The Revelation
The earth shifted, revealing a long-buried… In truth it looked like a life pod, but more ancient and alien than any life pod humans could have come up with. It was ornate and richly crafted; someone had put thought and love into this vessel. It popped open without warning in the midst of the devastated city of Johannesburg. Buildings were smashed, roads were ruined; it was a mess. Phyllis noticed none of this though. She was too busy holding her dead fifteen year old son to her. The boy had been her life. All this time raising him, sacrificing for him. All for nothing. She sobbed, feeling a kernel of hatred for the Avengers in her heart.
A figure rose from the pod. She was a short figure, five foot two at the tallest. She was beautifully dark-skinned and skeletal, there was no meat on her bones. The woman was clothed in a simple white gown that reached to her ankles. It was soot and blood stained, missing parts of it as if it too had been through a war. The girl looked to be no more than twenty, only the fact that she was stepping out of the pod identifying her as anything but human. She looked around, her pretty brown eyes impossibly wide as she took in the damage around her. The woman keening across from her was hurting her senses the most at the moment. Her pain was almost tangible and struck the girl's sensitive heart more than the property damage. Taking a deep breath, she felt a song coming on and let it build around her, letting the woman's pain guide the lyrics.
Hmm…. Hmm… Hmmm!
I'm a princess cut from marble smoother than a storm
And the scars that mark my body, they're silver and gold
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones
It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me.
As she sang, the street she was standing on started repairing itself. The pod closed and re-buried itself as the damage from the Hulk and Ironman's fight fixed itself. Phyllis was watching all this in amazement when the boy in her arms suddenly drew a shuddering breath, the large piece of rubble buried in his chest dissolving as his body repaired itself. She was now crying with gratitude to the girl singing in the middle of the street.
"Mama? Mama, what's going on?" her son asked in their native language, staring at the strange girl in the middle of the road. People were starting to notice the girl as broken glass reassembled in their appropriate windows.
"Hush, baby," she responded in kind, hugging the boy tightly before standing and pulling him to his feet. The girl was starting to walk down the street, and Phyllis was eager to see where she was going, what she was going to do next.
This is the start of how it all ever ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I'm speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
We rip the start, the colors disappear
I never watch the stars there's so much down here
So I just try to keep up with them
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
The girl was walking at a leisurely, regal pace, people following her as the city repaired itself at the command of her sweet voice. Very few people in this country recognized the song she was singing, but hundreds of phones were on her, recording this extraordinary performance. She seemed in a trance, ignoring everyone as she loosed her unique power on the devastation around her.
I dream all year, but they're not the sweet kinds
And the shivers move down my shoulder blades in double time
And now people talk to me, I'm slipping out of reach now
People talk to me, and all their faces blur
But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prison
And I'm locking up everyone that ever laid a finger on me
I'm going in (ooh)
Those injured or even killed in the fight were recovering instantly. Every hospital and clinic in Africa was suddenly empty of patients as diseases and ailments just melted away. The old and infirm had less pain. Cancer and MS patients were suddenly cured as if their disease processes had never existed. People were rejoicing all over the continent at this strange but wonderful happenstance. The boiling white light that left healing in its wake.
And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat
Sparking up my heart
And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat-beat-beat-beat
Hmm...
By the time her song was done, the entire city was repaired as if the fight that had destroyed half the city had never happened. There was a dramatic increase in the amount of drinkable water in the whole continent and many of the healthcare workers that had come to Africa to help were suddenly out of work as bullet wounds and cleft palate deformities fixed themselves all at once. The whole continent was engulfed in light at present. Anyone touched by the light was instantly healed. The crowd was going crazy as the news poured in from all points in the impoverished continent. People wanted her to sing more, but the noise seemed to wake her from her trance and she stopped glowing completely. She cringed away from people trying to touch her, whimpering and curling in on herself as they shouted to be heard over each other. Phyllis broke through the crowd and tried to hug the terrified woman, but she backed away, more afraid than ever.
Welcome to my take on the Avengers. I hope you enjoy it! :D
