It was February 14, and the hustle and bustle of love struck teens could only point to valentines day. Smiling faces and giddy energy filled the halls, almost everyone was having a good time... Everyone except Leni loud.
Leni focused on cutting her red paper heart out precisely, arts and crafts had never been her strong suit. Her hands were clumsy and uncertain, not like when she was crafting a new dress or skirt.
It had to be perfect, this paper heart was the representation of Lenis love. Despite being kind and beautiful Leni had not been gifted in the love department, to the blondes great shame she hadn't even been on a date yet and she was almost seventeen.
Flushing Leni could feel tears welling, desperately Leni wanted to find her special person to kill yucky spiders or to help explain jokes when they sail right over the blondes head.
While not the brightest student Leni was critically aware of her short comings, some things she just didn't get socially. That was ok because usually Leni had Lori or Lincy to explain things to her, Lori had finally sat down with Leni and explained the importance of finding that special person.
"You won't always have me or Lincoln, to lean on Leni"
Lori said that Leni had to learn to be strong, but that's what Leni thought gym class was for?
Sensing herself drifting in thought Leni clamped down on what she did understand, she didn't want to be alone forever. Smiling Leni decorated her valentines with all her hopes and pining, maybe if she got this just right then Leni could find someone to overlook her forgetful nature and general ditzyness.
The sun set, as Leni worked endlessly on her card in the library. People came and left, Leni jerked when she felt the librarian tap her shoulders. Twilight had fallen and the library was now dark and deserted " the days over sweetheart", the librarian gently ushered a crestfallen Leni out of the library.
Softly crying Leni walked home, she couldn't believe that she'd been so engrossed in making her card that she hadn't noticed that school had long since ended. All that hard work and now it was too late to give anyone her card, everyone had someone to love except Leni.
Her phone was pinging with nothing but pictures of beaming lovers and couples, Leni couldn't help but desperately want that not just to have someone kill the yucky spiders but just to have someone.
Someone to hold her hand, someone to say she wasn't stupid, someone to love her despite being Leni. Her porch was illuminated enough for Leni to make out the shadow of someone sitting.
It was far too late for Lincoln to be outside, but here he was with worry written on hisface. Smiling sadly Leni wiped the tears from her face bitterly. Taking a seat next to Lincoln, the two sat in silence for a while. Lincoln put an arm around the blonde as Leni searched the stars for an answer.
Swallowing the boy was overcome with just how beautiful his older sister was, her brilliant blonde hair contrasting with the dark sky and her soft features thoughtful. Soft pink lips and tear swollen eyes, Lincoln shook his head to try and dispel these thoughts but found himself unable to.
"Did you get any valentines Lincy "?
Snorting Lincoln thought back to his empty card box at school, valentines day was for popular people who had a butt load of friends not for white haired losers.
"No, what about you Leni did you get any cards"?
Smiling wistfully the blonde shakes her head, " I think I might be broken Lincy, Lori said that I wouldn't always be able to rely on her or you and that I needed to find a boyfriend or something...I don't know what to do anymore, I've never had a single date and most boys think I'm silly. I'm scared that I'm going to be alone forever" sighed the blonde biting her lower lip.
Feeling his face heat up Lincoln was dumbfounded, Leni was sweet, kind, and loving. She was kind of a ditz but everyone had their faults, it was hard to process that Leni was feeling this way.
Lincoln knew he'd kill for a girlfriend like her. Freezing Lincoln internally battled with his better judgment, hesitantly Lincoln leaned forward. Leni sat still, her eyes wide and questioning. Lincoln gently pressed his lips to Leni's, the older girls eyes widened but she didn't pull away.
Pressing on Lincoln felt Leni open her mouth enough for him to insert his tongue, she tasted of the sweetest ambrosia. Leaning in Leni wrapped her arms around his shoulders, when they pulled away both siblings spent a moment just looking at each other before trading yet another tender kiss, Leni had finally found her valentine.
