Though of course there had been some initial fanfare, things soon quieted down for Ludwig and Feliciano and they were left with the alone time they needed. Filled with apologises and promises for the first few minutes, eventually they managed to bring each other enough hugs and kisses to make up for all of their missed time together.
He was instructed to not even try to go back to work for at least three weeks—the hospital wanted to make sure he was truly okay—which Ludwig gladly complied with. He had learnt his lesson; even if his intentions had been to work hard for everyone, it mean nothing if he was only pushing them away.
Three weeks passed quickly, but even though Ludwig was returning to work he knew he couldn't let it get out of hand again. Not that he didn't work more sometimes, (it was occasionally necessary) but he now found he was actually able to leave work before nightfall. It still brought a smile to his face whenever he returned home early to see Feliciano's surprised but overjoyed expression.
It had now been two months since he had first woke up, and Gilbert was taking him out for drinks to celebrate. Ah, that was another thing—Ludwig was also trying to spend more time with his brother. It wasn't Feliciano he had been neglecting, after all, and Gilbert seemed more than happy to see Ludwig whenever he could.
"Man, you know, you really scared the hell out of all of us!" Gilbert said, leaning against Ludwig, two beers empty beer glasses in front of them and more on the way.
"Yes, I know." Ludwig sighed. "I'm sorry about all of that, I really am."
"Hey, would you stop apologising already? Hanging out with my little bro is weird when all he does is say sorry."
"Then would you stop bringing it up…? Also, brother, I hope you brought your wallet this time. I'm not paying for you again."
Their beers were set in front of them, and Ludwig had just lifted his up when he could practically feel the wild grin creep along Gilbert's face.
"But, Luddy! Don't you technically owe me? I mean, I am the one who saved your relationship, after all…"
Ludwig froze, beer barely touching his lips.
"Yeah, yeah, I know you said you weren't going to buy me any, but isn't it the least you could do? Seriously, I went through an abridged Christmas Carol for you and made your adventure in coma-land way more awesome!"
"Brother, what are you—?" Ludwig spun to face Gilbert. He hadn't told anyone about his strange dream and the fact the albino knew even that much worried him. However, he paused when his eyes fell on an empty seat.
Gilbert was gone. Ludwig was left along with his own confused thoughts and the bill.
…Maybe a second beer was a bad idea.
