A.N. Thanks for the reviews. I included the cupcakes because, as of "Terror on Cupcake Street", Cat seems to like them. I will have your notes in mind if I ever have to write another sleepover.
Thrilling Night
"No sir, I have no idea where Jade could be." He was just about to tell Mr. West where he was and with whom when he saw Cat wildly gesticulating behind Tori's back.
"I will ask the others and will call you back." He hung up and he and Tori turned to Cat. She looked embarrassed at them.
"Cat, what is going on?" He asked the agitated redhead.
"Well, I kind of forgot, but Jade asked me to cover for her." The frantic girl answered him. Cat fumbled with her phone, wondering what to do.
"Why would she?" Beck raised an eyebrow in surprise; it wasn't like Jade to need a cover for her parents. She reveled in confronting them, especially her father.
"She wanted to go to some big party."
"The one André is at?" Cat shook head. Tori took the phone from Cat's fumbling fingers and put it away. She told them that she was going to check out The Slap and may be upload the photos of their crazy hairdos.
"No, some other one." Well, that didn't sound so bad, Beck thought, may be Jade will blow off some steam and start acting more normal. As normal as Jade can be anyway.
"Why would she ask you to cover for her for a party?" Beck didn't mean sound so incredulous but generally speaking it wasn't a good idea to depend on Cat for something like that. She was too easily distracted, as the current situation showed.
"Because she wanted to go with some older guys and her dad would never let her go if he knew." Beck frowned a little at this but quickly shook it off. Jade was single now and if she wanted to play the field a little that was her right. If he wanted to salvage at least part of their friendship may be this was a good opportunity for a good will gesture. Still he couldn't help but feel concerned.
"Okay then, call Mr. West and tell him that she is with you. Or better yet tell him that you both are at Tori's. That way if he calls at your house the story will check out." Cat's face lit up and she moved to get her phone. Beck was just turning to take his keys when Tori called him back.
"Wait a minute Beck. Sinjin has slapped me some pictures on The Slap. 'I snuck in a club. Saw Jade. She was very drunk. But still so pretty.' The pictures look pretty bad." Beck frowned, approached Tori and looked over her shoulder. On the screen of her laptop was Sinjin's page on The Slap. He could see Jade in the company of couple of older guys, may be 19 to 20 years old. On the first ones she looked normal but on the later ones Jade looked drunk.
"What is going on with her? She doesn't drink. She hates it." Beck couldn't believe his own eyes. Jade never drank any alcohol, let alone get drunk. She used to mercilessly make fun of their peers who did. She liked to say that alcohol was the way for the stupid to get rid of the brain cells they didn't use.
"She doesn't look like she is having fun." Tori observed. She was right, Beck decided after the initial shock of seeing his ex-girlfriend drunk wore off and he examined the pictures closer. Jade was sitting between the two guys with a morose expression. On the last photo one of the guys was trying to feel up a half-passed out Jade.
"Shouldn't we do something?" Tori asked, watching the last photo with alarm. It was made only fifteen minutes ago.
"What are we supposed to do? She is a big girl." Beck didn't mean for the last sentence to sound so angry. He didn't know why, but he was feeling angry, angry at these guys, angry at Jade, angry at himself even.
"Yeah, but look at her." Tori said with concern clear in her voice. "She looks like she is in trouble, or will soon be in one." She turned her face to Beck.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked her, looking in her eyes. She gave him a small smile.
"No, I am not, but we have to. Despite everything she is our friend." He gave her hand a quick gentle squeeze. That was the girl with big heart he had fallen in love with.
"Okay, We should call Sinjin or the address and ask hem top help us find her." He took his phone but then remembered that he didn't have his number. "Do any of you know Sinjin's number?" Tori shrugged her shoulders but Cat screeched and began to franticly click the buttons of her phone.
"I have it, I have it right here. I'll call Sinjin." She began searching the right number.
"You have his number?" Tori asked her with surprise in her voice.
"We worked on a project together last year. I have everyone's number anyway. You want to see?" The little redhead replied nonchalantly. She called Sinjin. He gave her the address and promised to keep an eye on Jade. Beck put Sinjin's number in his phone, took his keys and headed out.
"I'm coming with you." Tori called after him. She hurried up after him and soon they both were in his car, on route to the address Sinjin gave him. At first Beck drove silently, lost in his own thoughts.
"What are we going to do with Jade after we get her? We can't take her to her place, her parents will flip." He asked after a while. Tori frowned thoughtfully and aft a moment turned to him.
"We can bring her to my house. Trina won't notice and my parents called earlier that they will come home in the morning." Beck looked at her curiously and she continued. "Don't ask." She was glad that her parents found time for each other, but was uncomfortable speaking or even thinking about their sex life.
