Chapter 5
Aslan's Army and Maurgrim's attack
The girls walked with the Beavers as silence grew between Peter and I as we walked side by side. I happened to glance to the side seeing him watching me. "What's the matter Peter?" He sighed looking at me then taking my hand.
"I thought we lost you. When you weren't with us and then Lucy was gone. I would have never forgiven myself." We stopped walking just staring at each other. "Bridget I…" He started to say when Lucy called out for us.
"Bridget! Peter! What are you doing?" Letting go of his hand running to catch up to everyone blushing like a tomato. Peter came up behind me but didn't say anything. As we continued our way towards the camp the Beavers were talking about.
The camp site of Aslan's army was huge and I was growing more and more nervous the closer we got. A horn was blown signaling our arrival. Walking through the camp many different creatures watched us as we moved along the path. They even started following behind.
"Why are they staring at us?" Susan questioned slightly out of the side of her mouth.
"Maybe because you look funny." Lucy joked causing Peter and I to chuckle. Mrs. Beaver started fussing with her fur when Beaver told her to stop and that she was fine. Coming to a stop in front of a creature that I remembered being called a centaur.
"We have come to see Aslan." Peter raised his sword in the air. Everyone around us started to bow. Then a majestic lion came out of a tent causing us to bow like the others.
"Welcome Peter son of Adam, Welcome Bridget, Susan, and Lucy daughters of Eve. And welcome to you beavers you have my thanks. But where is the fifth?" Aslan asked.
"That is why we are here." Peter said looking down. Feeling the need to take his hand to let him know that he has a friend.
"We had a little trouble along the way" Susan said quickly.
"Our brother has been captured by the white witch." Peter explained.
"How did this happen?" Aslan asked.
"He betrayed them your majesty." Beaver ratted earning a glare from me.
"Then he has betrayed us all." The centaur exclaimed angrily.
"Peace Oreius, I am sure that there is an explanation." Aslan looked at us.
"It's my fault. I was too hard on him," Peter said.
"We all were." Susan mentioned.
"Sir he's our brother," Lucy chimed in.
"That makes the betrayal worse dear one. This may be harder than we thought," Aslan said.
We were escorted to our tents so that we could freshen up and change into clean clothes. Choosing the men's outfit of a leather tunic, a long sleeved shirt, pants and boots that went up to mid calve. I sat my da's pants lovingly on my bed before I left the tent. Looking around I noticed Peter talking to Aslan. I walked up to them as Aslan discussed Cair Paravel with him. I didn't want to disturb them so turning around heading back down when Aslan called out.
"Come Bridget." I bowed my head coming up to them. "I was just discussing how Peter will sit at one of the thrones as High King. And you will sit right beside him."
"But I thought him and his siblings are going to be the only kings and queens of Narnia?" I asked. He laughed and looked back at me and Peter.
"As Guardian of Narnia you will be in the Royal court." He looked back over his army. "And maybe something else you both don't know yet."
I was about to say something when a horn sounded "Susan!" Peter and I bolted towards the direction the horn sounded. Reaching where the girls were, up a tree as two wolfs jumped to get them. Peter and I rushed towards them with our swords drawn. Behind Peter all the way until Aslan told the others to stay and that this was Peter's battle. Meaning he was to do it alone. The wolf started to antagonize Peter saying that he couldn't do it, he couldn't kill him but he was going to kill Peter. The wolf lunged at him taking him down. I heard the girls scream as I felt my heart drop to my stomach. My legs buckled falling to the ground. The girls jumped down from the tree going over as they pushed the wolf off Peter. He sat up hugging them with concern and love for his sisters in his wide blue eyes.
Aslan let go of the other wolf and told the other's to follow it. It would lead them to Edmund. He told Peter to clean his sword and then knighted him as Sir Peter WolfsBane. Getting up and headed towards our tents leaving the siblings for some bonding. Feeling tears flow down my face then I heard my name being called.
"Bri! Bridget, what's wrong? Didn't you hear me calling?" Peter asked catching up. I tried not to have him see me. When he took my arm swinging me around facing him. "What's wrong? You're crying?"
"I don't know," I lied but he saw right through that lie.
"Come on tell me." His hands moved to mine as he stared at me. That was when I realized that I loved him.
