Once inside Jade untangled herself from Beck and after a quick kiss she took off for the Black Box Theatre with a very determined look on her face.
"Good luck" Beck called after her.
"Luck is for the unprepared." Jade replied turning around a corner. Beck continued for his first class for the day. On his way there he saw Tori in front of her "Make it Shine" locker. As it has become customary after the fiasco with Steven, there were two boys trying to hit on her. Funny enough, just as her popularity amongst the boys in Hollywood Arts was reaching an all-time high, Tori, still smarting from Steven's duplicity, was not in the mood to date. Beck, with an amused smirk on his lips, decided to lend her a hand.
"Hey Tori, it's time for class, are you coming?" She hurriedly excused herself to the boys and caught up with Beck. On her way one of the books in the small pile she was caring was about to slip, so he helped her straiten it up.
"Thanks, Beck!" She said, flashing him one of her brilliant smiles. "These two were very persistent."
"Can't say I blame them." He said before caching himself. Beck stole a glance and saw a slight blush rising on her cheeks.
"By the way, why are you not on the auditions for this week's play?" he asked, stirring the conversation to a safer territory.
"I'm not auditioning for the play. I signed up for The Sing-Off."
"Jade will be very disappointed. She was looking forward to beating you for the lead."
Tori chuckled. "Well, next time." With that they separated each heading for their own classes. Just as he was about to go into his class Beck heard Lane calling him. He turned and saw the school's guldens counselor approaching in a hurry.
"Beck, I was just looking for you."
"What is it about? I was just going to class."
"Every student in Hollywood Arts is required to do at least two songs per term. You are behind on yours and the end of the term is getting close. I recommend you sign up for the next musical event." Lane checked in his notebook. "Next is The Sing-Off, I propose you sign up." With that Lane left.
"Singing is not my strongest suit, and there isn't much time. What am I going to do Andre?" Beck asked his friend later at lunch. They were sitting at a their usual table in Asphalt Café, waiting for the girls to show up.
"You could join me and Tori. The song we prepare for the Sing-Off is a duet and I'm more comfortable playing my instruments then singing anyway. We are sure to win." Andre proposed.
"Don't you need it for your own marks?"
"Nah man, I have made more than enough songs. So are you in?"
"Where are you joining in?" asked Jade. She was just sitting with them, looking like only half of the stupid things in the world annoyed her. Obviously Jade had gotten the lead. Beck kissed her and explained the situation.
"Okay, if you must," Jade said with a sigh. "But Vega better keep her lips away from you."
"Give it a rest already; it was eight months ago and mostly to get back at you for the coffee-in-the-hair." Tori sat next to Andre, slapped him of the shoulder amicably, and bit in her burger.
"That's not an excuse to kiss MY boyfriend."
"I don't know, everybody else was clapping." They continued bickering more, but the boys could sense that they were not too serious about it. The rest of the day passed in the flurry of the usual activities of a teenage boy and by the time he got to bed Beck had nearly forgotten about his dream.
