Chapter 12: A Surprise Return
As the trio of agents were on their way to the throne room Shaye headed down another hidden corridor. It was time for her to complete her mission, she had to retrieve a sample of Las Plagas, the agents already had sample A, her mission was to retrieve sample B, one that was so closely guarded and hidden that the agents wouldn't have been able to get it, even if they knew where it was, without the death of at least one of them. Shaye not only knew where it was but could also find a way past all the guards and retrieve the sample. As she turned the corner of the corridor she was currently in she found herself facing three Dr. Salvadors and two normal Ganados. Shaye smirked.
"A welcome party, how sweet," She remarked sarcastically.
All five charged at once, the Dr. Salvadors raised their chainsaws, the normal Ganados their pitchforks. Shaye shook her head and sighed.
"Do they have to make it so easy?"
Without even blinking she pulled out her handgun and immediately killed the two normal Ganado, the Dr. Salvadors approached and two of them went to attack. Shaye smirked again realising their position, she simply ducked and let them carve each other up, only one was left. Before this one could act Shaye rolled around behind it, she stood up and snapped its neck, shaking her head she continued towards the room which held the sample.
She entered the room, it consisted of a long corridor leading to a circular room, in that room was a table, on the table was the case holding the sample. Shaye sighed, the corridor had to be booby trapped, reaching into her backpack she placed on a pair of infra-red goggles. Sure enough there were several infra-red beams criss-crossing the corridor, no doubt linked to some other security measure. Closer inspection revealed it.
'Crude...but effective,' She thought to herself.
Each infra-red beam was connected to an explosive device which, once a beam as tripped would set off a chain reaction and blow up the whole corridor and destroy the sample and whoever had attempted to retrieve it. Shaye sighed, she had been right, the agents wouldn't have been able to retrieve this one, they were strong and fast, and flexible they weren't flexible enough to fit through these gaps. Placing her backpack down and making sure to fix up her dress so that it remained tight-fitting, Shaye stepped forward and prepared to head down the corridor. Immediately she began by ducking under the first beam and she continued ducking, weaving and diving between the beams, in some cases only just avoiding the beams. Finally she made it to the other side and landed safely, she carefully examined the table, there was nothing here, she breathed a sigh of relief.
'They were depending on their booby trap in the corridor to stop intruders;' She mused quietly, 'if there had been something here to protect it I wouldn't be able to retrieve it.'
Picking up the sample case and turning around Shaye noticed a door, one that undoubtedly led to the way the people in charge came in, it was the only way to leave after activating the trap after all. She then saw what she was looking for, a control panel; she hurried over and inputted a code she had read in Manuel's files. The infra-red beams deactivated, Shaye removed her infra-red goggles and, with the sample case in hand she hurried down the corridor, it was time for her to escape. She quickly activated the her radio and spoke to the boss, she was to reach a secluded section of the forest where a helicopter would pick her up, she agreed and closed her radio before picking up her backpack, placing the case and infra-red goggles in the backpack, finally ready she prepared to head for the extraction point.
She hurried through the building, either killing or dodging the Ganados that got in her way. When she arrived at the large hall, having just made it through the burnt out labs she saw to her surprise, Fernando Gomez still alive. He turned to face her, he then glared.
"Ah, the spy reveals herself, yes, I knew all along." He revealed confidently, "Now I will put you out of your misery and take that sample back before getting my revenge".
Shaye drew her gun.
"You were shot in the head, how are you...?" She remarked, surprised. "Of course, the Plagas, guess I better get serious then."
"Ha, that won't save you, how lucky for me," He remarked with an evil smirk. "The bitch in the black dress is the first to witness my true power".
He then mutated due to his Plagas. The man's muscle mass considerably increase until it ripped his shirt to shreds, suddenly his left arm began to mutate and soon a large, jagged blade took the place of his left arm, his partially healed head wound now fully healed and he growled at Shaye.
"This is your end bitch."
He then rushed at her and stabbed out with his bladed arm; she quickly dodged and immediately began looking for a way to turn the fight to her advantage. She continued to open fire and dodge the attacks all the while viewing her surroundings. Finally she saw a way to win this easily, taking cover to reload and to make Fernando step into the area she wanted him to, he did. With a smirk she stepped out and fired one shot, before Fernando could react he found himself pinned under a chandelier that had been shot from the ceiling. She walked over to him and smirked.
"I guess your power isn't that impressive," She remarked before revealing, "At least, not against someone who was able to turn it against you."
"You bitch, I'll kill you!" He bellowed and Shaye knew she had to act fast or he would get back and be stronger than ever.
Shaye shook her head.
"No, I've just killed you," She said with finality.
With that Shaye pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin before casually tossing it and letting it land on the back of Fernando's neck. She then stepped back and watched with a grim smile as the panicked Fernando struggled briefly before suddenly the grenade exploded, destroying the vital part of his body, the head, unlike other Las Plagas, Fernando's took refuge in his head and so it was blown up along with him. He was finally dead, for good this time.
Taking a moment to smooth her hair and dress Shaye nodded briefly, focusing herself and she then turned and began to hurry to the extraction point. Once she reached it she climbed aboard the helicopter and set down her backpack and after making sure the sample was still in one place she contacted her boss.
"Was the mission successful?" The man asked.
"Yes, I've retrieved sample B, the agents have sample A," She remarked, "Once they finish their mission the vaccine can be created."
"Good work, this could not have happened without you."
Shaye smiled and leaned back in her seat, closing her compact disguised radio. Her mission finally accomplished.
