A/N Thanks for the reviews guys! Here's Chapter 4!
"Hey…? Hey, are you awake?" I mumbled a bit, what I nightmare! Must of overslept again! I rubbed my eyes then opening them I saw an unfamiliar face. I looked around to see I was on the floor of the office. Shit! My head was resting on someone's lap. This horror is indeed a nightmare. I stumbled off him, I could tell I was blushing. He reminded me of Alex. He had a side fringe, it was a bit more messier than Alex's and more brunette. His bangs draped over his face, he moved them to the side.
"Josh?" I questioned.
"Danielle Deon, right? So good to see you're alive! " I laughed and hugged him tightly. I hadn't seen him in a while. He is two years older than me. With me playing saxophone and him playing guitar we use to see each other on a regular basis. And prat around with each other, a lot! It had been different when he left, and I missed him, we did have Facebook to keep in contact though.
"I found you, lying on the floor, your leg was covered in blood, the dressing was overflowing with it!" I looked down to see the clear white tiled floor now stained with my blood. "Damn crow!" I muttered. I looked down at my leg, looks like Josh had redressed it, and my leg was now cleaner. He got up, dusting the much off his combats. He outstretched his hand, I took it, he pulled me up. He was wearing his usual grey jacket with a black line down it.
"Have you got a gun Josh?"
"Yeah."
"Take my shotgun, you will know how to use it more than I do!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, for god sake take it!" I picked the gun up from the floor and shoved it in his hands alone with the ammo I had for it. He nodded a smile at me.
"Where we going now?" I asked.
"Check through here for survivors, then get the hell out of here!" He took his gun out checking it. I did the same only reloading it. We started to walk out of the room, stealthily opening the door. The lights had been knocked out by something, luckily we had lights on our guns. I followed Josh around the fountain, we heard a crash. We suddenly checked around with our lights and found nothing. Until I heard something land behind me. I could hear my uneven breathing. I sharply turned around seeing something move quickly from the slight. It looked scaly, and a rather strange shade of green. I saw something to my left, I knew it was there, Its eyes had a yellow glow, I could see them, watching me, in the dark. I whispered to Josh. I saw I was uneasy and tapped my back, making me jump slightly, but I knew he was there. I told him the search to the left when I searched to the right. I heard it move again, but when I moved my gun there, nothing. There was suddenly a loud screech behind us. I saw some sort of reptile monster jump at an incredible height towards us, I managed to dodge away. It caught Josh by surprise nearly clipping him with its massive claws. He began to shoot, I hesitated taking in this monster and began shooting. It then screamed again as it fell to the floor. I saw the light flickered as Josh loaded his gun . He signalled me to follow him again. We opened the double doors. The lights were on. From first glance it looked more like a bank than a reception. We found much ammunition laying about, we picked it up without a second glance. I have no doubt people were attacked in here. My eyes widened when I saw blood and gore laying in a large red pile. I wanted to be sick. Josh put a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"They… were called Hunters, a B.O.W, from one of Umbrella's experiments. Lets go now…" I nodded silently, There was a singular door which we went through, horrified to my feet, blood covered the floor and walls.
"My God…" I whispered. I heard Josh swallowed hard, he, indeed, too was nervous and practically shitting himself. I could only hear the sound of our irregular breathing. We turned a corner. Only to be greeted by another path of blood. My feet squelched as they hit the floor. Saliva dripped from the ceiling. I looked up to see one of the same creatures that had killed Alex, I looked back at Josh , I must of looked frightened. He raised a single finger to his lips giving me the signal to be quiet. I saw its tongue roll out of its mouth, nearly hitting me on the head as I silently proceed forward. I heard Josh stumble and with that the creature launched itself at him. It pinned him down to the floor. I took out my knife and stabbed in the brain. That was for Alex! I surprised myself at doing that, getting right up to the orange creature and stabbing it, I didn't expect myself to do that. I kicked the body before it fell on top of Josh, this time I was the one to help him up.
"You ok?" I asked
"Yeah… Yeah. Thanks!" He walked over to the body of the creature and pulled the knife out of it brain, he studied it for a second.
"Don't tell me your with Umbrella?"
"No no, it was my fathers."
"Where is your Dad? If he works for Umbrella he should be…"
"He's dead…"
"I'm sorry…"
"It's fine, don't worry about it."
After searching around a bit and being told these creatures were lickers, it was around mid-morning. Most of the Undead were now laying on the ground. I presumed half of the city had been destroyed. We soon came across the S.T.A.R.S office. I couldn't help but feel a bit woozy. We opened the door, guns in hand. It was secure in here.
