I know this is short, it's just a small update. I know it's been awhile since I've update not just this story but all of them. I promise I have not abandon fanfiction, It's been hard to find the will to write anything lately. I apologies for that. This one will be officially ending with one more chapter that will be an epilogue of sorts. I can't say when it will be posted but I promise it will be added eventually.

Carlisle & Esme

Three years later

Esme walked as her three nearly four-year-old daughter Tia held on to her skirt. They were in the clinic in town, and Carlisle was with a patient in the next room. Things were usually slow this time of day, seeing the mine had officially closed a year ago. Many had left town when it had been shut down, but Mayor Newton had deemed it unsafe after the last collapse that nearly took out the entire town. Esme was actually shocked to learn that Edward had had some medical training and had helped with the wounded.

There were still logging accidents as that enterprise was still going strong, and the occasional animal attack but otherwise things were quiet. She found she liked the clam. Though there was nothing calm about the rumor mill around town. There was always something or rather someone to talk about. Mike cheating on Jessica with her cousin Lauren or Maria, Nettie, and Lucy all having an affair with each other despite all being married to men. Then there was the rumor that Rosalie was with child, which was in fact true and Esme was happy for Rosalie and Emmett.

The door to the exam room opened and Phil hobbled out on crutches with Renee behind him. As they were walking out Leah walked in with Jacob Jr. who was about five now and his two and half-year-old sister Susan (named after her grandmother Sue). The baby was coughing constantly as Jr. was sneezing, it seemed they both had colds. Esme quickly ushered Tia out the back door to keep her from encountering the sick children. Carlisle waved them away as they disappeared out the door blowing them both a kiss, Tia blow one back but Esme doubted he saw it.

They walked down the street passing Maria's dress shop that thanks to her very wealthy husband had better material and was more expensive because of it. No one in town could afford most of what the shop offered. Alice's fortunes was just down from the dress shop advertising a glimpse into one's future for only two dollars (which if you lived like most in town did one couldn't afford that either). Esme found it funny that two of the wealthiest families had shops that were overly expensive for most people.

As they walked she saw Bella and waved. Bella was holding Little Edward's hand while arguing with her daughter Renesmee outside Masen's saloon, but she managed to wave back at Esme. Esme wondered what they were arguing about, but knew better than to ask. They walked into the general store where Mr. Cope was assisting Tanya and her daughter, Maggie. It had been a shock that Tanya and Liam had decided to stay once the mine closed but Liam had gotten a job with the logging company Twilight Mill and they had stayed.

When Mr. Cope was finished ringing up Tanya and Maggie he turned to Esme and Tia. "What can I do for you, Mrs. Cullen?"

"Will take some black licorice, bread, and the strawberry jam please." She said.

"I will get that ready for you, Mrs. Cullen." He said as he began to gather the items. When he was finished she paid and placed them a basket that she asked for as an afterthought having forgotten to bring one.

"Thank you, Mr. Cope," she said leaving the shop.

She and Tia began making their way back to the clinic where they'd left Carlisle with Leah and her two sick children. She hoped her husband was finished treating them and was ready for the small lunch she was bringing back for them. When they returned they found the clinic was empty of patients and Carlisle was sweeping the exam room. She placed the basket on the front desk just as Tia ran to greet her father. Esme smiled as he lifted the little girl kissing her cheek before tickling her. He walked over to Esme with their daughter still in his arms and kissed her fiercely.

She never believed it was possible to love someone this much but as she stared into her husband's eye she knew it was. Tia had only made it grow, she was their miracle and they were both so grateful to have her. Life was perfect.
