Nightmares

Sesshomaru sat under a tree, looking at the stars.
Rin and Jaken were asleep by the fire side. Sesshomaru did not know what had possessed him to take the girl with him on his travels.
She was a nuisance, she just slowed him down.
He knew he should have left her in the first village he came across after healing her, but somehow he just couldn't.
Suddenly his sharp ears picked up a small whimpering sound coming from the side of the fire.
He looked over and saw Rin tossing and turning in her sleep.
"No.. Sesshomaru-sama… help me…. Leave me alone… let me go…. Sesshomaru-sama!"
Then she started to cry.
Her cries seemed to disturb Ah Un greatly for the great two headed dragon whined deep in it's throat, and smoke was gathering in it's nostrils.
Sesshomaru decided to do something about Rin before the dragon set the whole forest on fire in it's distress.
He stood and walked over to the tiny girl, crouching down he said. "Rin."
No response. Just more whimpering.
"Rin, this Sesshomaru commands you to wake up." He said as he shook her shoulder.
Rin shot up right, her brown eyes wide and filled with tears.
She looked around her frantically, when she saw him, she launched her small body into his arms and sobbed into his mokomoko.
Sesshomaru was surprised.
No one had ever clung to him like this.
"Rin, stop crying." he said harshly.
"H-h-h-hai, Sesshomaru-sama."
He sat down against the tree with her in his lap. "Go to sleep, Rin."
There was no response, but he could hear her harsh breathing and smell the fresh tear which spilled onto her cheeks.
Then a rumbling started deep within his chest.
Sesshomaru was once again surprised.
He was purring.
He, the great Sesshomaru, was purring to calm down a child.
A human child none the less.
He heard soft calm breathing in response, she had fallen asleep again.
He smiled ironically.
It was nice to be needed.