"Whoa, whoa, you ok?" I heard Josh say. He caught me as I was about to fall. He paced me over his shoulders and carried me to the nearest chair. He grabbed some bottled water from one of his pockets and gave it to me. I took a little sip before he gestured me to have more. He soon took out his knife and destroyed the glass on a vending machine. He took out some sandwiches, crisps and a couple of chocolate bars from it. We sat there in silence eating our food. I was starving, I hadn't eaten for nearly 24 hours now. I thought that if I didn't die from a creature I would certainly die from starvation. I took out my hair from its ponytail.
"Bloody hell, you wasn't joking when you said you was growing your hair out!" He laughed a bit, I smiled. "It looks nice, I prefer it like this." I combed my hands through my dark hair, it reached about mid-waist, I brushed my side-fringe out of my face.
"Thanks." I said, a blush creeping up my cheeks. I only just realized that this S.T.A.R.S office was pretty large. There was about three desks dotted around and a few sofas and table and chairs. There was one other room, a singular private office. '' was written on it. He must have been the captain. Josh tried to open the door but it was secured shut, he couldn't even kick it down. I told him to forget about it, we needed to get out of here alive. It was another nice day today. The sun shone through the blinds of the windows. I looked through them. We were two stories up. The streets were havoc. There were giant cracks in the roads, transports were dotted around, upside down, on there sides, there was even the odd fire from a petrol spill. It was a ghosts ville outside, all the undead were laying about, half decayed and rotted. It really was unbelievable, a week ago every was how it should have been, a day ago, everything would change. My eyes began to fill with water again. Josh soon came up to me, he held me as I cried. I could of swore he was about to as well, until the door swung open.
A little girl came through in a sailors outfit. She had short blond hair. If we weren't in this situation she would have been adorable.
"Hello, are you alright…?"
"I'm fine thank you. I should go, I shouldn't talk to strangers." Her voice was sweet, she was petrified, I could tell.
"No! Wait its too dangerous on your own!" I nearly shouted at her.
"My Mommy and Daddy will be waiting in the lab." Her Mum and Dad would be dead, most likely, I couldn't tell her this, it would break her heart.
"Stay with us, sweetheart, we won't hurt you. Now, I'm Danielle, what's your name?" She looked down at her feet.
"Sherry…"
"Sherry Birkin?" I was really quick to respond. Was this Alex's sister? She looked scared.
"How do you know me?" She quickly ran off.
"Sherry! Come back!" I started running after her, Josh followed closely behind me. She was quick to go through a small vent.
"Shit!" I hit the wall. Only causing 3 of the undead to awake. We shot them down with ease.
"How do you know Sherry?"
"I don't…"
"Then how do you know her name then?"
"… Alex…Alex Birkin…He saved me from them… He died…from a licker…" I hung my head. I tried to hold back the tears but failing considerably.
"Did you like him?" I nodded the tears finally breaking free. Josh let me cry, even at school when I got upset, he would always be comforting, even when we muck about with each other. He will always have a soft side.
I wiped the tears away. Then I tied my hair back up. We continued going through the police station. Only to come across the jail part. Many dogs were there, launching themselves at us, I didn't see one approach from behind me, Josh shot it, and I was surprised to see the dog was mere centimetres away from me when it was dead, I think.
As we walked and turned a corner we saw it was a dead end, we heard an odd scratching sound, like the claws of a licker against the wall. We opened a door to find loads of the undead compacted into such a small room. Josh whipped his shotgun out and all of them were down in seconds. They wouldn't be dead for long, it couldn't of got all of them in the head! There was an entrance to the sewers, and to my dismay we went down it. Nothing could match the smell of death down there, it stunk worse than anything I could imagine. It was dark down here, we had to use our gun lights.
We paddled through the water. We heard a strange insect like noise. I looked to the walls to see giant spiders attached. They swooped down near us, nearly swiping Josh with there legs. We shot and shot at it. It hurled over, I think it was dead. We soon came across a gate-door, just when I was about to open it, something else did. It hit me in the face. The hand was wet and smooth. I looked back to see the red eyes of an overly grown frog. It was quick, and our aim was crap. It kept moving about, getting closer and closer. It fell to the floor. Josh had used his shotgun.
We pressed on, it must be night by now. We soon found some ladders. Finally, is this the way out. Josh went first, to make sure it was safe, I was checking nothing was coming from behind us. I heard Josh open the gate, I could smell the air of the city from hell.
