Author's Note: Hello there! I'm extremely sorry for leaving you guys without a reason. I'm sorry! But there's a perfectly good reason, right Rena?
Rena: Right! Eclipse's mom got mad at her and confiscated her computer, Itouch, and USB for five months!
Now, you're probably wondering why I can post this. It's easy enough, allow me to explain. On my profile page I wrote that I live in NYC. If you leave near there or something you've probably heard the news. I'm in the area that Hurricane Irene is heading in. I have about ten hours until Irene actually gets here, in other words the bad part. But my dear mother decided that I was allowed a little distraction considering that this is the worst Hurricane to actually be in the area in a while.
Rena: maybe it's not the best conditions to be writing in but, hey, better then nothing.
I agree completely. We're suppose to be in a safe zone, so don't worry too much! Again, sorry about the delay and I'll try to post as much as I can. Luckily I combined the last to chapters of Attraction together, so this the last chapter.
Gene: better safe then sorry!
Rena: Please enjoy the chapter. And be safe!
I DO NOT OWN GHOST HUNT
Chapter Eight
Mai's P.O.V
We were walking back to the office and Rena was ahead of me skipping like a high school-er, (She was one, but, that was besides the point).
"Rena is something up?" I asked.
She turned to me and took my hands between hers'.
"Mai, it's been decided, I'm putting all my efforts into helping you!" she declared a goofy grin on her face.
"Helping me with what?" she gave me a spectacle look.
"Well, if you haven't figured it out yet, then I suppose that's where I have to start,"
"What are you going on about?" I demanded she grinned and skipped ahead. "Don't ignore me when I'm talking to!"
"If you want answers you're going to have to catch me," she teased already sprinting ahead.
"No fair!" I ran after her, trying my best to catch up but gave up when she dashed into the SPR office. "Damn Lin's and their quickness,"
"Well forgive us for taking care of our physical condition," I jumped about ten feet in the air and rounded on the eldest Lin.
"What is with? You almost gave me a heart-attack! I probably lost my shadow! What do you have to say about that!"
I huffed for breath waiting for Lin to answer; and then he broke down into a fit of laughter. I felt my hand twitch as the desire to smack him upside the head grew. Instead, I settled for the next best thing. I placed my hand in his hair ruffling it.
"Are you done now?" I asked as he straightened and pushed my hand away from his soft silky hair.
"Yes, that was unnecessary though," I shrugged my shoulders.
"So was laughing at me, but you did it anyway," I reminded him.
"But you were acting funny, I don't recalling every being puppy to be petted like that,"
"It was either that or a smack on the head I'd say you got off easy," I told him he smirked.
"It would appear so,"
My heart beat a little uneasy at his uncanny ability to make me all jittery with a few words. I shook my head trying to clear my thoughts.
"Well we better get going or Naru is going to start nagging me about why I'm not there if Rena is," I said in a desperate attempt to get away before I could embarrass myself. I followed behind Lin keeping quite.
"Mai tea," I walked into the kitchen but did a double take.
"Why aren't you in your bat cave?" I asked he lifted an eyebrow to look at me.
"I'll ignore that comment, but if you must know I'm here to observe," I looked to where he was pointing and saw Rena and Moto-san locked in a staring contest.
"What's up with the staring contest?" I asked but something told me it was far from that.
"Idiot it's not a staring contest, Rena's trying to posses Moto-san, it's practice as much as she would like Moto-san can't always stay hidden," Oh so that's what they were working on today. "Mai," I looked at him. "Tea,"
"Right away your Narcissistic Majesty," I smiled and went to do as I was told.
"You're not concentrating enough if I really wanted to posses you I could have done so already," Rena said I heard a huff in reply.
"It's easy to say that when your not on the receiving end," Moto-san huffed.
"Quite making excuses and try harder," that was a little harsh, why wasn't Naru saying anything.
"I'm not the one hiding things like spirits in cats!" silence fell in the next room.
"We're done for today," Rena's voice was cold and I flinched at the sound.
"Wait, I didn't mean anything I'm sorr-
"I said we're done!"
The cup fell from my hand as Rena slammed the office door shut, hiding souls huh? What an interesting theory. I didn't really understand what the big deal was. It made no sense. What was going on?
"I guess I should pick that up," I mumbled.
