It has been four days.
He can hear Walburga's voice from the next room, an angry throb.
Regulus swallows nervously and presses his forehead to the windowpane, tugging absently at his sleeve.
There is a dog standing sentinel outside the house. A stray.
It has started to rain, but the dog doesn't move. It glares at him, growling, and Regulus wonders if it knows what has happened.
It probably knew Sirius. It probably liked him.
I didn't want this, he wants to say.
Or perhaps - "Good riddance."
He wonders, briefly, what would happen if he let it in.
