Chapter 12: Taking a Chance

"We need these relationships, and if they want to meet me, I will go."

"These are the same people who nearly tortured you to death," Cordesh argued.

"That was well over five hundred years ago," Per'sus replied, though pained as he thought about Demetrius' agonizing death. He retreated, giving Mukul control. "We are willing to take the risk, and we won't be alone."

Cordesh sighed. "I don't want to lose another batch mate. There are only five of us left. We just lost Tu'rir."

"Because we couldn't find a host for him, which is true for many. Losing a host is nearly a death sentence."

"Which is why I'm willing-"

"They asked for me."

"They might not…respect you."

"Why not?"

"They are a patriarchal society."

"We are male," Per'sus replied sternly as he felt anger from his host.

"I know, but they may not-"

"I would suggest you don't finish that sentence," Jolinar interrupted.

Cordesh sighed. "Per'sus, I just don't want to see you or Mukul hurt or killed. The Tok'ra need you."

"This is not for debate. This is not up to the council."

Cordesh nodded. "Jolinar and Lantash…protect him."

Lantash made a sharp nod. "I'll keep them safe."

Jolinar merely rolled her eyes. As if she needed to be ordered to protect Per'sus.

Neither were usually bodyguards, but Per'sus thought Jolinar's diplomatic skills might also be useful, and he saw the potential for Lantash to learn diplomacy.

:.:.:

Lantash followed closely, which amused Jolinar since they were merely heading to the stargate right now.

"They appear to be unnoticed by the Goa'uld. In the time since…" Lantash paused. "Since…"

Per'sus glanced towards him. "Since you saved my life."

"Since then, councilor. They have done well. I believe, should they remain out of sight of the Goa'uld, this risk may be well worth it."

Does he know he's just telling him what you already told him? Aegle, Jolinar's host, thought.

Jolinar smirked. Probably not. Let him be. He's just nervous.

It's kind of adorable.

No.

Aegle laughed, or would have, if she had been in control. I know. I know. You don't like him like that.

And I never will.

They went through the stargate. Despite the centuries that had passed, Per'sus was hit with memories as soon as he stepped through the chapa'ai.

It smells the same.

Are you alright? Mukul asked.

I have to be. He walked down the steps.

They approached a group of people, clearly awaiting them. The planet may have had the same smell, but the clothes had certainly changed.

Per'sus put on a realistic smile. "Greetings."

"This is Councilor Per'sus," Lantash introduced. "I am Lantash, and…"

"They know me," Jolinar reminded as he gestured towards her.

"Oh, of course."

One man approached, opening his arms in a friendly manner. "Greetings, new friends!" He gave a genuine smile. "Welcome to Tollan."
