Perks Of Being a Wallflower Quotes Competition

Five minutes of a lifetime were truly spent, and we felt young in a good way.

Prompts: music, silence

The sun rose far too quickly for her tastes and she mourned the lack of sleep she'd had that night. However, it was inevitable, as the sorrow was still fresh in her heart and her eyes still red from the tears she'd wept. She pulled at the chain around her neck, feeling it feed on her negative emotions.

Her roommate, if you could call it so, hadn't slept much at all, only a couple of hours. She knew, because, at five in the morning he was wide awake and up preparing a small, measly breakfast. With little enthusiasm, they sat and ate slowly, ignoring the elephant in the room. It hurt her to say or think it, and it hurt him too.

In a trance like state, she then stood and went to lie on her bed, shutting her eyes and finally falling to sleep. Vaguely, she heard him say a few comforting words and felt him pull the blanket over her tired body.

Sitting by the same table they dined at, for a while, he watched her sleep, hating how she frowned unconsciously and how a tear sometimes slid down her cheek. By the time she woke up, it was getting darker and he had gotten a few more hours of sleep.

He fiddled around with his Marauder's Map, watching some students walk around, for a while, not really paying attention to it.

He heard low music from the radio and saw she was sitting by the radio. He sat on a nearby chair, feeling a bit restless and sad, watching her as she idly looked at the radio, not seeing anything at all. Her fingers, he caught, were interlocked and holding her legs. Then, he had an idea.

Standing up almost immediately he went over to her, not startling her despite his quiet footsteps, and extended a hand to her. She hesitated, but accepted it, and he carefully pulled her up. He removed the locket from her neck and threw it to the side.

She stayed quiet as he pulled her and walked backwards, to the middle of the room. When she saw what he was doing – which was trying to cheer her up by dancing – she lamely protested, but he just kept moving around. She felt somewhat cheered at his attempts, and he saw this, as he started circling with her, eliciting a small smile from her.

He spun her and her smile grew, as did his, as they danced the song more enthusiastically. They took turns spinning each other and they simply danced freely, doing random things they fancied. He did some ridiculous footwork, almost tripping in twisting his ankles and hips, but she pulled him up and spun him in a circle. They did an improvised waltz, with their clasped hands in front, and then they let go and, again, spun her around.

For a few minutes they kept at it, she hid her smile poorly and he didn't even try. They slowed down to just hugging each other, but they both felt cheered up as they turned on the spot, stopping as the music started to fade out. She looked at him, the momentary cheerful feeling gone, and walked away as the song stopped and the silence began.

I'm not sure I properly described the dancing, but I'll probably rewrite it in the future. The part in italics is basically an 'introduction' to the main part of the very short one shot that I couldn't delete.

I'd say it's alright, I suppose. And it's sort of my take on the quote given to me in this challenge [at the top]. I think it fits, but I'm not sure if it's long enough.
