Chapter 3: Las Plagas

Kyle and Angela entered the hut and reunited with Dave Snyders. Dave was twenty-six years of age, he had messy black hair and black eyes, he was six feet tall and weighed sixty-nine kilos. He was currently dressed in a pair of faded jeans and a black hooded top along with black socks and shoes. Although covered by his clothes Dave's distinguishing characteristic was large scar which started on his left shoulder and went across his chest, downwards until it reached his waist. He was also a Raccoon City survivor who had escaped just before the T-103 had been released into the city, like some of the other members, such as two of the men on Bravo team and one on Charlie team, Dave was also happily married to a woman named Mary, he also had a young daughter named Michelle. He was armed with two shotguns and two submachine guns along with plenty of ammo for both types of weapon. He still seemed tense but when he saw Kyle and Angela enter the room he relaxed and smiled.

Once he was certain they hadn't been followed he turned to them and spoke.

"Sorry if I spooked you guys but with those 'Ganados' I think I heard them get called, I couldn't' take any chances," He explained, apologetically.

Kyle and Angela looked at each other smiling before Angela answered.

"It's fine Dave, really," She told him, smiling.

"Yeah, we're just glad you're okay," Kyle explained, "Your last transmission got cut off".

Dave sighed and nodded.

"Yeah, that's because those Ganados attacked and destroyed my radio."

Kyle nodded and then his expression turned serious.

"So what is this Las Plagas thing you were trying to tell us about?" He asked

Dave sat down in the small wicker chair that was essentially the room's only feature.

"Okay, Las Plagas is a kind of viral parasite that has to be ingested for it to infect the host, there are different types, in some cases these can take over the host and mutate them into monsters, some allow control of the other monsters too, these are called Master Plagas." He explained, he paused and then continued. "There different from Umbrella's viruses because there is no decay of the skin and the host retains many of their original brain functions, their aggression is enhanced but otherwise they look completely normal, except they are more durable to damage, only the classic headshot can kill them, or mutate them and make the Plagas emerge."

He thought for a moment and then added, "If the host takes too much damage the Plagas mutates to increase power and become more dangerous, once that's killed there's nothing to save the host then."

Now it made sense, those people out there had been infected with Las Plagas, but how did they come to be infected.

"Do you where the Plagas are coming from?" Kyle asked.

"There's a group of people here, bio-terrorists, three of their members are leaders here, they've been distributing the Plagas around the area and inside the castle where they live," Dave explained, "There's a lab where they create more, don't know where they got all this though, never got a chance to interrogate any of them".

Angela thought for a moment.

"Do you think those three are infected with Master Plagas?" She asked.

"I should think so, the way the others obey them," Dave replied with a sigh, "Coupled with the fact they don't seem to react to normal injuries, yeah I think they're infected."

Kyle nodded.

"Okay well, I think our missions are the same, retrieve a sample and stop the Plagas if it proves to be dangerous," He stated before deciding "So this all do this together."

"Roger," Angela replied enthusiastically.

"Got it, let's go."

They then left the hut and finally Kyle took a good look at the village.

It was large, for a village and consisted of several wooden houses, only a few of them having more than one floor, however further into the village were a few stone built dwellings with at least two maybe three floors, evidently belonging to the richer residents. Finally at the very back was a large old castle, the stone's that made up its walls looked ancient and appeared to be crumbling. All three of them armed themselves and entered the village, it was suspiciously deserted, they walked through the wooden buildings, looked for any sign of life. They made it to the central courtyard for the wooden buildings, the poor part of the village. And then a shout in Mexican Spanish got their attention, they realised that it had been an ambush, but now it was too late they were surrounded. The Ganados closed in, all armed with crude weapons although two more of those chainsaw wielders were also there. Deciding not to waste time Kyle pulled out his shotgun and Angela readied her submachine pistol, deciding to balance the others out Dave use done of his shotguns and one of submachine guns, one in each hand. As the Ganados closed in to attack all three of them opened fire on the encroaching horde of Infectees, aiming for the head or, if one got too close for comfort, the knee and then the head. Eventually, after several of them dropped dead the chainsaw wielders began to approach, seeing this Kyle and Angela quickly opened fire on the heads, Dave did the same, firing at two at once. Once they were dead the remaining group began to approach, along with even more from behind the houses, things were looking desperate when suddenly a large bell rang out, it was coming from the chapel, attached to the castle. Much to the surprise of the trio the Ganados stopped attacking and began to walk towards the castle, as if in a trance, within moments they were gone, allowing the trio to catch their breath and reload. Kyle was the first to speak.

"That was weird." He stated.

Angela agreed, "Yeah,"

Dave sighed and explained.

"I don't know, maybe it's something to do with the Plagas or something but that bell is like a call," He thought for a moment and then continued, "They're being called to the chapel, probably to receive orders or something like that".

The others nodded, it was the best guess they could come up with and probably the closest they'd get to the truth. They then decided to split up and search the 'poor district' of the village, this took a little while and when they reunited and revealed what they had found they were now fully equipped with a lot more ammo than what they started with and Kyle and Angela now had the same weapons as each other. Now that they were prepared they began to head towards the 'rich district' of the village, the stone built dwellings, hoping to find information there.
