Chapter 5:

Debriefing, Avengers 3rd Person POV:

The Avengers returned to the tower at 2:00 am, and immediately trooped down to the debriefing room where Fury and Hill were waiting.

"Well, that was a bust," Tony said, "Spider-Man never showed up. I thought you said that he patrolled every night? And it wasn't because we were checking in the wrong areas. Not even Friday could detect him, and we know she can as it worked the day before."

"According to the research we've done and the information we gathered, this is the first time since he started that he has not come out. But, like I said, he is dangerous and this is why. He is an unknown and unpredictable." Fury said.

"Maybe he was injured or we scared him off?" Natasha asked.

"We'll see what happens tonight. If he shows up tonight, it's not because he was injured. No one can heal that fast, and definitely not because he was scared." Fury responded. "For now, you are all dismissed, see you all tonight." And with that everyone dispersed to go to sleep. Yes, even Tony Stark.

Genius 3rd Person POV

Genius was up by 6:00 working on the new AI for the three of them. By the time 7:00 am came around, he had already coded the basic elements needed for their AI, such as a tracker, a signaling feature, and communications feature. He still had a little bit of time left so used it to complete the rest of his homework, before leaving for school. As soon as he got home from school, he began working on a temporary communications device. He knew that they had the communication signal and agent and bugle wouldn't be far from each other, but this would make everything safer and then he, too, could listen in and be of better assistance. After finishing the communications device, which basically looked like an Apple airpod, he texted the other two, telling them to come over because he had something to give them. He then hacked into the NY surveillance system before continuing to work on the the time the other two arrived, he was mostly done with the AI. He just needed to add a couple more things, in addition to the constant updates their AI would be getting in order to remain advanced and up to date with more features.

Genius launched into their meeting before the other two could even say hello.

"I created a communication device for us. One for each of us and it goes inside our ear and underneath our mask. Unfortunately, you both will not be able to talk into it just yet as our masks are not soundproof, but they will be when our AI launches tomorrow. So don't talk into it today, unless it's an emergency. I will be using it to tell you where the avengers are. I have the NYC surveillance cameras pulled up in my computer for that reason. However, we will all have this as a feature of our AI with it telling us where they are tomorrow. I know we said we'd use our signal but that could be a bad idea. They don't know about there being three Spider-Men, so it's best that we don't use that system because who knows what conclusion they will come to. Speaking of our AI, other features already coded into it include: a tracker for our whereabouts, a surveillance feature for both the avengers, Nick Fury and Maria Hill as well as a surveillance for crime in NYC, a communications feature that prevents sound from escaping so test we can communicate without the avengers overhearing, an alert system in case one of us is injured, and a voice modifier so that we all sound the same when we are forced to communicate with the avengers. I have a couple more features I want to add before we launch it tomorrow, including giving our AI a voice. What do you guys think?" He said.

"Well, my first thought was, you did that all in a day?" Bugle asked.

"It wasn't hard, and I was motivated to get this done as soon as possible. I want us to patrol and save the people of New York, but I want us and our family to stay safe first." Genius said.

"Well, I think everything you have done so far is all really good. And I think the use of a communication device instead of a signal is a very good idea," Agent said, as Bugle nodded.

"Very well. Let's try out the earpieces to ensure that they are working and then you guys can go out on patrol." Genius said as he handed over the earpieces. They all placed their earpieces in before Genius told the other to wait in his room while he went into the apartment building hallway in order to see if the devices worked.

"Can you guys hear me," he asked as soon as he was out of the apartment.

"We can hear you." Agent and Bugle replied.

"Can you hear me now?" Genius asked once again as soon as he was in the apartment stairwell. Once again, they confirmed that they could.

"And one more time." Genius asked as soon as he was on the ground floor of the apartment building. And once, they confirmed that they could hear him before he returned to his room.

"So we know that these earpieces work, however, we were in the same building. Therefore, while you are on patrol, and before the avengers show up, I want to continue testing it to see how far it can go. Since I have all the surveillance cameras of the city pulled up on my computer, I will let you know when the Avengers are approaching. If, at any point, I am unable to communicate with you, I will use the Spider signal to let you know." Said Genius.

