A/N Hello everyone, let the story begin.

Prologue

"Protego!" He yelled, in order to protect himself of what he was sure to be a harmful curse. The flash of light that originated from the tip of the opponent's wand deflected upon the invisible barrier he had conjured. He had not even lowered his own wand before a second curse struck him, successfully knocking him down. His head hit the cobbled street and the impact resulted in his wand leaving his tight clasp and rolling a distance away. He could hear the footsteps becoming louder, it would only be a few seconds before they would reach him and who knew what would happen then?

It should trouble him, he supposed, that he was unable to move or to protect himself. He should be afraid... but he wasn't. The thought provoked a memory he hadn't thought about in a long time (but that was only a lie).

"Everyone is afraid of something, some are just better at hiding it."

Her words, spoken in her beautiful voice as clearly as if she had been standing right beside him, played in Remus's head over and over: like a song stuck in his head. In his mind, she was breath-taking, sixteen-years-old and sitting on that windowsill with the sunlight reflecting against her blushed, flawless skin and her dark blue eyes. That was almost three years ago, and how things had changed. She was no longer lost in the magical world, but instead had found her place. He remembered how she had resisted so much in the beginning, how she was still resisting when she had said this. But so much had changed, after all, resisting change hardly prevents it from happening.

"Everyone is afraid of something, some are just better at hiding it." He heard the sentence replay once more, and he couldn't help but think that even though he had been careful, had made sure she wouldn't suspect a thing, she had surely meant this for him and somehow, she knew. He smiled, just a bit, because of course Ellianna had known, she always knew. And when the footsteps came to a halt, he realized that she had proven him wrong. He had always thought he knew what he was afraid of: that his secret would be told or that his friends and family would eventually abandon him, because of what he was... but she had proven him wrong, just as she always did. For, as he lay there, with the tip of the enemy's wand pointed at him, and his own wand out of reach, he realized losing her was what he was most afraid of. He made a mental note to tell Ellianna later that she was right, that he had been hiding it all these years and it could only be proof of mental cowardice. He could practically hear her delightful laugh at his confession, but he reckoned that she had already known. Ellianna always knew.

With the thought of seeing her again, Remus began to smile. He could not do anything but wait for the curse to hit him. It was only a matter of time before it would strike and kill him, presumably that was what he thought the intentions of the dark figure looming above him were. So he waited, but it did not come. Instead, when the enemy spoke, it was not the words of a curse.

"You will never find her," he snarled timorously, like he believed his words not to be true. "Never."

Apparently, someone who had given up everything for the Dark Lord, was not good at hiding their fear either.

He let the words sink in for a while. Knowing that it could be true, last week when she had kissed him goodbye, he could have never known where she was headed off to. But today, he knew he might never see her again. "You might be right," Remus spoke at length, his voice void of emotion, "But that doesn't mean that someone else won't."

The other wizard reacted visibly and pulled his dark brows in a hostile frown. His face contorted into one of displeasure, he used to have this sense of authority, though it had all but vanished now. One simple comment by the young wizard made his opponent seek wordlessly for a reply. Instead, he resorted to a new tact. "She'll be dead soon," he threatened with malice in his brown eyes, "And so will you."

Remus nodded, and he knew then and there that if he were to die, it would not be before he had the chance to see her again. He looked the enemy dead in the eye. "You can try," He responded bravely. "But he won't get what he wants from her."

Because Remus knew why she was taken by them and why the Dark Lord wanted her, but he also knew that she was never going to give it to him. And that very well may end up in her death, but if Remus had anything to say about it, she would live to see him again.

And she did, because finally, as he lay there on the hard stone of the street with the enemy's wand pointed at the spot between his eyes, he knew how to help her.

A/N Dear readers, I apologise for the confusing prologue, but it will all make sense in about 500 thousand words later. I was supposed to be studying, but I have a massive headache so instead I resorted to writing. (Acting as if writing is a more productive way of spending time than studying will not make me feel better about myself, but I can at least try).

Anyway, this prologue is highly influenced by the amazing story of Jewels5 The Life and Times. Thank you for taking your time to read this and enjoy the rest of the story.

Love,

Your writer
