I've been wanting to write a Malcolm In The Middle story for a while, since it's one of my favorite shows. This is basically what I hope happened after the show ended. Enjoy!

This was the last thing they had expected.
He had nearly had a heart attack when he was lying in bed, talking about how everything had gone just as they'd planned, and Lois had come out of the bathroom with a positive pregnancy test. He remembered screaming, then…nothing.
Just as they had been with the announcement of her pregnancy with Jamie, the boys were none too pleased. But Malcolm was at Harvard, Reese was living with Craig, and Francis was enjoying hiding his corporate job that he loved from Lois. Only Dewey and Jamie were left at home. Dewey wasn't exactly thrilled, but he handled it better than his big brothers. And Jamie was still young enough not to know what was going on.
Now here they were, just a day after the new year, and Hal was walking around the hospital room with his brand new child cradled in his arms. Lois was asleep in the bed a few feet away, and he stayed as quiet as he could to keep from disturbing her rest.
Walking over to the window, he looked out at the starry night sky. The best things he had ever done in his meager life were his kids. Did he wish he could have been a better provider? Of course. A better parent? Absolutely. But he had done the best he could. He loved his kids, and his kids loved him.
He looked down at the baby sleeping in his arms. But now… now he felt complete.
"Hello, Abigail Rose," he whispered to his youngest child, his only daughter. Lois had been convinced that she was carrying another boy, and Hal couldn't blame her. After five boys, it was expected. But he had kept a small hope in his heart that she would finally have a little girl. They had chosen the name Abigail because it meant her father's joy, and she really was. Each of his boys were special to him in their own way, but what he felt for his little girl astounded him.
He snuggled Abigail closer and kissed her tiny forehead.
"I love you, Abs."