"I'm sorry I was out of line, she just, it's just that, I'm sorry!" Moto-san yelped.
Ow. I looked at my bleeding finger, how sad. The thing was that she was right. I could feel it. Every part of me knew that Moto-san was right, Rena knew more about that cat then she let on. If I was really honest with myself I would admit that Rena really was hiding something about that cat. The cat with intelligent blue-grey eyes.
"You're an idiot,"
I watched as Lin grabbed my hand and looked closely at it. His hand gentle took the glass out and cleaned the wound. The way his hand was on mine sent chills down my spine. His grey eyes looked up at me and he raised an elegant eyebrow. Oh, so that was it. I liked Lin, maybe loved.
Now was about the time where I turned into a blushing mess.
Lin's P.O.V
I worked gentle on her hand, trying to get the glass out without causing her discomfort. Silly girl what was she thinking picking up glass on her own. She always did that doing things on her own, it was annoying. God how many times was I going to save her until she got the picture? Don't go on your own, you worry us, you get hurt, you worry me! I furred my eyebrows and lifted one up looking at Mai. So that was it. She blushed and looked away.
"Thank you,"
"Your welcome," by the way I think I'm falling in love with you.
Rena's P.O.V
I buried my face in my pillow trying to clam my breathing. He doesn't know, he doesn't know. Now I just needed to believe it.
"Rena Lin, who would have thought that this is how you would meet your end?"
So I was right after all. Naru really needed to learn to trust me. If he did then maybe things like this wouldn't happen so much.
"You're with the people who took my brother aren't you?" I asked sitting up.
"That is none of your concern," I slide my hand under my pillow. "It's a shame you can't use your violin it would come handy right about now,"
"So that was your plan to make sure I couldn't defend myself and then attack right?" I asked curling my hand around the hilt of my shuirken.
Alright, I'll admit that it's odd for a Chinese girl to be studying things like that, but be it as it may, Ninjitsu always did interest me, and my family required us to master one type of martial arts. Fighting hand to hand with a shuriken wasn't ideal but I wasn't expecting this to happen. I preferred to keep my enemies at a distance, hence my preference for the weapon.
"Pretty much, after all you're always alone,"
"It's fine, I know I'm always going to be alone," and then I lunged for her throat.
Normal P.O.V
Veronica's hand blocked Rena and she impulsed herself away from Veronica escaping the counter attack. Veronica smirked and took out her own knife from her belt.
"I wanted to kill you in another fashion, but if you insist, perhaps we can dance a while," Veronica said.
"Why don't you tell me your name," Rena suggested attempting to find an opening as they circled each other. Veronica had a common knife, she probably wasn't expecting much of a fight.
"As if I'd be stupid enough to give my real name to a Sorceress,"
"I see, so you know more about me then you let on," Rena lunged and nicked Veronica on the cheek and barely manged to escape the sweep at her stomach but it did land on her arm. "Shit!"
Veronica was sporting a gash on her cheek from ear to chin and Rena had one on her right arm from wrist to forearm.
"Try playing your violin now," Veronica teased.
"I don't need my violin to finish you," Rena called to the Pharaoh and as he attacked Veronica he was deflected.
"Seems you've underestimated me,"
"I haven't, I knew that would happen, it appears that I just have rely on my fighting skills," she smirked. "It's not my fault if you end up dying here though,"
"What a bluffer you are," Veronica hissed.
"I'm far from it,"
An opening an opening. There! Sending a kick for Veronica's head Rena's knife darted out to hit Veronica in her upper arm.
"BITCH!"
Rena was sent flying into a nearby wall.
"Ow,"
She scanned the room and noticed the group of Spirit helpers Veronica had called.
"But how-
"Unlike you I am more then capable of using my abilities to the fullest, it seems that someone else is going to die here,"
Rena tried to get out of the way but she barely managed to roll out of the line of fire. Tipping her bed over she dove behind it panting. Stupid lying medium. If this kept any longer Rena might have trouble staying alive. Already she felt dizzy from the impact against the wall, all she could hope for was that she didn't have a concussion.
"Oh, so you've resorted to hiding how childish," conserve energy that's all that matter now.