"Sounds good." The other two replied.

"And we are sticking to one Spider-Man show up at a time, but I think as soon as the Avengers show up, I should suit up and remain hidden, and then we can go forward with showing up one at a time to make it look like we are teleporting." Bugle strategized.

"Sounds like a plan, let me get changed, and then we can head out." Agent said. Five minutes later, Bugle and Genius were headed out the window, Genius with his suit and mask on with the earpiece securely placed into his ear underneath the mask, and Bugle with his earpiece in his ear, his suit hidden underneath his normal clothes, and his mask securely tucked away in his pocket.

Genius took a seat at his desk as the other two were leaving. As soon as the other two were 5 buildings away, he began testing the earpieces. The other two had reached Manhattan, with Agent on top of the Empire State Building and Bugle hanging out on the streets, far enough to not be suspicious but close enough so that he could keep an eye and assist Agent, especially when the Avengers this far, earpieces worked.

Duo Patrol, Bugle and Agent 3rd Person POV

It had been two hours into patrol, and not much had happened. Agent had managed to stop a mugging and car accident, while Bugle helped a couple of people with directions. Right now, Bugle was casually eating a hot dog and Agent was sitting on top of the Empire State Building when Genius came in over earpieces and said, "heads up, you've got incoming. Iron Man is in the air, 1 mile to your left, Captain America and Black Widow are on the building to your right, and hiding behind the pillar with the fire exit door. Hawkeye is on the building behind you, standing on the fire escape."

Avengers 3rd Person POV

The Avengers had been notified 2 hours earlier that Spider-Man was out and about. And rather than jump in and capture Spider-Man like a chicken without a head, they devised a strategy in which Spider-Man would have nowhere to turn. Natasha and Steve would be on one side, Tony would fly in from the other side, and hover about a mile way. This was in case Spider-Man thought the other side was safe since it would appear like no one there and as a result, he would end up in Tony's repulsors line of fire. Clint would be behind Spider-Man and if he missed the first time, he would be able to reload and shoot again, and not miss again, as going forward would be a straight line for him. But what they didn't take into consideration was Spider-Man's apparent ability to teleport. Because one minute he was jumping of the Empire State Building in the direction of Natasha and Steve and not even 30 secs later appearing from the shadows behind them and webbing them to the wall without them being able to react before once again disappearing into the shadows and once again reappearing from the shadows behind Clint and webbing him, too, to the wall.

"Spider-Man can teleport," said Natasha over the Avengers communications system. "Clint, Steve, and I are webbed up and can't move. It's up to you Tony."

"On it," he replied as he fired up his repulsors and began to chase after Spider-Man. "Friday search for Spider-Man. Where is he hiding?"

"Boss, he is behind you." She replied as he jerked around blasting his repulsors in an attempt to defend himself from being attacked. But he was too slow for Spider-Man had already disappeared. "Boss, he's behind you." Friday said. Once again, Iron Man was too slow. This cycle repeated for another 30 minutes before Iron Mans movements were restricted due to being caught in a human sized spider web. "I've been webbed up." He informed the rest of the Avengers. "Are you guys free yet to go after him?" He inquired.

"No, we're still webbed up. We've been trying but this material is very strong." Steve said.

"Then, I think it's safe to say that we once again lost." Natasha grumbled in annoyance.

"Dammit!" Nick Fury exclaimed. "Maybe tomorrow you should bring in the other Avengers."

Spider-Man 3rd Person POV:

After webbing up Iron Man, Agent and Bugle did indeed go home.

And miles away, while the four avengers were discussing with Nick Fury about bringing more Avengers into the fight, Genius heard the entirety of the conversation since the surveillance cameras not only enabled live footage, but sound as well. "This is not good, but our AI will be ready to help us, starting tomorrow." He muttered before revoking his access to the cameras, finishing his homework and then going to bed.
