ARTHUR

"He never dies." Arthur kept repeating. Morgana had stopped crying, and started listening to Arthur, confusion shown in the depths of her eyes. Why was she confused, she knew also, Merlin never dies.

"His breathing is growing weaker, he's too exhausted." Gaius informed, looking at Merlin and taking his pulse.

"There must be something Gaius, anything to bring him back." Arthur pleaded. "Even if it's magic." Morgana gasped and looked at Merlin, to Gaius and then to the Prince.

"Merlin, Merlin has magic?" Morgana questioned. Gaius on the other hand, looked surprised, shocked and a bit worried.

"Sire, I don't know-," The old man started.

"I know he has magic, and no I don't care." The Prince said, "Please, just help him." Gaius sighed and looked at Morgana who was looking at Merlin in awe.

"Even if I could do some magic on Merlin to help him, I can't. It's been so long since I was able to do magic, I know it wont work." Gaius explained. Arthur frowned and sat down.

"He's my best friend." He said, crestfallen.

"We all know that, but it's up to Merlin now." Gaius said.

GUINEVERE

Gwen was worried about Merlin. She had heard nothing since his return with the Prince, only that he was unwell. She hadn't seen her Lady since midday when she was dining with the King, so Gwen had thought that Morgana was visiting Morgana. That was fine, she could do her chores and visit later.

The maid was walking in the court yard, her basket full of washed laundry for Morgana. That's when she heard it. The sounds of metal clashing against metal, ringing through the air. It wasn't the normal, almost soft clanging of metal you would hear when the knights where training. There was no Arthur shouting orders or any knights laughing at a banter. No, this sort of clanging was quick and sharp, angry and tensed. That only meant that Arthur was there, taking his emotion out on a training dummy.

Gwen walked around to see her lover, wondering what had him in such a state. Everyone apart from the guards were near him, all out of his way. She walked around holding the basket and watched Arthur. She sighed, remembering how Merlin used to do this, just stand and wait patiently until Arthur had had enough.

"Arthur." She called out. Arthur froze at the sound of his name. His sword dropped to his side and his head hung low. She then took her chance and walked forward. "Arthur, what's wrong?" Arthur didn't answer her for several moments, but when he did, he looked up. That's when Gwen saw tears shining in his eyes.

"He's leaving us." Arthur said, brokenly.

"Who? Who is leaving us?" Gwen pressed.

"MERLIN! The bloody idiot is dying!" Arthur screamed to the heavens. He dropped to a crouch, his hands clutching his sword. "He can't die. He never dies."

Thunder rumbled in the far distance, almost too quiet to hear, but it was there. Gwen gasped, her free hand flying to her mouth.

"Merlin!" She cried, running off to Gaius' chambers.

MERLIN

So tired, so bloody tired. He couldn't feel anything, but the exhaustion that was clouding him. He hated Prince Stephen for making him like this. Merlin wanted the old days to come back, where he was awake, happy, being cheeky. He wanted to serve Arthur, like he said he would. Most of all, he wanted to for fill his destiny.

Thunder rattled so far in the distance, but he knew it was getting closer. Something was coming, and his weak magic sensed it and started to simmer through his veins. However, it died before he even tried to use it.

ARTHUR

There's a storm coming. The air is tense and warm, everyone can feel it. The Prince had retreated to his chambers and took a bath. Not that he wanted to mention it, but he was upset. Stupid, lazy, loyal Merlin was on his deathbed and no one could do anything. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't bring him out of the depths of unconsciousness the servant was lying in.

Thunder rumbled, closer this time than the other times it had been heard. It's getting closer. Arthur paced his chambers. What was he doing here when his friend was lying down in a cold chamber, a friend who might not wake up ever again?

As the door slammed shut to Arthur's chambers, he barely noticed the sky grow unnaturally dark. He barely noticed the flash of fork lightning- white fork lightning shoot across the sky, and land on one of the castle towers.

They were all sitting by Merlin's bed. Merlin's breathing had become weaker, and he was pale, far too pale. The storm was almost upon them now. A flash of bolt lighting darted across the sky, lighting up the ever so dark landscape, showing the rain on the window pane.

Then Merlin started to thrash his head gently.

"Merlin?" Arthur called out, holding his arm gently. His head stopped moving, and the room stopped quiet. CRACK. The thunder was too loud, far too loud for anyone's liking. Merlin's breathing hitched…and stayed like that.

"Merlin?" Arthur asked, leaning back in his seat. Gaius shot up, placing his ear to Merlin's heart. Regretfully, he looked at his guests in the room. Gwen burst out crying, seeking comfort in her Lady's arms. Arthur finally got the message.

"No. He can't be. He can't be."

"I'm sorry, Arthur, he's not breathing." Gaius said softly.

"HE NEVER DIES!" Arthur screamed. A bolt of lightning filled the room. Surprising everyone with it's warmth. Then a weak voice sounded from below them all.

"Who never dies?"

I'm sorry it's very short, but I had no inspiration for this chapter and as you can probably tell, this is one of the last chapters so they will be getting shorter. However, the epilogue *might* be a long one. So keep reading and thanks to everyone who reviews. I feel so proud to have written a story this popular!