Veronica smiled to herself as she began to call forth more Spirits however she was caught off guard by the gush she received. Not so many go away. They didn't; having kept them at bay for so long, and the constant teasing on push and pull had placed stress on the already restless spirits. No way, they wouldn't listen at this rate they would end up killing her as well.
Rena watched as the mass of Spirits began to run wild.
"Rena you need to play," Gene told here he was in Spirit form.
"But I-
"You don't have a choice,"
She might not be able to play again but. She lunged for the violin case. Standing with what little strength she had left Rena began to play a song all to familiar to her.
Franz Schubert's Ave Maria.
A minute into the song Rena's hand began to thob and sweat began to gather on her brow. She shook violently but managed to maintain a firm grip on her violin. Like the rising notes her shiki managed to overcome the invading spirits and cleansing the room around them. At the final note Rena's knee gave out and she fell to the floor. Playing the violin in her current condition took a great deal of mental and physical energy.
Rena! Her shiki gathered around her offering comfort.
"I'm fine," she panted her eyes locked with Veronica's green ones.
"I hope your aware of the debt," she said.
"I know," Veronica answered.
"When one person connected with the paranormal world save another also connected a debt is created,"
"What do you want from me?" Veronica asked.
"Let's start with your name, it isn't Moto Arica, I know that much,"
Naru's P.O.V
I opened the door to the apartment and found Rena cooking and humming to herself.
"I'm home," I announced.
"Welcome back," she said smiling sweetly.
"Where's Lin?" GD asked.
"Don't know,"
"Well isn't that convenient," Rena mumbled.
"Convenient?"
"If she has to explain then maybe you shouldn't ask," GD said I ignored it.
"Where's Moto-san?" I asked.
"She took off saying that she was ready to go home and that she was terribly sorry," Rena told me chopping salad.
"Sorry for what?" I asked trying to catch up.
"She lied, since the first moment she met us she's been lying telling us that she really had no capacity of being a medium, in reality she's quite talent, she left that check and said to please leave her be," I picked it and frowned at the huge amount.
"If this doesn't have funds I'm going to sue," I said she smiled and started to laugh. "What?" she looked at me for a while.
"Naru let's go on a date," I raised an eyebrow.
"Where do you want to go?" I asked.
"I don't know but I want to go on a date," I closed my eyes for a moment and then opened them.
"Okay,"
She smiled and placed two plates on the table.
"Let's eat,"
"Sure,"
Rena's P.O.V
I picked the dishes up and put them in the sink. Things had played out just as I wanted. Veronica was going to take us to where Syaoran was by creating the perfect case that would lure Naru in like a bees to honey. The rest, well the rest would be history. All my dear brother had to do was wait a little more. It turned out that Kazuki was right. The people who had kidnapped my brother sent Veronica in order to get rid of me. Lucky for me their plan back fired and for the moment Veronica was my personal slave.
The only real difficulty had been picking up the mess and patching myself up. All I wanted to do was curl under my covers and stay there for the a while. My arms were wrapped up, I had bruise all over my body. My head didn't have a concussion but I had a cut that my hair barely covered. It was a miracle that Naru hadn't caught on yet.
"Rena are you alright?" Naru asked wrapping his arms around my waist, I'd spoken to soon.
Any other time that would have made me into a gooey mess but at the moment it made me tense in pain.
"I'm fine," I lied trying not to hiss in pain.
"Something is wrong isn't it?"
His hands experimentally ran around my body paying close attention to the spots that made tense. I wanted to pull away but there was no where to go. I hadn't wanted to hit Naru so hard before in my life.
"Stop Noll," I whispered. He hesitated for a moment and then continued. I wanted to cry out in pain. "Okay fine!" he stopped and turned me to face him.
"Now," he crossed his arms. "What happened to you?"
"I was riding my bike and I kind of fell when a kid suddenly ran in front of me," I told him looking down.
It sounded reasonable for the amount of wounds that I had. I gasped as my shirt was suddenly gone and cold air assaulted my bare skin. I blushed to the tips of my hair.
"OLIVER DAVIS YOU PERVERT!"
His eyes assaulted my exposed form and I realized what he was doing checking my wounds. He closed his eyes for a moment and handed me his shirt which I slipped on.
"This is why you shouldn't ride motorcycles," his voice was shaking with rage and I felt guilt fill stomach. He had turned away from me so I wrapped my arms around his waist.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled pressing myself against his toned form. He pinched the bridge of his nose and finally placed a hand over mine.
