A/n I'm sorry it's been a while. to anyone who chooses to continue this story. I appreciate you! I moved a lot. and I mean a lot in 2022. I also did not have a laptop, (it was the only way i could move away from my niece was to leave it with her. LOL. kids. moving away took a lot of me. and I had a pretty major loss. but I'm settled in my very own apartment for the first time in a long time. So minimal distractions (i babysit here and there). I should be able to continue at a good pace. I reread the last 11 chapters to familiarize where I was. I hope to make fewer mistakes. And pick up speed now. Thank you for reading. This will be a small dipping of my toes in chapter.
…..
Three weeks later.
Callie and Arizona spent most of the days at the park with River. All but Wednesdays. For some unknown reason to Callie, Arizona was always busy. Today was one of those pesky days that Callie and River would come straight home after saying goodbye to the infamous . The evening went by fast. Callie made dinner and got River ready for bed. Tonight instead of a book she opted to sing her mini me a song. It was an ancient Spanish lullaby.
Callie's phone chimed again. Thinking it was Arizona saying goodnight like every night for the last few weeks. She picked up the phone.
Unknown number
Goodnight till I can hold you again. And I will hold you again.
She smiled at first but then she felt off and the ending seemed almost threatening. she had been getting these texts and her phone wouldn't let her save the number for some odd reason. Which really sucked because she wanted to save it under some cutesy name with an emoji. Oh what was this girl doing to her.
….
Arizona had not told Callie yet that on Wednesdays she video chats with her parents. Partly because Callie had told her how rocky her relationship with her parents was and partly because that might mean opening the can of worms of her brother. She just wasn't ready to talk about it yet. She would tell Callie. maybe when things were serious. For now she would just say she had an outstanding appointment and that was all. It wasn't a lie.
Thursday
The three girls were at the park as usual. River, laying in the middle of the two older ladies, on the same blanket Arizona packed everyday. It had become like their special blanket, Arizona thought to herself.
" I like this mamma." The littlest of the three spoke nonchalantly.
"Me too baby. me too." Callie said.
"Me three" everyone let out a giggle.
"Welp, I'm gonna swing now, bye guys.". Without waiting for a response she was gone. Leaving just the two ladies alone.
"You can hold me now." Callie offered.
Arizona, slightly confused but grateful to finally hold the woman, opened her arms without saying a word. Callie rested her head on Arizona's blue and black school spirit shirt. They stayed like that for what seemed like days. But it was no more than 2 hours. Before River bounced over to the two and asked for dinner.
"I was thinking about taking River for pizza. care to join Miss. Robbins?" Callie asked tentatively.
"Hmm" Arizona pretended to think about the offer. Only if you change my last name she thought in her mind.
"Please please please!" shouted River, mostly excited to be having pizza for dinner.
"Yes please !" Callie copied her daughter's excitement. Giving her her best puppy dog eyes and lip.
Arizona leaned in real close to Callie and whispered in her ear.
"Only if you sleep over tomorrow ."
Callie gulped.
"Ill talk to Mark and Lexie."
All three had held hands as they walked across the field to the pizza parlor. Callie loved everything being so close. They made small talk and ate a Large bacon pizza, Rivers' favorite. They shared a quick kiss and parted ways. Callie crawled into bed and her phone yet again chimed.
Unknown number.
What a happy family.
She just put her phone away smiling. She was going to talk to Arizona tomorrow about texting more often and why she couldn't save her number. That really weirded her out.
…
Mark had agreed to watch River. With a big smile he said he needed all the practice he could get. So Callie dropped River off at home, collected her to go bag and hit the road.
When she got to Arizona's about an hour after pick up she could smell something delicious.
"Mm something smells nice." She said as she walked through the door after Arizona answered it.
"Homemade chicken Alfredo lasagna." She said simply.
"How did you have time for all this?"
"I like to cook and I had some spare time after the park to prepare. I had been thinking about asking since Tuesday." Arizona blushed.
They sat down and began to eat when Callie's phone chimed….
