Gumball, Darwin and I had played the board game (which I was told by Darwin that it was Candyland) for a while until we heard a woman call, "Boys, dinner's ready!"
The cat and fish with legs zoomed to the kitchen, whereas I warily followed behind.
By the time I floated near the entryway, both of them were already sat at a table with a little pink girl rabbit clad in a cute orange dress, a fat pink male rabbit in a somewhat business suit, and a blue female cat that looked proper, yet welcoming.
My nerves started feeling a bit jittery. I quietly floated into the kitchen and stared at the family, afraid of how to approach them.
The grown female cat, who I assumed was Gumball's mother, noticed me first, eyes slightly widening. She turned to Gumball and Darwin and said, "Oh, who's your new friend, boys?"
After swallowing a mouth full of dinner, Gumball made a noise of realization before getting up from his chair and going over to me to put his arm around my shoulders.
I prayed that no one would notice my blush appearing. Keep it cool, Carrie.
"Everyone, this is Carrie," he introduced, merrily casual. "Carrie, this is my mom, my dad, and my sister, Anais."
I blinked. "Hey," I simply said, though I felt unbelievably shy and awkward at the moment.
"Why is she floating!?" the dad fretted, frantically pointing his finger at me.
Gumball shot him an 'Are you kidding me?' look. "She's a ghost, dad," he deadpanned.
"…Oh."
"C'mon, Carrie. You can sit by Darwin and me," Gumball offered kindly, taking his arm off my shoulders to wave me over towards the dinner table. I nodded and took a deep breath before going to the chair that was between Darwin and him.
When Gumball's mother served me food, I just stared at it with sorrow and sighed. Everybody continued to happily eat their food while Darwin talked about his day at school today.
"…and then, Gumball got hearts in his eyes again when Penny passed by in class—"
"Did not!" Gumball quickly interjected, face guiltily a deep corral red. I noticed that he was slightly sweating at his denial, too, and I started getting confused at this reaction.
"Yes, you did~" the grinning orange fish playfully teased, swirling his fork in the air at Gumball. The sweater-clad cat looked even more embarrassed.
And I was even more confused. Who was this Penny girl?
"Who's Penny?" I spoke up with a raised eyebrow.
"She's Gumball's girlfriend," Anais said with a smug smirk.
"Is not!" Gumball fired back and began chasing the little bunny around the house whilst she laughed giddily. Darwin switched back and forth from cheering on Anais to Gumball. The mom was angrily telling them to sit back down and act civilized. The dad was fast asleep.
I hovered in my chair in a bewildered daze.
Girlfriend?
Gumball had a girlfriend?
Sorry for the six day wait… ^^; Hope you enjoyed.