"You need to be more careful," he croaked out. "We can't afford to lose you,"
I planted a gentle kiss on his back.
"Don't you mean 'I'?" I asked him playfully his grip tightened on my hands.
"If I say that will you never ride that thing again?" I was startled but I sighed.
"I'd be lying," I admitted.
"Why can't you do this one thing?" he snapped turning to me his eyes boring into mine. I placed my hands on his face.
"Trust me," I whispered. "Like I trusted you," he leaned forward and our lips were almost touching.
"Would one of you please explain to me what the hell you're doing?"
Oh why? Oh why, did my brother have to walk through that door? I shut my eyes in frustration and turned to look at a fuming Chinese man.
"What couples normally do Lin, it's called making out even you're not that old," Koujo looked like he was going to blow a casket.
"And why was I not informed of this?" he asked. "But that's irrelevant at the moment, why are you shirtless and why is your shirt of the floor?"
"It caught on fire so I had to throw it off and Noll gave me his," I said.
Wow, that was quick thinking even for myself.
"Fire?" I shrugged my shoulders.
"I guess I'm still kind of ticked about Moto-san," I said.
Oh, what a bluffer I am.
"Moto-san?"
So Noll proceeded to explain and I tossed my shirt away, it was beyond repair anyway.
Several Days Later
"So that's what happened," I had just finished telling Bou-san, Yasu, John, and Kazuki the real story about that day.
"Are you insane?" they demanded.
"What I had too fight or she was going to kill me!" I snapped they sighed.
"That was the point of a bodyguard," Kazuki told me.
"He has a point it would be a good idea,"Yasu said I shook my head.
"Out of the question," how the hell would I explain that one to Noll.
"Sure he could be a buddy of mine who shows great potential in becoming an exorcist," Bou-san said the wheels in his head turning.
"No!"
"That would be difficult, although he does seem to be into that," Kazuki mumbled. They were ignoring me.
"Well it does seem like a good idea," John said.
"I said no!"
"Alright then it's decided!" Bou-san said. "Bring him out!"
"Sure thing let me ring him up," Kazuki said.
"Is anyone listening to what I have to say?" I demanded.
"Here he is Len himself," I felt my eybrow twitch and sure enough I looked up into golden eyes.
"Should of know you would be a sneaky bastard," I told Kazuki who just grinned.
"But you still love me," how I wanted to bash his head in.
"Is that guy really that good?" Bou-san asked.
"Best I have," Kazuki said.
"Would you quite talking about me like I'm not here?" Len asked.
"Sorry about that," Yasu said. "But sit down let me fill you in how this is going to work," I gave up and put my head down. No one was listing! It was kind of nice having people take care of you though.
I'm always alone, what an interesting thing to say, Veronica.
"I'm going home,"
I heard whines follow me as I left the cafe.
"I'll take you," Len cleared his throat. "I mean I'm going to follow you I just didn't want to sound like a creep," I smiled.
"Hey at least you don't have creepy intentions," he smiled a little.
"Well let's go,"
I began to walk home but took a de-tour to the photo shop, I'd taken the film here the other day. I picked it up looked through the pictures. The snowman, the day at the park, and some silly quick pics. Living, was this really living? Would I feel like I had a life without my twin. In some deep part of me I felt guilt built in my stomach. I loved Naru and I loved Syaoran. I bite my lip. What worried me now was if I would ever have to choose between them.
Mai's Dream
I inhaled deeply it smelled good.
"Mai,"
"Syaoran,"
"Why did you do that?" he asked.
"You were going to jump off a cliff what did you want me to?" I demanded.
"Damn why the hell is this happening?" I'd never seem him act like this before. The whole forest seemed to tremble at the sound of his voice.
"Syaoran?"
"Sorry, but you need to leave, and this is just the clam before the storm,"
"Wait!" I was violently pushed from the dream and shot up in my bed.
What did he mean by calm before the storm? What was he talking about? Rena? Or was he talking about all of us?
"How I hate secrets,"
Author's Note: (Sobbing quietly) That's it for Attractions. The next story is Hoping for Tomorrow. (looks out window) It's raining and the winds picking up. All of you reading this we wish for your safety!
