Maybe it was just in his blood, but Inutaisho was not made for peace. His title was that of the Dog General. He was made for battle and hardship. Peace times is what he fought for, but it was not something that he particularly enjoyed. He liked spending time with his son and he liked wandering, but his muscles burned.

He missed the ache of his muscles when he was pushing against another sword. He missed the feeling of his claws running through something the silky feeling of blood on his fingers. He missed his teeth bitting down and feeling something crack underneath it.

He sighed. It was the beast in him, that carnal instinct to prove that he was the best that he was the strongest. But then there was Inutaisho the man. He needed a new world to conquer, a place to dominate. He wanted to prove to himself and the world that he was the strongest. He needed the challenge something that would ignite his senses.

He had a son and a mate, but there was no challenge in his family. He was the alpha and his son would succeed him. There was little to no relationship between himself and the mother of his children. They were promised to one another long ago, before they were even born. It was only obligation that held that together and with the birth of Sesshomaru any dalliance or conversation that they may have had ended. If they were not talking about their son, they were not talking at all.

He sighed and rubbed his face. Sitting in front of him was nothing more than a wide open plain. The world was peaceful with butterflies flitting around the field bouncing from flower to flower. The air did not smell of anything other than the scent of flower and his own malcontent.

He wanted nothing more than to fight someone and do something, but what was there to do? He had conquered his lands and was ruling dutifully over his people. He ensured that they were cared for as an alpha should and there was nothing more to it.

He sighed. His muscles still ached with the need to move and to burn through the heat of battle. His claws tingled in his hands. What more could he do? There were no more worlds to conquer of people to fight. And he was still at the pinnacle of his power. He sighed and rolled his shoulders.

It was then that a scent wandered over to him. The air smelled of the heat of lightning but the sky was clear. Inutaisho turned his head and followed the scent. He walked well into the center of the meadow where the scent was the strongest. It was coming from here, but there was nothing there.

Inutaisho looked up and did not even see a cloud in the sky. What — ?

A bright light flashed and power ripped across the meadow. The power slammed into Inutaisho's chest and he was sent flying back. He flipped in the air and landed on his feet. A hand reached out and churned the earth and slowed his progression backwards. He looked up.

Sitting there was a red and purple, portal that warbled and twisted in the light of the sun. The scent of lightning warmed the air and Inutaisho rose. He walked towards it and looked at it from all sides. If one looked at it from the side all that they would see was the wavering heat of the air, but looking at it from the front and the back there was nothing more than a portal.

Inutaisho was tempted to reach out a hand and touch the portal but decided against it. He was curious but not stupid. He sighed and looked at the portal once more.

It wavered and then something fell out of it. He went to the side that had just excreted the object when whoever it was scrambled to their feet.
It was a woman, tall with wavy raven locks and bright blue eyes. She shuffled away from the portal on her hands and knees looking at the portal. Inutaisho stood behind her watching as she crawled away from the portal.

A thin, bony foot came out first, followed by a sludge that shone in the sunlight. The creature that stepped out was an unholy mismatch of a dog and a deer, though he could not tell where one creature started and the other began. Its hind legs were higher than its front legs giving it a hunched over appearance and it had no skin. It was nothing more than a mass of oily sludge that shone it the light.

The portal warbled once more and when the creature was finished coming through it winked out of existence. The creature roared and then chased after the woman who rose from the ground. She charged around the creature, screaming as it gave chase after her.

Inutaisho jumped into action. His hand slammed into the creature launching it far into the meadow. His hand stung and when he pulled away it was red with the telltale signs of an acid burn. He sighed and then picked up his sword So'unga. The battle cried out with glee hitting his mind the way oil hit a pan.
It whispered to him about the world that they were going to conquer and the blood they would spill. But first they needed to beat the challenge that was in front of them. The world tilted and he was launched into battle.

His sword sliced through the sludge that covered the beast but there was no blood and no bone that could be found. The beast turned its attention away from the girl and towards Inutaisho. It slammed its feeble paws into the ground hard enough to make the earth crack. Inutaisho dodged every hit and rolled away from it.

How do you fight a monster with no muscle to tear into? The sludge was acidic too so there was no way to physically touch the thing. Inutaisho launched into another attack and sheathed his sword. He made a whip of light and started lashing at the creature.

That seemed to get a reaction from uit. The lacerations on its back and legs were not so quick to disappear and the creature bellowed as it ran back toward Inutaisho. He jumped over the creature as it charged at him and the girl was looking at him from her position behind him.

"What is this creature?" he demanded of the girl.

"I don't know!" she shrieked back.

The creature had slammed into a tree causing it to topple to the ground. It shook its head and turned around to face Inutaisho and the girl. The creature gave another bellow before charging once again. The Western Lord fashioned his light whip into a sword and charged at the beast.

He sliced at the leg of the beast making it fall to the ground. Part of the leg went flying in one direction as the beast toppled to the ground.
He went over to give the killing blow, standing in front of the beast when the leg he had sliced off went flying back into place. The Dog General's eyes widened as the beast rose up and looked at him with glowing red light. The woman then jumped in front of him with a quick shout of "no!"

Bright white light effused from her chest and enraptured the creature. It gave a quiet shout as the light wrapped around it. The sludge fell away and the bones fell to the ground. Inutaisho looked down to see a white lotus pattern glowing on the girl's forehead and watched as the bones reassembled themselves in the light.

The pale ghostly figure of a man who appeared to be a jackal stood in the light. The jackal demon smiled in the light and then disappeared without a trace. The light slowed until there was no more light and then the girl opened her eyes.

With the light gone, the white lotus disappeared from her forehead and she turned to look at him with wide eyes.

"I don't know how I did that?" Was all she said.

