'I was enough for her, not long ago. I was her number one, she told me so. And she still means the world to me, just so you know, so be careful when you hold my girl. Time changes everything, life must go on, and I'm not going to stand in your way."
I Loved Her First - Heartland.
"I think you should take a seat, Doctor." Pete said, in a surprisingly polite voice.
The Doctor did as he was told, gulping as he saw Jackie clench her fists.
Pete breathed in, deeply.
"Right... I reckon you know what this is about. My daughter is-" Pete got cut off by Jackie.
"Guess where i found her this morning?" Jackie snarled, on the edge of tears.
For a second, the Doctor couldn't breathe.
"Where?" He whispered.
"She'd locked her door. Wouldn't answer the phone. Wouldn't talk to anyone. In the end, we had to knock it down." Jackie whispered, a tear rolling down her cheek "I found her sitting under a freezing shower, except she'd taken the head off so it was just pouring down on her head. She was on the verge of unconsciousness, and might have drowned if we hadn't broken in. My little girl..." Jackie burst into tears.
Pete pulled her into his chest, equally unhappy.
She pulled herself away from Pete and walked straight up to the Doctor. Drawing herself up to her full height, she raised her arm and before he could do anything, she slapped him around the face.
He gawped in astonishment as Jackie walked back over to Pete with a smug smile on her face. And tears still streaming down her face.
"She needs you." Mickey sighed, shaking his head.
The Doctor sighed. He would have smiled, if it weren't for the fact that he had just found out Rose had been torturing herself. Because of him.
"But first, we need to get a few things straight." Said Jack, in a far more menacing voice.
"Because... we all love that girl. So much. She has done so much for all of us. The least we can do is make sure that she gets treated well by the man, or whatever it is you are, that she has fallen in love with." Said Ianto.
"For a reason unbenknownst to all of us." Sighed Gwen.
"Hey! That was my line!" Cried Jake, dropping his tough face.
"No... You talk about the stupid flirting, i do the reason bit!" Gwen shot back.
Everyone else put their heads in their hands.
"You rehearsed this?" The Doctor asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.
They all nodded.
"Right then... I'll do my bit." Said Jake, turning the tough face back on "She'll never say it, because she thinks it annoys you, but we could all tell from the first moment she mentioned her that you hurt her badly over Reinette."
"Rose knows I wasn't serious!" The Doctor cried. Then he saw their faces "She thinks we were.... SERIOUSLY?"
"Of course... abandoning her on a desolate spaceship with clockwork murderers for god knows how long, while you go around snogging french women isn't gonna help her get the right idea." Jake sighed at how clueless the Doctor was.
"Oh come on! 5 hours isn't that long!" The Doctor cried.
Mickey mumbled something that nobody could hear.
"What?" The Doctor asked Mickey.
"It wasn't 5 hours." Mickey mumbled.
Everyone looked a bit taken aback by that.
"How long was it?" Jake asked.
"5 days." Mickey shook his head "Rose didn't want to tell you because you were so happy."
"That's textbook Rose." Jackie sighed "Everything for everyone else."
"No wonder the TARDIS was so pissed off with me. She must have been persuaded to go in on you little secret, too." The Doctor grinned, then abruptly stopped grinning as he remembered this situation was not at all funny.
There was an awkward silence for a moment. Everyone started shuffling.
"So... What do we do now?" Ianto asked, finally.
"I wait for her call. If there is a call. And-"Mickey cut the Doctor off.
"Trust me, there will be a call. Just give her time. She's so used to living without you, that having you back may just seem a bit good to be true." Mickey grinned at the Doctor's astonished expression. Then frowned. "But if you hurt her again, no matter how much i like you, I will cut your balls off."
The Doctor nodded.
"And I will help him." Said Jake and Pete at the same time.
The Doctor nodded again.
"And I will remove your co-" Jackie started to say...
"THANKS VERY MUCH JACKIE! I think i get the message." The Doctor cried, cutting her off.
Everyone laughed. It appeared the atmosphere in the room had brightened a little.
Suddenly, Jackie's phone rang.
"Hello?"
There was the unmistakable sound of uncontrollable sobbing from the other end of the phone.
"Oh, Sweethart.... What? No, I'm coming, Just had to pop out to the shops. Yeah, they're all with me..... Coming now, darling. Don't d anything stupid." Jackie put down the phone.
"Right. Back to clearing up your mess, Doctor. My daughter needs me." Jackie gave him a curt nod and left the room.
Everyone else except Mickey followed abruptly.
Mickey shook his head at Jackie.
"She will call. You wait and see." He grinned, encouragingly at the Doctor.
The Doctor smiled as best he could.
"Thank you, Mickey the Idiot." He said, ruffling his bald patch.
Mickey grinned.
"Hold on in there." Mickey replied, punching his shoulder.
He smiled again and left.
The Doctor sighed and plopped down on his bed.
The good news was, apparently, Rose could forgive him. The bad news was, he had to wait.
He had never had to wait before.
It was boring.
