A/N: So here is a slightly longer chapter 2. Chapters are still not the length I want them to be but still... I hope this is a bit of an improvement from chapter 1, sorry about there not being loads of Sam/Dylan yet...

Dixie and Jeff pulled up to the scene of the crash 5 minutes after they had received the shout. They couldn't help but be shocked as they observed the picture before them. There was at least 2 cars and a massive lorry that had been involved. One of the cars looked like it had been severely hit at the front and the other was lying upside down.

"Right Jeffrey" Dixie said. "There's at least 3 people that need attending to and there's 2 of us. We need to have a look at the state of everyone first but we'll probably need to call in some backup"

Jeff beside her nodded and they decided to split up, checking on the vehicles they could see. In total among the cars there was 7 people injured. One car contained a family of 4, including 2 children under 5. The second car contained 2 people and in the lorry one man.

"Looks like we'll need that backup after all" Jeff told Dixie. "The mother and one of the kids in the family are seriously injured as well as the driver of the second car"

"Right I'll go and call the hospital, ask for one of the doctors to come down to help"

As Dixie drew closer to the ambulance to get her phone, she noticed another car down the ditch at the edge of the road. "Jeffrey!" She called out knowing that someone else was in trouble.

Jeff ran over to Dixie and they began to climb down to the car. As they approached, Jeff realised who the man behind the drivers seat was. "Dixie it's Dylan" he muttered, scared to see a college.

"Dylan. As in our Dylan?" She replied walking over. As soon as she saw him she looked away quickly. If there was one thing she hated about this job it was treating people she knew. "Right I'll go and phone the hospital, get some back up and warn them that we're going to be looking after one of our own..."

Sam walked into work feeling anxious. She still hadn't shook the feeling that something wasn't right and it had been bugging her all night. She walked into the staff room and was greeted by Tom sitting on the sofa.

"Hey Sam, you haven't seen Dylan have you?" He asked as he looked up from his magazine.

"What do you mean? Has he not turned up for his shift?"

"Nope. He's 30 minutes late. This is only the second time since he started work here that he's been late. In fact he's normally early. Do you think we should worry?"

Sams nerves were already on edge and hearing that Dylan had not turned up for work, was not something that was going to help calm them. Yet it was probably nothing, right?

"Don't worry too much Tom. Knowing Dylan he's probably out walking Dervla and didn't realise the time. I'm sure he'll be here soon" She replied, although she wasn't sure if she was trying to comfort Tom or herself.

Once changed Sam walked out of the staff room and into the busy ED. She went over to the nurses station to find an interesting case to get stuck into to take her mind off what Tom had said. As she drew nearer she overheard Nick telling Tom about a crash that had occurred with multiple injuries and from what she could hear she realised Nick was asking Tom to go down and help.

"I'll go down Mr Jordan" she butted in, knowing that a car crash with lots of people to treat would help her forget her worries for a while.

"Sam, we need to have a talk in a minute, could you could go down to my office and wait there. I'm sure Tom will be fine to go down to the scene" He replied, anxiously.

"I'm seriously okay to help Nick. In fact I want to. Tom would be more useful here to wait for the patients to come in."

"Sam. I'm sorry but I can't let you go down. Please just go to my office and wait for me there. I need to finish talking to Tom" Nick replied, trying to control his breathing.

"What aren't you telling me?" She replied, knowing when people were lying. The bad feeling from earlier was rising again and she was starting to shake as the words tom had said floated through her mind. "It's Dylan isn't it" She whispered, horrified at her discovery.

Nick looked away from Sams eyes, scared by the fear that he could see in them. "Sam, I'm sorry but he was hit by a lorry this morning. He's alive but he's in a critical condition. Please go wait at my office so we can await any more news"

"No, I'm going down there. I have to help him Nick, I have to. Just let me help" She pleaded her voice breaking. She tried to compose herself, not wanting to show her work colleges her weaknesses.

"I'm sorry Sam but I can't. It wouldn't be fair on the other people involved if your emotions took over. Stay here and you can see him when they bring him in"

"Of course you're right." Sam replied sighing. She walked over to the computers breathing heavily and positioned herself so she could easily hear Mr Jordan telling Tom the final details of the crash, including where it happened.

Once she knew where to go, Sam went to the staff room, grabbed her car keys and sneaked out the hospital getting into her car. She couldn't leave him there, she was all he had. Tears streamed out of her eyes as she imagined him alone, bloody and bruised in a car. Wiping the tears away she set off, not caring what Mr Jordan had said. She knew her grumpy needed her and she wasn't going to give up on him just because of some stupid rules...
