Post-Epilogue
~BEAUTY AND THE BEAST~
"He's gonna blow up you know. Maybe we should spare him from dying young and just not tell him." Vincent laughed.
"And have him find out when I'm as big as a pumpkin?! I don't think so. It's better to find out now while no one knows about it yet…except for Tess...but she promised she wouldn't say a word about anything." Catherine said. "Don't worry Vincent. I know you're twitching on the inside about telling your roommate about our future child, but I'll be with you along the way." She kissed him and added as a little inside joke, "Just like you saved me from Evan during my undercover disaster assignment."
Vincent leaned in and kissed Catherine. "I'd save you from that British git any day. Maybe next time you have an out-of-whack undercover assignment, our second child will be conceived during a night of passion in a hammock."
Catherine rolled her eyes as she lightly jabbed him in the stomach. "Only you would think of something completely ridiculous and still make it sound romantic."
Vincent laughed as he twisted them back over where he was back on top and whispered, "That's because I'm a beast when it comes to romance." He pressed his lips against hers and she pulled him to her, ready to seal the night with another round of love.
Beauty and the Beast
Five Years Later…
Little Vanessa peeked her little brown eyes around the tree trunk to see if the coast was clear. Sensing something approach her, she quietly dug her long nails into the tree's bark and started climbing. She could not let him win. Not this time. When she found a suitable branch to hold her weight, she jumped from the trunk to the limb and perched herself on top of it as if she was a bird watching for its prey.
She looked down towards the ground and saw her hunter circling the area as if he didn't have any clue to where she was. But she knew he knew. He always knew. When he didn't look at the tree, he started walking over towards a big boulder where her mommy was hiding. Her parents always told her to fend for herself and only for herself. She has learned that her mommy and daddy can take care of themselves so she must do the same.
Closing her eyes, she focused her ears on the noises around her and could hear her mommy's heart beat faster and faster. There was nothing she could do to warn her mommy. Like always, it was too late.
"Found you!" her hunter exclaimed as he circled around the boulder.
"Crap!" her mommy shouted as she stood up to her feet and approached the hunter. "And here I thought I was going to win this time! I even masked my scent!"
"Well," her hunter laughed, "You can mask your scent all you want, love; you're still can't mask the beats to your heart." Vanessa watched as her hunter pulled her mommy into a tight embrace. When their lips met, she covered her eyes and grimaced while making a "Yucky!" sound.
"All right, Nessa," she heard her mommy call out to her, "you can come out now!"
She didn't move. Her Daddy had told her to hide until he could find her, but he hadn't found her yet. As far as she knew, he was still the hunter. At least once a week, her mommy and her daddy made her utilize her hiding skills. They had mentioned that, one day, hiding from bad guys will help save her life. Sometimes, this game of hide-n-seek was more serious than others. But currently, her parents decided this round would be a fun one—not a practice. However, fun or not fun, Vanessa believed practice was still a practice.
Sometimes, her mommy would be the hunter…because her daddy said bad guys could be mean and nasty like him or they could be mean and nasty like her mommy. She didn't understand what her daddy had meant when he said he and her mommy were different…and that she was different from both her parents but because her daddy was also her Alpha, she didn't argue.
At a young age, she had understood the concept of Alpha and Omega…her daddy had explained the notion one day and told her that as her Alpha; she must take the role as the Omega and obey her Alpha no matter the cost. Her mommy was also an Alpha but not the Alpha. Daddy was the Alpha and anything he would say, goes. Most of what her mommy says does go, but not always. When she didn't come on her mother's call, Vanessa decided it was going to be one of those 'not always' times. Because her Daddy was her Alpha and Alpha said he had to physically find her first. So, because her Alpha indirectly said so, she disobeyed her Mommy.
"Nessa?!" Her mommy called again but she saw her daddy press his finger to his lips to shush her. Looking at her daddy with confusion, her mommy placed her hand on her daddy's arm and said, "What is it, Vincent?"
"She's doing what I told her to do." Her daddy had said. "I told her to stay in hiding until I find her. So that's what she's doing."
"Well, do you know where she is?"
"Yeah…and I'm pretty sure she can hear everything we're saying." The Alpha answered. "I have to hand it to her, if it weren't for my abilities, I would never know where to look. She definitely chose a very good hiding place. However, if a bad guy made by M ever tried to look for her, she wouldn't be so lucky. So, next practice should focus on finding ways to mask her scent, her heartbeat and anything else that would make her easy prey."
