***Rewind 13 years ago when Kate was only 4 years old***

Kate was at her mother's job with her mother. Kate kept whining that she wanted to go across the street to the park. Her mother, finally fed up with all the whining, grabbed her purse and started to lead Kate to the park.

Once there the first thing her mother did was to sit on one of the benches and made a phone call. Kate knew that this would mean that her mother would pay absolutely no attention to her.

So Kate goes running off towards the slide but ends up crashing into another child. She falls to the ground and looks up at him. Her eyes begin to water and she was on the verge of crying. The boy notices this and immediately helps Kate off the ground and embraces her in a warm, gentle hug.

"Everything is going to be okay." He whispers softly into her ear. He lets her go and gives her a bright smile. She noticed that one of his teeth was missing so she ended up giving him a small smile back. He leans against the playing structure, "So what's your name?"

"Kate." She whispered softly "I four years old" She said and held up 4 fingers.

"Kate is a pretty name. My name is Brian and I'm 7." Brain said but Kate didn't have a response and stayed quiet. "Do you like to explore?" Kate was a bit confused with this question but nodded her head. "Come with me then." Brian said and took her hand softly. And started to lead her. Surprisingly she followed. For some unknown reason she felt completely safe with him.

Brian led Kate down some steps then onto a dirt path that led into the woods. Being the children that they where, they started running around, playing, and exploring just like little children would do.

After some time they were both exhausted after some time and decided to sit down. There was one tree that was by itself, with no other trees around, which is weird considering they were in the woods. But Brain sat down with his back against the tree and Kate sat down in front of him. Kate noticed it was starting to get dark.

"I have to go back. My mommy is looking for me."

"Okay." Brain said and helped her off the ground. He noticed that Kate had tears in her eyes. "What's wrong?" He asked her.

"I don't wanna go"

"Why?"

"What if I never see you again?" She covered her face with her hands and he smiled slightly. He took her hands off her face.

"You will."

"How do you know?" She asked very doubtfully. He looked at her for a moment and then took off the dog tag that he was wearing around his neck and gave it to her. It had his name on it. She looked at it and then looked up at him. "What's this?" She asked.

"That is my promise that you will see me again." She smiled slightly and put it in her pocket.

"But wont your mommy notice it gone?" She asked him but as soon as the words left her mouth she noticed that he had a very sad expression on his face and then he look down to the floor.

"Don't worry about that." And before she could protest, he took her hand softly and started to lead her out the woods with a smile on his face.
