A/N: Heyy, So I'm going away for 2/3 weeks so there is going to be a massive gap before the next chapter, sorry! But here is the third chapter, sorry about any mistakes I haven't had time to check it properly. I should also add that I'm 16 and have NO medical knowledge so everything said is purley made up aha!
Sam arrived at the scene just after Tom did. She composed herself after letting her emotions get the better of her and walked out the car.
"Right what have we got?" She asked Tom who was staring at her, obviously concerned as to why she was there.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Jordan told you to stay at the hospital. You're not going to be doing anyone any favours down here"
"I have to be with him Tom. He lost contact with his family and he isn't one for friends. I'm all he has. Just please let me go see him. I'll stay out of your way, just let me look after him"
Tom sighed, realising that although Sam had broken the rules, she had done it with the best intentions. "Fine, Dylan's down there in the car. He's fractured his neck and we're worried about him being paralysed. He was also hit severely hard on his stomach and we are scared about the possibilities of an internal bleed. Apart from that its just cuts and bruises as far as we can tell but he is in a critical state. Go see him Sam, but no treating him, understood?"
Sam nodded and climbed down into the ditch. She couldn't help but gasp when she saw his body tangled up inside the car. She reached inside the car and took his hand, which was too cold for sam to feel confident about.
"Hey its okay" she whispered soothingly as she heard him give a faint groan of pain "I'm here now, everything's going to be fine"
"Sam?" Dylan murmured, still half out of it from the drugs that he'd been given, which clearly hadn't helped with the pain much so far.
"Yeah it's me." She replied kissing his hand and stroking his face.
Jeff came down the ditch and saw Sam with Dylan. He'd been told by Tom that Sam was here and from what he could see it seemed like the young doctor still cared about her the man in front of her.
"Hey princess" he called out to Sam. "The fire crew will be here shortly to help pull Dylan out. We can't do much till then as we can't see all of his injuries clearly enough. Stay with him and keep him talking alright, but don't do anything else"
"Okay, thanks Jeff" She replied, looking up from her dylans body.
Jeff came over to sit next to Sam and put his hand on her shoulder. "You okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine. It's grumpy we should be worrying about not me" she replied, indicating Dylan when she said grumpy to make sure Jeff understood. Jeff smiled and put his arm around Sam, knowing she wasn't as okay as she was making out.
~oO0Oo~
A few hours later the fire crew had finally been able to cut Dylan out of the car and Tom was now assessing his injuries properly.
"Its as we suspected his neck injury could mean a possible paralysation, temporary or permanent. His stomach is swollen and I'm worried about the chances of a bleed so we need to get him to the hospital as soon as possible please Dixie. I have to stay here with the other ambulance crew to await for the last patient to be helped out"
"Okay, sounds good" She replied as they got Dylan into the ambulance. "I'm assuming you're coming with us?" she asked sam who just nodded in reply.
Sam climbed up into the ambulance and sat down next to Dylan. She clutched his hand and felt a ring on his finger. He still wore his ring? Of course Sam would never have noticed this before as rings were counted as health hazards in the NHS and weren't allowed to be worn, but the fact that he still wore his out of work, even though they were getting a divorce, made fresh tears fall down her face.
Next to sam, Dixie noticed the tears falling on her friends face and bought Sam into a hug. "It's okay to cry sometimes sweetheart." she whispered in Sams ear.
Sam pulled herself out of the hug. "I'm fine" she replied as she calmed herself down. She was ashamed that she had cried when Dylan needed her to be strong.
As the ambulance drove it became clear to Sam that Dylan couldn't breathe properly. His BP was falling rapidly and she realised that if she didn't do something he would shortly arrest. She looked at Dixie and realised she had come to the same conclusion.
"I'm going to have to put a line in" Sam told her, trying to keep her voice calm. She'd done this hundred of times and just because it was Dylan shouldn't change anything.
"Are you sure" Dixie replied anxiously, not wanting to put sam in this position.
"If I wait for him to get to the hospital it might be too late"
Dixie nodded realising she was right. She got the equipment ready and passed sam the first tube. Sam took it with shaking hands before trying to calm herself down. She then took the tube and began to push it down Dylans throat...
A/N: So as usual, if you enjoyed or have any feedback please review and remember there will be no update for a while, sorry!