Vanessa didn't understand half of what the Alpha had said but she did know one thing: M. She didn't really understand how bad this was or what it actually did but she's heard her mommy and daddy talk about it enough times to sense fear in the letter. Everything that her parents are making her do…the intense practices…the sharp needles her uncle, Jay-Tee, pokes into her so he can play with her blood…and the rubbery things she has to wear in her eyes…are all because of M.
She does know that M was mean to her daddy and that's why he can never go anywhere other than home or dark places at night. To her, M is a big, fat meanie so, whatever M is, she hopes her parents kick its bottom for being so mean.
"Good idea," her mommy nodded. "I don't know why I didn't think about this until just now but I think it will be a wise idea for her to carry a panic button…That way, if she's ever in trouble and needs us, we'll be able to get to her."
"Whatever we can do to protect her." The Alpha stated as he walked closer to her tree. "Maybe you should get one for yourself too, just in case, yeah?"
"I will do that." Vanessa's mommy smiled while her daddy jumped onto the tree's trunk.
"Be right back." Her daddy said as he looked back at her mommy before turning his head towards her. In seconds, he had climbed the trunk until Vanessa was sitting right next to him. "Good job, sweetie. Are you hungry for some lunch?"
Vanessa nodded as she burrowed herself into her daddy's arms. "I did good?"
"Yes, Nessa, you did really good!"
"Yay!" Vanessa cheered as she noticed her surroundings moving upwards. "Do I get ice cream after lunch is done?"
"Ehhh…" her daddy paused, "That, you're going to have to take up with the queen. She's the food patrol—not me."
"But ice cream not food, Daddy! Ice cream, dessert!" Vanessa puckered her lips and tried to mock her mommy's stern face, causing her daddy to chuckle while jumping from the trunk onto the grassy ground below them.
"Again, sweetie, take that argument up with your mother." Her daddy stated and then, she looked at her mommy.
"I guess one scoop won't hurt." Her mommy smiled, ear to ear. "But, there will be a price."
Vanessa's eyes went really big. "Price?"
"You'll have to sell your soul." She heard her daddy reply before her mommy elbowed him in the side. "Just kidding."
"What…a price?" Vanessa cocked her head.
"If you want a scoop of ice cream, young lady," her mommy said in a firm voice, "you'll have to promise to clean your room up before dinner tonight."
"Awww!" Vanessa frowned and crossed her arms. "No fair! My room messy!"
"That's what happens when you don't keep it tidy, Missy," her mommy said before she made some clicky-noises with her tongue. "No clean room, no ice cream."
"But I did good today!" tears started forming in her eyes. "I did good! I no clean room! I did good!"
"Don't start that, Vanessa Grace; you know I don't like it when you disobey me." Her mother was not happy with her but she didn't care. Her Mommy isn't Alpha.
"I want ice creeeeeeeam!" Vanessa screamed as she started crying, "I want ice cream! I want ice cream!"
As she continued her kicking and screaming, Catherine shook her head in disdain. "You have created a monster…"
"Well," Vincent paused when Vanessa's hand pushed against his mouth as she tried to wiggle her way out of his arms. If it were Catherine holding their daughter, Vanessa would be able to escape with ease; however, Vincent was another story. He could hold onto her as gently as possible and Vanessa still wouldn't be able to escape her father's clutch. "To put it into technical terms, we created a monster" Vincent chuckled.
"I'm serious, Vincent. This is what happens when you condition her into having ice cream after every practice!" Catherine barked as she pulled her hair back.
Vincent licked his upper lip as he tried his best not to think of some kind of snarky answer but could only say, "Uhhh…how else was I supposed to motivate her to start her drills without some sort of reward at the end of her training? She may be a…Tiny Mutant…but she's still a girl, Catherine."
"I know that, Vincent. You're not the one who suffered from an endless night of labor pains when she was due." Catherine rolled her eyes. "Be as it may, like you said, she is still a little girl. Which, little girls like Vanessa should still be reprimanded like other little children. You know I don't ask a lot from her but, every once in a while, it would be nice for her to do what I say when I say it. How is it she never disobeys you?"
"Hmmm…I guess it's an animal thing?" Vincent shrugged his shoulders.
"Of course." Catherine rolled her eyes and started marching off without her family.
