Chapter 11: To the Throne Room
The trio began to hurry down the corridor they were in until they reached a four way fork. They looked around, the walls were carved with strange dragon like creatures, each with different coloured eyes. Kyle examined the map and then spoke.
"According to this map we've gotta go left and then right before going straight on at the third fork," He said, reading from the map.
Angela sighed.
"Are you sure we can trust that map," She asked, concerned, "That woman gave us it and how do we know we can trust her".
Kyle shook his head.
"We've got no choice."
"Yeah, he's right, let's get going," Dave replied.
They hurried down the passageway, following the directions exactly; as they were preparing to head for the third four way fork they spotted Ganados approaching them. Without breaking stride they pulled out their handguns and fired at the Ganado, killing them. They also heard the sound of pursuing Ganados, they shot over their shoulders at the Ganado, they were in a hurry so they didn't stop to see if they had killed their pursuers, Kyle quickly checked the map and memorized it. He then led the others taking them through various turns, it was then Kyle began to see a pattern, every turn they took they seemed to be following the carvings of green eyed dragons, realizing this would lead them the right way he made sure to follow them. Just then they stopped, they found themselves at a door, it wasn't the throne room but it was unlocked and looked like some sort of office. They entered the room and began to examine it, there were several pieces of paper including what looked like a detailed report of the Las Plagas being used in the area. Just then the radio went off, Kyle quickly answered it.
"Hey Kyle," Amy greeted with a smile.
"Amy, where's Rachel gone?" He asked.
Amy laughed at the confusion in Kyle's voice.
"Coffee break, anyway, those files you just saw, they're important," Amy explained, "We'll need them to create a vaccine, so the boss wants you to take them with you."
"Roger, we'll check back as soon as possible," Kyle replied, "We're going after the guy responsible for all of this."
"Okay, good luck."
Kyle shut off the radio and picked up the reports, placing them in the small side-pack he had with him, nodding to the others he prepared himself and they returned to the maze like hallways and prepared to follow the map again.
Meanwhile, in the throne room itself Manuel was pacing, obviously agitated, just then his phone rang, he answered it.
"Yes."
The voice that answered was cold, merciless, he recognized it as his mysterious benefactor.
"Things haven't gone as planned, have they now Manuel," He stated darkly.
"It's you, those BSAA fools have torched my labs, they've taken one of the two main Plagas samples," Manuel explained, "I've taken steps to protect the second but I'll need you to send me another sample."
There was silence for a moment and then.
"No, there won't be another sample," the benefactor replied.
"What?"
The voice laughed before continuing,
"You have blundered into your own trap Manuel, besides, you were just a pawn." He replied, making careful use of the irony, "I used you to test the capabilities of the Plagas sample and to improve on it with the results I find, I must thank you or all the test data".
Manuel's eyes widened in shock, he thought he had been manipulating everything but it turned out he was also being manipulated, all by his benefactor. Dropping all pretence Manuel spoke, trying to sound braver than he felt, for some reason the sound of this man's voice was enough to send chills up his spine, he also named his benefactor, had the BSAA been present they would've reacted in shock.
"Listen, Wesker. I need more stuff and more time, otherwise this operation will fail," He remarked angrily.
"The operation failed the moment Kyle Harvey was assigned to take it on, he's the one who frustrated all my plans in the past," Wesker replied darkly, "Face it Manuel, you're finished, I've no interest in helping a lost cause".
Before Manuel could object further Wesker hung up. Manuel glared at the phone and then snapped it shut before pocketing it.
'Fine, no matter, I can still stop them." He declared, "I still have my own Plagas after all'.
Smirking again Manuel decided to wait for his enemies to show up, then he would give them a demonstration of real power.
Having retrieved the reports on the Plagas Sample the trio returned to the maze and continued towards the throne room, this time following the dragon carvings with blue eyes. Once again they were pursed by Ganado, they also found their path blocked several times however they simply fired at their attackers while still running, killing a few of them. Soon they lost their pursuers and ran down another corridor marked with a blue eyed dragon carving, just then they saw a large antechamber ahead and standing in it was four Dr. Salvadors. Again without breaking stride the trio fired at them, their shots got lucky and killed three of them, Kyle and Angela swiftly dodged the last one as it swung the chainsaw, Dave had managed to get behind it and snap its neck, killing it. Catching their breath and making sure their guns were fully loaded, they still had a decent supply of ammo left, they then looked up at the large double doors before them. The doors to the throne room, Kyle turned and placed a hand on Angela's shoulder.
"Are you ready for this," He asked.
"You bet," She replied.
Kyle nodded, however he wasn't reassured, maybe the kidnapping had affected Angela in someway, she was definitely paler than normal. He knew however that she wouldn't say anything about it so he kept quiet and turned to Dave.
"You ready?" He asked.
"Let's do this, huh," Dave replied confidently.
"Alright, let's go."
So the trio walked towards the throne room doors, ready for their confrontation against Manuel Verga.
