It felt like we had been wondering through the streets for ages. The sky now had an overcast, it was beginning to get dark now. I soon started to slow down, many of the undead were playing dead. I was told they may strike at anytime, so I should keep my eyes peeled. I saw that the police had secured a blockade around the station. Some of it had already been broken into. The streets looked like hell. Vehicles were upside-down, windows were smashed, the drains even smelt worse. I then heard a growl. Something leaped up behind us both. A dog? Saliva ran down its mouth, half of its body was decayed, I could see its lungs moving. There was two of them. They ran there top speed at us, I pulled the trigger, missing many. Click, click. Reload. Next time I looked up its face was near mine, it pushed me to the floor. Without hesitation I pulled my knife out and stabbed it in the lower gut. It fell beside me. Alex then shot it in the head a few times. I saw he had already shot the one who was after him. Alex offered me a hand up, and I took it.
"Thanks!"
"No problem!"
I brushed the blood on my knife onto the concrete. Its blood was really dark, nearly black. My heart was nearly pounding out of my chest, I was know truly scared. I wouldn't let Alex see this, he shouldn't worry about me. We never had a chance to catch our breath, we soon heard more cries of the undead, coming closer to us.
"C'mon, we better go!" I nodded. Within another 2 minutes we were at the police station. There was a fire near it, and I heard an explosion come from somewhere. I started running.
"NO! Danielle, wait!"
"What is it?" Alex pointed at some small white discs on the floor. Landmines? What are they doing here?
"Watch your step!" He said to me, at least we could get some sort of warning before the infected closed in on us. It was incredibly noisy as we stepped into the station's courtyard. I heard the sound of flapping wings and crows screeching. Then one of them swooped down and tried to take a bite out of Alex, he quickly grabbed his knife and started chopping them to pieces as they advanced on him. I did the same, one by one, taking the crows down. Is anybody still alive, and not infected? I soon created a puddle of blood, slithering around my feet. Disgusting! One of them scratched my legs, I screamed in pain, I saw my own blood begin to mix with the blood on the floor, mine was much lighter in colour. I cut the crow that scratched me. I limped to a small little alley which was under the entrance to the police station. I stumbled down the stairs.
I fell down the cold, stone wall to the floor. From my knee downwards was covered in blood. Great, just what I wanted. I then saw a hand come from one of the floor vents, it grabbed my other leg and started pulling, I then saw the policeman's face. His mouth wide open ready to take a bite, my breathing went out of control, and started hyperventilating from the shock. I managed to get me gun and shoot it. I lay on the floor then till Alex had finished off with the crows. I soon heard his footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Bloody hell, Danielle, I thought you were dying!" I smirked at his remark, he would always say that when I took things like paper cuts too seriously.
"God, we better get that patched up…" He grabbed some sort of spray and began spraying it on me. I winced as it stung, biting my lip.
"You could of told me about it stinging!" He gave me his innocent boy look and shrugged. He then reached into his back pocket and grabbed a roll of bandage and wrapped it round the wound then he applied pressure to it for a while. He smiled at me, I smiled back. He started to lean in closer to me, until our lips were nearly touching. There was something near us.
"LOOK OUT!" I screamed, but I was too late. Something pierced through Alex's chest, nearly hitting my own. He fell to the ground, blood beginning to pour out of the wound. Then I saw it. On the ceiling. An orange like creature, its brain was exposed, I couldn't see any eyes, its tongue, I saw, was being used as a weapon. I fired bullet after bullet at the exposed brain, it fell from the ceiling, it dropped dead. I looked at Alex, his eyes had no light in them. I cracked, into sobs. All this emotion now came to me, the reality of it all. I started shaking as I closed his eye lids. I then hugged myself, still crying.
A new sort of fire then came to me, I raised my head and looked at his body, then tried my best to stop crying. I took the ammo he had left, and his shotgun, placing it on my back. I then stood up and said a silent prayer for Alex, I started running up the stairs, looking at Alex one last time before I was up them.
"I liked you Alex, I really did!" I whispered. I started running as best I could to the entrance. Pain from my leg overwhelmed me, it was excruciating.
The door creaked as I opened it. Light filled my eyes when I walked in. It was a rather large entrance, with a fountain in the middle of the hall. My feet echoed as they hit the floor. I could see bloodstains, going to and from different doors, something had been dragged. I went down on the ground to have a look at it, I could tell by the scent it was fresh. Something wasn't right here, I don't think that this is the 'safe house' it is suppose to be. There is something lurking around here, I could not just imagine it, but could feel it. We had been here not so long ago on a school trip. There was something I wanted to check out. Right at the back of the hall was a door it said *STRICLY PROHIBITED* on it in bold letters. It had a number lock on it. I then started kicking it and it soon came down with a thud that echoed around me. I looked around, making sure I hadn't gathered any unwanted attention.
It was an incredibly small office, packed with files and papers, a desk and chair was tightly crammed into a small corner. I walked over to it. I found a file. UMBRELLA was written on it. I took out the file.
'It has been discovered that Umbrella has been producing a new form of virus, it is unknown what they are planning to do with it, but we shall keep a watchful eye on things. We do not trust Umbrella anymore, as much investigating we have done, Umbrella refuses to have a word in the matter, making this job much more difficult. We were planning to tell the citizens of Raccoon City, but Umbrella had said to keep strict secret or we may be terminated. We believe Umbrella is starting to create a mass B.O.W (.Weapons) project. This can be highly dangerous to the citizens of Raccoon City. Spies have found out that something else is being prepared, something the world has never seen. We cannot be certain, but a lot of things are pointing to Umbrella at the moment and we hope that Umbrella is confident with the tasks they are setting out, we can not do anything more than we have done now…'
Damn Umbrella! I hit the desk in frustration, knocking over some of the stacked files. I sat down on the chair and kept re-reading the file. Before I knew it, tiredness started to over-come me. The pain in my leg started throbbing even more, and before I knew, it was dark. The pain seemed to have knocked me out.