"Where are you going?!" Vincent called after her.
"Home!" Catherine snapped. "It's obvious the human isn't needed!"
As she stomped away, Vincent stared after her, wondering what in the world could be her problem. "Women…" he muttered to himself before Catherine called out, "I HEARD THAT!" from the distance.
"You're like 500 feet away! How could you have heard that!?" Vincent hollered, bewildered.
"I JUST CAN!" she replied, really angry. "NOW, UNTIL YOU CAN GET YOUR DAUGHTER TO CALM DOWN, THE TWO OF YOU ARE NOT COMING INSIDE THE HOUSE!"
'What's her problem?' he thought, not sure if she would still be able to hear him or not. Sighing, he placed Vanessa down onto the boulder where Catherine was hiding earlier and commanded her to calm down. Almost immediately, she stopped crying and looked at him with fear in her eyes. Beast or no beast, Vincent was certainly a force to be reckoned with, even through his daughter's eyes.
"That's better," Vincent hushed Vanessa. "Listen to me, Vanessa. After today, you're going to have to start obeying your mother. Remember? She's also Alpha. Not just me. So, whatever she says, goes. Okay, sweetie?"
Vanessa nodded and bit her lip. Vincent kissed her forehead and wiped her tears from her eyes as he picked her up into his arms. "When we get home, and after we eat some lunch, I will help you clean your room, yeah? Then, you can have some ice cream."
Again, his daughter nodded.
"After today, however, if your mother asks you to clean up your room, you're going to have to do what she says. She's right; she doesn't ask a lot from you, honey, and it's time to start respecting her authority." Vincent said as he felt her lean her head against his shoulder. He also noted she was sucking her thumb. "What have I said about sucking your thumb, Nessa?"
She popped her thumb out of her mouth as she accidentally flicked some of her spit onto her father's neck and replied, "No do it…?"
"That's right, Nessa. Remember: old habits die hard. So, for the sake of your teeth, break the habit now while it's starting. Understand?"
"Mhmm." Vanessa replied as she sucked on her upper lip and clasped her hands around Vincent's neck. "I unnersand."
"That's my girl." Vincent smiled and kissed her cheek. "Now, I don't know about you but I'm starving! Think we can get to the cabin before Mommy?"
"Yeah!" Vanessa exclaimed as Vincent took off running. As far as he knew, his family was safe living in the woods. Since Catherine couldn't give birth in a hospital because everyone feared their baby would look…less human, they had to make other arrangements. About a month before she was due, he forced JT to buy the necessary equipment so he could be the one to bring their child into the world. As the due date drew near, Catherine took maternity leave and was ordered, by none other than Vincent, to spend the rest of her days in pregnancy on bed rest.
Catherine never did introduce Vincent to her family—she wanted to but because she didn't want to explain the entire "I'm pregnant and you can't tell anyone about it" scenario, she and Vincent decided against it together. For the sake of their daughter, they left New York City and moved to a small cabin in the woods on the outskirts of Evergreen, Colorado—somewhere very isolated and away from any neighbors.
After convincing Vincent that they needed to survive on more money than just what JT was wiring over to them, Catherine finally found a suitable job as a diner waitress where she can bring Vanessa with her when need be. Her hours were not too bad and the job didn't require a lot of her so it was worth the extra money. Besides, her co-workers adore Vanessa. The best part of her job? Vincent would occasionally make an appearance since the diner is located in an area where cellphone services are very limited. Much to their surprise, the people of Evergreen were very nice and never asked questions. Their home was very comfortable but they were always prepared to run in case Muirfield ever caught wind of them.
Plus, the main reason Vincent wanted to move out of the state of New York was because he wanted to distance himself from JT. As much as he hated saying goodbye, Vincent believed JT deserved a life for a change. However, because of Vanessa's interesting chemical makeup, JT would fly in to take some samples and analyze them to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary for an out-of-the-ordinary type of girl.
As an unwelcoming sound intruded his ears, Vincent stopped running and looked to his right.
"What wrong, Daddy?" Vanessa asked as she looked to her right too.
"Go into the cabin and start cleaning your room, okay? I promise I'll join you shortly." Vincent ordered and despite Vanessa wanting to disobey her father's commands, she nodded and hopped out of his arms before scurrying towards the cabin in the distance.
