A Watched Toaster Nevers Toasts

"Sherlock? What are you doing?"

"Making toast."

"Um. You're, well, you know, you're kind of staring at the toaster. In a... somewhat weird way."

"I'm waiting."

"Waiting."

"Yes. Waiting. It takes so long."

"It probably takes a minute, minute and a half."

"A waste of time."

"I'm surprised you're making it yourself, actually."

"I can fend for myself, thanks."

"Considering I have to constantly remind you to actually get the toast out of the toaster to begin with-"

"That's why I'm waiting. Watching. I won't forget."

"... So, you're making an attempt to save me my time? So I don't have to remind you about the toast?"

"No, I'm simply unhappy with the cold toast I've been eating. Ugh, John! Why does it take so long!?"

"It hasn't been that long, Sherlock."

"It's so slow!"

"Well, you know what they say."

"What? What who says?"

"'A watched pot never boils.'"

"What's that rubbish?"

"Proverb...? You know, a saying."

"I know what a proverb is."

"But you haven't heard the one about the watched pot. Right."

"Ugh, it's been ages- I could be halfway through an experiment by now!"

"Sherlock, it's barely been a minute. Sherlock. Sherlock."

"What do you want?!"

Sherlock whipped his head around, half glaring at John. John stared back at him calmly. John proceeded to laugh when Sherlock flinched when the toast popped up.

"See? I told you. 'A watched pot never boils.' I guess a watched toaster never... toasts?"

"Oh, shut up, John- ow! It's hot!"

John only picked up his teacup and exited the kitchen, laughing to himself as he went.

I honestly don't think I totally captured Sherlock's impatience here, but it's alright. Sherlock needs to learn some patience. He just never wins, does he? He puts in bread, walks away, forgets about it because he gets distracted with an experiment. He puts in bread, watches the toaster, and has to be subjected to waiting. Poor Lockie.

(... I really did just call him Lockie. [I only do that not to his face...] xD)