"I was so worried about you." I cried more tears flowed. He pulled me into a tight embrace making me feel protected. Shaking my head placing my hand on his chest pushing him at arm's length. "You should be with your family." Turning around running off to be on my own. Sitting down by the same river that held all the excitement earlier. Placing my feet in the water staring down into my reflection losing time.
"What's wrong dear?" Mrs. Beaver asked gaining my attention. Looking at her and sighed. "Oh I know that sigh. You're in love."
"How'd you know?" Pulling my feet out of the water placing my knees to my chest and resting my head on them.
"It's easy to tell love." She patted my hands noticing how dark it was. We decided to head back to camp.
When we got to camp I heard Lucy call me as she ran up to me hugging me. "Bri we were so worried." She said making me look at her then at Susan. Who nodded giving me a smile.
"Peter has been looking for you. He's in his tent maybe you should go see him." Susan explained making me nod. Heading towards his tent I heard him speaking to Beaver.
"Why was Bri crying when I hugged her? Why did she run away from me?" he asked Beaver.
"Perhaps there is just more to your friendship?" Beaver said matter of fact. I went up to the door of the tent and cleared my throat.
"Um...Peter?" Calling out. Peter grabbed me into a hug.
"I think I will just leave you two alone." Beaver walked out of the tent.
"Bri why did you run from me?" he asked. I backed up to look at him.
"Because um...oh foo," I said as tears sprang to my eyes. "It's because I like you a lot."
Looking at me as he placed his hand to my face, wiped the tear away that ran down my cheek. "I like you too Bridget." Bending his head just a little kissing me gently. Pulling away just as quickly. "Sorry."
"Don't be, I'm not." Giving him a smile. He smiled hugging me again. We stood like this for a little bit. Then pulling away from him smiling. "Guess I should be getting back to my tent." He nodded as I went to the door, before I left we kissed again then said good night. Going back to my tent laying down as thoughts about Peter had me drifting off.
The next morning leaving my tent just as Lucy and Susan did. We went up to Peter who was looking at something on the hill. We saw what he was looking at. Edmund was finally back with his family.
"EDMUND!" Lucy yelled starting to go to him. But Peter stopped her. She looked at him with a question. Aslan stopped talking to him and they came our way.
"What's done is done, there is no need to speak about what has happened in the past," Aslan said. Then he walked away.
"Hello." Edmund said quietly. There was a bit of tension until Lucy hugged him then Susan. Smiling as we all looked at Peter whose eyes softened.
"You should go and get some sleep." He motioned with his head in the direction of his tent. "Oh and Ed? Try not to wonder off." He smiled and Ed smiled to and walked over to the tent.
I went back to my tent for my sword to get in a little bit of practice before breakfast. When I came out I saw Oreius training with Peter then a couple fawns put out some breakfast for us. Well so much for practice before eating. Going over sitting with the others as Edmund stuffed his face with food. I guess it's been a few days since he actually got a good meal here.
"They aren't going to run out of toast Ed." Lucy said making us all laugh.
"Make sure you pack some for the return trip," Peter said standing by a rock drinking.
"We're going home?" Susan asked questioningly.
"You are but I am staying."
"But we can't go they need us." Lucy said making us all nod.
"No it is too dangerous. You and Bri almost drowned and Edmund almost got killed." Peter started but Edmund interrupted him.
"That is why we need to stay. I have seen what the White Witch can do. And I have helped her do it. We have to fight." Edmund looked up at Peter. Getting to my feet going up to him taking his hand.
"Peter we will help these people be free of that woman forever." Smiling at him when Susan got up picking up her bow and quiver.
"Where are you going?" Peter asked.
"To get some practice in." She smiled as her and Lucy went off to practice. Edmund, Peter and I headed for the training grounds to practice our swordsmanship. As we practiced upon horses we heard Beaver yelling.
"PETER! BRIDGET! EDMUND!" Edmund's horse reared up and almost knocked him off his back.
"Woah horsey!" Edmund tried calming it down.
"My name is Philip," he said rather annoyed.
"Oh sorry." He apologized.
"Edmund the witch is here looking to take you away." Beaver explained as we all headed back to Aslan's tent.