Inutaisho raised a brow at that. What was going on?

"Who are you girl and what dangers have you brought to my lands."

The girl snapped to attention a fire igniting in her eyes. "First of all, my name is Kagome. Ka-go-me. Not girl. Not wench. Not Priestess. Kagome. Secondly, I don't know what the hell that was. That was my first time every fighting something like that."

He scented the air. Her scent did not smell of the bitter lies that he expected. So she was telling the truth, but he narrowed his eyes at her. He could smell a lot of things from her. He could scent the lightning of the portal and the heavy scent of perfume, but one thing that he could not scent was rot.

All humans had that lingering since of rot, the telltale sign of their mortality. Demons smelled of it to but to a lesser degree due to their slowed aging. But she did not smell of it at all. Which meant that the woman could not die.

He sniffed again. No rotting smell. He tilted his head.

"What are you?" he asked aloud.

"Who are you is what I should be asking. You already know that I am Kagome, but you have yet to introduce yourself," Kagome said with arms crossed.

Inutaisho tilted his head. "You do not know me?"

"Does it look like I know who you are?" She gestured to herself.

Her clothing was odd. She wore a thin top and hakamas were blue and form fitting around her legs. Her shoes were finely made, to the point that he could not see the stitching that held it together. Either she was a foreign princess or a very well taken care of harlot, but he scented her again and did not smell the scent of others upon her.

Princess then.

"You are not from here," he said. The clothing was nothing that he had never seen before. And the girl looked at him peering at his face.

"Where have a seen you before?" she muttered to herself. She looked closer at his face and Inutaisho could not help the small part of him that enjoyed her looking at him. He stared back in turn. She was small, her head coming up to his chin and she was toned and tanned. This was someone who was used to being in the sun and outside. But if she was a princess her skin would be paler and she would not have the muscles she did.

His own mate was more slight that her, but he had to admit that she filled out her clothing well. She tilted her head and gasped and Inutaisho's eyes widened at the sound. He paused in his musings to look at her. A hand was slapped over her mouth and she sucked in air harshly.

"You're… you're…" she breathed out.

"I am the Inu no Taisho," he proclaimed. He puffed out his chest. His title was something that he wore with pride. He had fought tooth and nail for it and would not let anyone forget that he was the Dog General. "And what are you, Kagome."

Kagome stuttered and looked around. She looked confused as to her surroundings and let out a breathless laugh. Inutaisho furrowed his brow. Was anything that he said funny?

"Forgive me for asking but what year is it?" Kagome asked.

"It is the year 1478," he said with a tilt to his head.

Her scent went sweet with surprise and then she sighed, pressing a hand to her face.

"And farther back I go," she said.

"Farther back? What are you talking about?"

The woman sighed and opened her eyes she looked at him with a smile. "You wouldn't happen to have any children would you?"

He raised a brow at that. "I have one son."

She chewed her thumb in her mouth and sighed. "I really am… and you really are…"

"Quit with your mumblings girl and speak plainly." He was beginning to get frustrated with her constant starts and stops. He wanted to know what exactly was going on.

"Okay. Let me start from the beginning." Kagome took a deep breath and then closed her eyes for a moment. Then she opened her eyes to look at him. "My name is Kagome Higurashi and I am from five hundred years in the future. I am — was — the priestess of the Jewel of Four Souls until it was destroyed."

The Jewel of Four Souls? Inutaisho wracked his brain. Yes, he had heard of that before. It was supposed to be some bauble that would grant any wish. Something that only weaklings would rely on. But then something else caught his attention.

"I only have one son," Inutaisho said.

Kagome smiled at him. "For now."

"Explain."

"I think that you will need to sit down for this. It's a long story."

The sun was nearing the horizon when the story was done. Inutaisho sat back in amazement. His sons — he would have two — would save the world and destroy something as powerful as the Jewel of Four Souls. He could not help the burgeoning pride that he had for his progeny. Despite, not having Inuyasha yet, Inutaisho felt a deep pride for him. He could not wait to meet his other son and this princess he was meant to foster the child with.

"That is quite a tale," was all he could find it in himself to say.

"It took a while to complete. The shards were spread all over the land and now the jewel is gone and all those who have been affected by it can rest easy," Kagome said.

"That was very noble of you, to fight to complete the jewel," Inutaisho said. He looked her over, she was sitting back in grass, her arms planted in the grass to support her body weight. This woman was a warrior and one that had fought many battles though it seemed that his sons had left her with little training.

"Well my family had always raised me to fix my own messes. I broke the jewel so it was only right that I was the one who gathered the pieces," Kagome said.

"And that white power from before… what was that?" Inutaisho asked. Kagome shrugged her shoulders.

"I have never had that power before. My priestess powers are pink," she said. She looked down at her hands and tried to conjure them but all that came out was pink sparks from her fingertips.

"There was also a symbol on your forehead of a lotus," Inutaisho said leaning over and tapping the center of her forehead.

"Really?" She raised a hand to her forehead as though she wanted to feel the mark but when she lifted her bangs there was nothing there but smooth skin. She sighed. "There is always something changing. Just when I get used to something…"

Her scent was tinged with the heavy scent of sadness and Inutaisho rose from the ground. He towered over her and reached a hand down to her. There was no use in crying.

"Change is all around us. We can either fight against it or go with it. Come with me Kagome. My home is near by and I take it you do not have a place to stay."

She looked up at him from under her lashes and smiled. She took his hand and he drew her close, pressing her against his arm. The girl flushed as he bent down to whisper in her ear.

"Hold on to me," he said.

A circle of light coalesced around their feet and they were lifted up into the air and sent flying through the sunset sky. Kagome pressed tight against him and the wind at his back, Inutaisho could not help but feel that his days would be boring no longer.
