Her foot touched Gil's under the table.
"Sorry", she whispered.
He gave her a little grin and turned to talk to Sara again.
She for herself was talking with Warrick about his marriage with Tina.
She laughed a lot with Warrick together.
Again she had to think about herself and Gil.
Not the first time this evening.
They are still best friends, so they are stitting next to each other as every year.
It was getting late, so she excused herself and started her way home to Lindsey.
She was nearly at her car as Gil came running towards her.
"Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas Cath", he said with a smile, "and send some greetings to Linds"
She smiled back at him, "thank you".
He was about to walk back in as she stopped him.
"Do you think it could have worked out between us if you weren't with Sara?" she asked him pointblank.
He didn't know what to say.
"I .. I never really thought you felt more than friendship for me Cath..-"
"Well now you know that I do", she said sadly, "and Merry Christmas to you too, Gil", she got into her car and left.