When he saw his daughter open and close the front door of the cabin, he waited until he heard her lock it before turning towards the unsettling sounds. "Catherine? Are you okay?" He knew these sounds were coming from his wife—he's heard it before. "Catherine?"
When he caught sight of his lover, he saw her crouching down low with one hand pressed against the base of a tree as the other one pushed against the ground. "Honey?" he called out to her as he saw her heaving stomach acid onto the dead grass, "Do you need me to…examine you?"
"No." Catherine managed to voice as she shook her head. "I'm fine." Vincent walked over to her and pulled her bangs back as she produced another unpleasant heave.
"You don't sound fine." He questioned her as he watched her straighten herself back up.
"I'm okay, Vincent. I promise." Catherine reassured him. "Nothing I haven't been through before."
"Catherine," Vincent cupped her face, "You were excessively throwing up, for Pete's sake. That's unusual even for you. The last time I remember you vomiting like that was when you were pregnant with…" before he could finish his statement, he paused when he saw her raising her eyebrows and pursing her lips together. "Wait…" he gripped her shoulders and bent to her level to look her straight into the eyes. "Are you…positive?!"
"Three times, actually." Catherine replied, pulling a plastic bag of three used pregnancy tests out of her purse. "I've been holding onto these for about a week now and had my first ultrasound yesterday. Apparently I'm eleven weeks along. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner and…I know you wanted to be there…but, considering a lot of factors, I thought it would be best for the first appointment to actually confirm it. You're not mad at me for keeping it from you, are you?"
To Catherine's surprise, Vincent cupped her face again and pressed his lips against her forehead. "How can I ever be mad at you?!" Catherine smiled and leaned her cheeks into his palms as she placed her hands over his.
"I'm worried though," Catherine confessed. "I barely make enough to support the three of us, how can we ever support a bigger family?"
"We'll figure something out." Vincent whispered and kissed her forehead again. "You know I'd kiss you right now but…I don't want to burn my tongue off. It's kind of sensitive."
"Mmm…yeah." Catherine hummed but frowned. "Where's Nessa?"
"I sent her to the cabin. Don't worry, I made sure she went inside and locked the door before I came to find you. I wasn't sure you'd want her to see you…sick like that." Vincent said as he slid his arm around the small of her back. "Can't believe she's going to be an older sister."
"Believe it, Vincent." Catherine said while they started walking towards the path. "The tummy will prove itself in due time."
"Looks like I need to have JT drive all of that equipment over here. Besides, now that you're pregnant with Tiny Mutant #2, he's going to want to monitor your blood samples again."
"Tiny Mutant #2?" Catherine raised her brow as a smirk pulled at her lips. "What's that all about?"
"Well, before Vanessa was born, JT didn't like the little nickname we picked out for her. So, for his own humor, he decided to refer her as Tiny Mutant." Vincent chuckled. "According to him, calling Vanessa a little beast was…a bit too harsh…. Although, now that he's met her, I'm fairly sure he thinks Little Beast matches her feisty character much more than Tiny Mutant does."
Catherine couldn't help but laugh at that comment. "Hey, it's his fault for sticking his finger in front of Nessa's face and not expecting it to be bitten. He was asking for it."
"And I agree." Vincent said as he pulled Catherine closer to his side.
"I may not share your animal blood but if someone was sticking any part of their body in my face, I'd bite it too." Catherine stated, causing Vincent to smirk.
"Kinky…"
"Oh shut up." Catherine rolled her eyes and bumped her shoulder against his. "You knew what I meant."
"Or did I?"
"You did."
"Or…"
"Just drop it, Vincent." Catherine stated, not really wanting to deal with his wit.
"Okay." Vincent bit his lip. "So…shall I give JT a call when we get home?"
"Yeah and I guess we should start renting out the guest room to him; I have a feeling he's not going to want to travel back and forth for the next 7 ½ months." Catherine stated as she saw the cabin in plain sight. "But JT is the only one who needs to know right now."
"Got it." Vincent replied and decided, on the spur of the moment, to pick his someday-wife-to-be up into his arms and run towards the cabin. Instead of entering the cabin through the front door (like normal people), Vincent ran to the back of the building, with Catherine still in his arms, and jumped onto the balcony. It may not be a fire escape but it was close enough.