"Are you sure? After all she did." Beck had some reservations about bringing his drunk, probably depressed and potentially violent ex-girlfriend in the house of his current girlfriend. By the look of her face Tori wasn't too thrilled by this prospect either.
"I'm not, but it is the right thing to do." She replied firmly. Soon they reached the address Sinjin had given them. It looked like small club, slightly seedy. Beck saw Sinjin's mop of a hair and approached the gangly boy who was waiting for them.
"She is in there, on a table close to the entrance. She is quite out of it and the two guys with her are not anywhere near sober either." He said to them nervously adjusting his glasses.
"Will we have trouble getting in?" Beck asked him. He looked the club closely and didn't see a bouncer.
"No, they didn't even card me. And I put so much effort in making my fake ID." Sinjin proudly showed them his card. It was very well made but in Beck's opinion Sinjin's photo did not at all look convincingly like the 39 year old Mr. Wayne Chung it claimed to belong to.
"Okay Sinjin you and I are going to get in and get Jade out. Are you ready?" Drunk or not there were two guys with Jade and Beck could use the back up. The gangly boy's eyes bugged out in shock from the suggestion.
"I don't know Beck, these guys seem strong. I won't be of much use." He stammered. Tori caught his sleeve and his eyes focused on her.
"Don't you want to help us rescue Jade?" She asked him. Beck could see the fear and the obsession for Jade to battle in his head. In the end the obsession won.
"Okay, I'm in!" The three of them walked in. The club, if you could call it that, was dark, with loud music blaring and strong smell of cigarettes in the air. They quickly found Jade and her companions. The three of them sat around a small table. Jade was sitting with her head lying on the table. She was dressed in a skin tight pants and a black top with low-cut neckline. The guys sitting on her sides looked ordinary, if a bit rough. Beck could tell by their unfocused gazes that they had more than a few drinks. One of them had his hand down the back of Jade's top and was clumsily trying to undo her bra. Beck clenched his fists, took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. He approached the table and addressed the guys with a calm and confidant voice.
"Hi guys, I'm here to collect my friend here. It's way past her bedtime." He grabbed Jade by the arm and tried to lift her up. The guy who was just trying to undo her bra pulled her back down and unsteadily rose on his feet.
"Yeah? We were just beginning to have a good time. I don't think she wants to go." Beck could see the challenge in his bloodshot eyes.
"I'm afraid I must insist." Beck's voice was firm. He pulled Jade back up. Now the other guy stood up and unsteadily moved next to his friend.
"I'm afraid I must refuse." The first one, who seemed less drunk, said. He made a move to grab Jade's arm but she jerked it away and he missed. That didn't seem to deter him any. His gaze stopped on Tori and he leered.
"As a matter of fact why doesn't your pretty friend join us?" Beck clenched his fists and began to assess the imminent fight. He could take on one of the guys since he was drunk enough to be uncoordinated, but two would be very hard to manage and Sinjin wouldn't be much of a help. His train of thought was interrupted by a bright flash.
"Hay, what was that." One of the guys asked. Beck turned his head and saw Tori with her phone pointed at the two.
"I just took a picture of you two. I think I'm going to send it to my father, he is a cop. I'm sure that two fine young gentlemen like you have had a few run-ins with the police. I wonder what they will do if they saw you getting a 16 year old girl drunk." She calmly stated and smiled. The confidence with which she said it and the alcohol in their blood made the two relent. Beck used the moment and before the two could see trough Tori's bluff he grabbed Jade and with Sinjin's help dragged her out of the club. Once outside they quickly climbed in Beck's car. Beck and Tori sat in the front, Jade and Sinjin in the back. Once the club disappeared from his rearview mirror Beck turned to Tori and saw the adrenalin fueled excitement in her eyes. They both began giggling uncontrollably. After they calmed down Beck turned his attention to the back seat. Jade had passed out with her head on Sinjin's bony shoulder and Sinjin who looked half-scared half-delighted by the situation was trying valiantly not to look down her low cut top. Beck first stopped by Sinjin's house where he dropped the exited boy. The lanky boy, who exclaimed that this has been more thrilling than the time he had gotten the tooth of Teddy Roosevelt's cousin, bid them goodnight. Beck made him promise to take his pictures of tonight down from The Slap. The next stop was the Vega's house where he carried Jade in and left her in the cares of Cat and Tori. After a quick kiss goodbye from Tori and a promise to come back first thing in the morning he headed home. Once there the exhaustion from the long and exiting day finally hit him. He barely had the energy to get a shower before he dropped on his bed and drifted in deep dreamless sleep.
