Obito walked away, ignoring the growing sense of unease within him. He loved Itachi and Shisui, he really did, but sometimes he wished they were a bit more mature. He was an orphan, and it was a well-known fact among the Uchiha clan, but it was also a fact that Obito had worked very hard to hide from his team.
He didn't need their pity. He never had. All he could hope now was that his team wasn't too suspicious about the offhand remark his little cousin had made. His thoughts must have shown in his face, though, as he was soon interrupted by harsh tugging on his poor pants (they were bound to tear soon, he knew it). Snapping out of his thoughts, he looked down into the doe eyes of his baby brother, which were quickly filling with tears. "Nee-san, are you angry with me?"
Obito shook his head so hard that it almost separated from his body. "Of course not, Shisui. It doesn't matter what you say, Nee-san will always love you."
Shisui blinked away tears. "Thank you!" (Except it came out sounding more like 'tank oo')
"Itachi, could you tell us the time please?" Obito asked sweetly. Itachi had recently got a watch as a gift on his birthday, and he was very proud of it (even though it was rather useless since his little cousin wasn't familiar with Roman numerals). Every time someone asked him for the time, Itachi's chest puffed out cutely like a little Robin. He was doing it now. Obito somehow managed to stop himself from either bursting out into uncontrollable laughter and from unstoppable cooing. Itachi handed him the watch and Obito's face paled when he saw the time. Five minutes to get to the Clan meeting. The council will not be happy if he was late. He had no time to worry about the incident with his team. Right now, all Obito could do was hope that his team wouldn't be too suspicious about this.
Unfortunately for Obito, his team was VERY suspicious. Rin and Minato stared out into the distance, watching their teammate and his cousins recede into the distance. The silence hung around them heavily until Minato broke it. "Well, that was… interesting." He managed softly.
"Certainly. Very strange, too." Said the tree (the same one Itachi and Shisui favoured, if you're wondering).
Rin screamed and banged into the tree. Minato sighed. "I was wondering when you were going to reveal yourself, Kakashi."
Kakashi climbed down from the tree as Minato made his way to Rin to help her up. Kakashi rolled his eyes.
"Shall we go now, sensei? It would do us well if we stop training for the day." Kakashi asked.
Minato nodded his consent and the team made its way down the road.
"You know that boy?"
"Which one?"
"The idiot's cousin. The older one. I think his name was Shi-poo-ni or something."
("Kakashi, don't call your teammate and idiot."
"But he is one. I'm just being honest."
"Kakashi!"
"Sorry.")
"Kakashi-kun, I'm pretty sure his name was Shisui."
"…"
"Kakashi-kun?"
"Shisui, then. What do you think he meant by the idiot not having a mother?"
"I don't really know, Kakashi-kun. But I have some ideas."
"What do you think, Minato Sensei?"
They both turned to their Sensei, who had been rather quiet for most of the conversation.
"I have suspicions, but I don't really know."
Rin and Kakashi shivered. Their Sensei had that glint in his eye, the one he always haid when he was thinking.
"But I sure as hell intend to find out." He finished. His students nodded. They knew this statement to be the truth.
