dad to help you with it," Poof said. "Once he said 2 plus 2 equals fish."
Suddenly Cosmo flew over with a tray of tacos, burritos, and drinks. "Eat up guys." They all picked up their food. "I didn't forget anything, did I?"
"Nope, you got it right dad," Poof said taking a huge bite of his taco.
Wanda showed Cosmo a page of a magazine she'd been flipping through. "Look who broke up."
Cosmo looked at the page. It showed a picture of Blonda and her latest celebrity boyfriend and it said "Blonda Fairywinkle and Trey Sparkle Sit". Cosmo raised his eyebrows. "Sit what?"
"Huh?" Wanda said.
Kei looked at the page. "Daddy, that says split."
Cosmo looked at it closer. "Oh! Never mind." He handed the book back to Wanda. "I saw it coming." It really was no surprise they broke up. Blonda had boyfriend after boyfriend and husband after husband and she was such a snob they never lasted.
"Mommy, when are you gonna have the baby?" Kei asked.
"Not for a while sweetie. It'll be another 5 months," Wanda said.
The next day Wanda had gone out to the store and when she came back she found her sister sitting on the front steps of her house. She was wearing an expensive jeweled Gucci skirt and white jeweled top, fancy heels, and gold jewelry. But she was crying.
Wanda flew over and sat next to her. "What's wrong?"
"Trey…l-left me!" Blonda cried. "We were living together and I thought he was going to ask me to marry him!"
"Why did he leave?"
"I don't know!" Blonda exclaimed. "All I did was say that his hairstyle was some crap and he should get it fixed and then he got mad and said he didn't want me any more and he packed his things and left! It's not my fault it was true."
Wanda glared at her. Blonda wondered why none of her relationships never worked out. She always blamed it on the guy but she never once thought that maybe it could be her. "You know why he left Blonda? Because you're always such a stuck up brat. You don't let any of your relationships work out."
Blonda was shocked by Wanda's accusation. "That's not true…!"
"Yes it is!" Wanda exclaimed becoming more frustrated with her sister by the second. "You know it is! You're just too high on yourself to admit it! You think you're better than everyone and every man you date should cater to your every need. It's a two way effort Blonda! Get your head out of the clouds and come back down to Fairy World! Maybe if you'd stop being such a snobby brat all the time men will want you and they'd be willing to have a long term relationship with you!"
Blonda stared at her sister angrily for a moment. Who was she to say those things about her, Blonda Fairywinkle?!
But then she put her face in her hands and more tears and make up spilled down her face. Wanda was right and she knew it. Deep down, she was jealous of Wanda. For a long time she had been. Wanda had found happiness but all she had was her money and fame. At one point the had thought that was what made her better than Wanda but Wanda had love and that was something Blonda didn't have.
"You're right Wanda!" she cried. "I made him leave. I didn't mean to but that's just how I am! I can't help the way I am Wanda! I don't have anything compared to what you have. You were always so nice and everyone liked you. You've been married and in love for almost 10,000 years and you have two beautiful babies and they all love you and would never desert you. And you've got another one on the way. I've never had that. People just walk in and out of my life and I make them leave! You have the better life Wanda and I've just never wanted to admit it!"
Wanda was shocked by Blonda's confession. Stuck up, snobby Blonda was actually admitting to her that she had the better life and she was jealous of her!
"How do you do it Wanda? How did you keep him for so long when the longest I've ever kept a man was 5 years?"
"Well…like I said. It's a two way effort. You can't be mean to a guy and then expect him to give you everything. And…it hasn't all been easy with us. I mean, we've gone through disagreements and all that but you know, when you really love someone you find a way to make it work."
Blonda looked down at her heels. "I wish I could do that. You know, all the men I've married, I really did love them. I just didn't know how to show it."
Wanda put a comforting hand on her sister. "Don't worry. Next time it'll be okay."
Blonda smiled. "You're a good sister Wanda."