As he carried her into his arms, he slid the glass door open then closed it before setting her back down again. "While you go and…uh…clean up, I'll go check on Nessa." Vincent stated even though he desperately wanted to throw her onto the bed and make crazy love to her until neither of them could move a single muscle. However, because of a certain little one with very strong ears, he and Catherine had to play their…recreational activities…very carefully.
Vincent watched Catherine saunter into the bathroom and when she closed the door; he jogged to his daughter's bedroom and knocked on the door.
"I'm heeeere!" Vanessa shouted as Vincent opened her door. "Daddy, looky! Looky! I help Mommy like you telled me. I cleaned room and you no here when I done!" Vincent scooped Vanessa into his arms and looked around her bedroom. It might not have been a perfect clean-up but for a little Tiny Mutant, it seemed good enough. Clothes were still scattered about and he was sure she stuffed a lot of her toys underneath her bed (the old trick out of the book) but for Vanessa to actually try to do something mostly of her own volition, Vincent was certainly impressed. "It pretty, right?"
"Yeah, I'll say." Vincent acted astonished. "Maybe now Mommy will let you have your ice cream!"
"Yaaaaay!" Vanessa clapped.
"Did I miss something?" Catherine asked as she joined the party. "Why is everyone celebrating?"
"While we were still in the woods, your daughter, Vanessa, cleaned her room all by her self—even after I promised I would help her." Vincent grinned as Catherine squeezed past her family to marvel at her daughter's accomplishment.
"Wow," Catherine gasped. "I didn't know there was a floor in here!"
"See, Mommy?!" Vanessa tugged on Catherine's sleeve. "I do good! I do good!"
"You sure did." Catherine turned around and hoisted her daughter into the air. "I'm proud of you, little one."
"I have ice cream?!" her eyes grew wide. "Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaase?!"
"Well, since you did do what I told you to and you asked nicely, I'll let you have one scoop."
"Yippeeeee!" Vanessa threw her hands up into the air.
"But not until you eat lunch first, okay?"
"Okaaaaay!" Vanessa sang as Catherine let her down to the floor. In an instant, their little daughter pushed past them and raced down the steps with her long hair flying behind her.
"She definitely has your enthusiasm," Vincent laughed as he snaked his arms around Catherine's middle and pressed his fingers gently on top of her belly.
"And your stubbornness." Catherine smiled as she leaned her head against Vincent's collarbone.
"I think…it's safe to say she inherited that trait from both of us, yeah?"
Catherine chuckled. "Yeah, you're probably right about that."
Vincent pressed his jawline against Catherine's head and muttered, "Can you imagine…a more perfect life than the one we have now with Vanessa and Tiny Mutant #2?"
As Catherine turned slightly to bring her hand up to caress her fiancé's cheek, she whispered, "I can." He gives her a strange look, causing her to smile as she placed her other hand on top of his. "You're forgetting somebody…"
"A dog?"
"No…well, maybe a dog sometime in the future…but, you forgot to say Tiny Mutant #3." Catherine confessed. Vincent stared at her, bewildered. When he didn't say anything, Catherine frowned. "Now would be a good time to say something, Vincent."
When reality finally smacked him in the face, his eyes widened as wide as Vanessa's. "T-twins?! W-we're g-going to have t-twins?!"
"It would seem so." Catherine smiled happily. Although being pregnant with two little mutants does scare her, she still cannot help but be ecstatic to see Vincent's joy.
"Come here, you!" Vincent growled rather loudly as he twisted Catherine around and crammed his mouth to hers. She snaked her arms around his neck as he firmly gripped her buttocks, causing her to latch her legs around him.
"MOMMY! I WANT ICCCCCCE CREEEEEEEAM!"
And life couldn't be more perfect (unless they have more kids, find a way to get married and buy a dog, of course).
~Beauty and the Beast~
Keiko Fujiwara: Well…. I hoped you liked the post-epilogue. I do have to say, most of it was an interesting style for me…. In case you didn't pick up on it, the top half of the style was written…so…child-like…because it focused on Vanessa and sort of her POV. But as it transitioned to Catherine and Vincent's POV, it sort of changed back into my usual writing style.
This is the last installment to "Undercover Disaster" so I'm proud to say it is FINALLY finished! I don't plan on doing a follow up to this story. Sorry. :/
Review please! Oh! News: my friend BadgerintheTARDIS and I have started writing this MEGA crossover between Beauty and the Beast, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Arrow and Smallville!
